Picks from the Anthropologie Spring 2019 Anthro Day Weekend :: Effortlessly with Roxy
Take 20% off the Carnival Skirt (now $346) and other Anthropologie new arrivals this weekend.
Shop also: sweater | bag | earrings

I may be on an Anthropologie break these days (this recent post explains why) but I know this community loves to discuss Anthro, so let’s take a look at some picks from the Anthropologie Spring 2019 Anthro Day Weekend, shall we?

This weekend you can take 20% off your full-price Anthropologie purchase. You must have an Anthro loyalty account to receive the discount online — it will show up in your cart when you’re signed into your account. (Not an Anthro member? You can join for free here.)

As I look through the new arrivals, I see a lot of Anthropologie’s takes on Spring 2019 trends, which seems to be the direction their design style is moving in. That doesn’t excite me nearly as much as Anthropologie’s unique takes used to, but there are still some cute items to be found.

The Louisa Ruffled Top (now $71) is a cute top with lots of styling potential. I like the way Anthropologie styled it with the Wanderer Utility Pants (now $79). The Brenner Top (now $56) is another top with tons of potential. I love the vertical trail of buttons (best seen on the polka dot colorway) and how long the top is! The Batik Top (now $88) has a very pretty neckline.

Picks from the Anthropologie Spring 2019 Anthro Day Weekend :: Effortlessly with Roxy

Last Summer this leopard skirt from Réalisation was an Instagram sensation (Amazon has some decent knockoffs: 1/2/3). Anthropologie has come up with its own version of the skirt, the Bias Satin Midi Skirt (now $88). I’m not surprised that this skirt is selling out so fast as leopard is one of those trends with considerable staying power.

I like the look Anthro put together with its version of the skirt above, even if I don’t like this version of the skirt as much as the original.

Another trend with staying power is the moto jacket. You’ll find several options among my picks from the Anthropologie Spring 2019 Anthro Day Weekend, including the Camo Moto Jacket (now $120) and the Fontana Leather Jacket (now $560). The latter might be well worth the splurge with 20% off.

Picks from the Anthropologie Spring 2019 Anthro Day Weekend :: Effortlessly with Roxy
I saw this grey color of the Carissima Sheath Dress (now $207) last Fall and think it’s so pretty!

In the dress section one dress I enthusiastically recommend is the Carissima Sheath Dress (now $207). I own this dress in black and think the newer grey shade is quite lovely.

The Aranciata Wrap Dress (now $160) has a beautiful print and great color choices — and now I want a Pellegrino. The three-dimensional Daisy Lace Shift (now $128) and more streamlined Charleston Lace Mini Dress (now $144) hold potential, as does the casual Palais Swing Dress ($98).

Below you’ll find more of my picks from clothing to jewelry to shoes and bags. Are you partaking in these picks from the Anthropologie Spring 2019 Anthro Day Weekend?

Whether I like a retailer or not, I do take advantage of sales to get $$$ off (mostly off name brand items). If you cannot find them less expensive elsewhere, I highly recommend Mother The pocket Hustler Denim Overalls. I currently wear them with a shirt under but plan to wear just with a bandeau in the summer. Hope all is going well with your new position and wedding planning!

Cute. Would get hardly any wear here…lol. Hope all is well.

That's true Shari. I struggle a bit with whether to support a retailer that is either pissing me off so (Anthro) or possessing questionable ethics (not Anthro, but other retailers). Who knew shopping could get so complicated at times??

Life is complicated or so it seems. Anthro is sad,y no longer my go to. So I purchase little here and go to others. But sometimes I find a winner at Anthro.

I have no loyalty. Who ever can give me the item I want the least expensive is my choice. There are places I tend to like more or less but honestly I won't pay 25% more just because I like or dislike a retailer. I may not buy an item altogether due to questionable ethics but once I decide to buy, it is about the price really.

Indeed. Anthro is offering very little these days that I want though. That being said, I gladly purchase a $750 leather jacket that was marked down to $160 a few weeks ago (an 70 of it was covered with a gift card).

Good job anthro, you’ve create bargain/sale shoppers rather than people who are willing to pay full price for unique, high quality designs!

I bought the souvenir flats and LOVE them. Highly recommend, I feel very artsy in them.

On another note, I have purchased a number of smocked/gathered tops from American Eagle and have been very pleased with them. Most are under $15 and fit better than those I tried at over $100 (I got 8 for under $100.)

I totally agree with you about American Eagle! They are making some great bohemian blouses and dresses right now. And a lot of them are on par with Anthro quality lately. I also am obsessed with their jeans…been wearing them for over 20 years (and through many sizes ?). On the Anthro note, I’ve found more at Free People lately.

I did not buy any clothes on the promo weekend. Most of the clothes that were interesting to me are made from fabrics that I stay away from: viscose, nylon & polyester. I passed on the Marrakech moto jackets because of the fabric content – all polyester. Same with the leopard skirt. I just don't want to wear so much fake fabric. I don't like the Farm Rio and Faithful brands because of this as well. All viscose and polyester.

Living in South FL I definitely pay more attention to fabrics that breathe and are washable.

Since nothing is available in stores anymore, I purchased nearly $1500 worth, so I can try them on and pick a couple of items, if they fit well enough. I'm not keeping everything. I feel like I'll be banned from shopping online because of how much I return lately, but the stores don't have any dresses; all online. Also, I noticed the items hardly have any reviews. I posted a couple of negative ones and they were never posted.

It seems like it's just more of a hassle to order from anthro these days. The clothing items that look cute online, are poor quality in person or just fit in a weird manner. I ordered 3 things during this promo and will be returning them all. I thought I was going to keep a cute shirt by Dolan but after I tried it on and took it off to steam it, the stitching threads in the chest area ripped apart.

      March 30, 2019 / 9:18 am

I only shop in store for this reason. Many things feel and look different in real life, and even the same size of the same item fits differently. The SA must think I'm crazy for trying on 3 of the same size of the same item, but with the inconsistency I need to.

      • Daniela
        April 1, 2019 / 1:41 pm

The problem is that a lot of the items aren't available in stores; I like anthro dresses only and they tend to be online exclusives only or are just no where to be found in stores, so I'm forced to order online. The issue I have lately is that shipping takes forever and they claim items are on back order when they're clearly not. I was scolded for insisting the dress I wanted wasn't on back order even though the rep insisted it was. I know it's not on back order because my friend ordered it AFTER me and she got hers already. NOT ON BACK ORDER. He told me to listen to him because his info was more accurate than that on the site. I'm still waiting on some dresses to arrive and am pretty certain they'll look horrible on me (new reviews online is a clue sometimes…anytime i leave a negative review, it's not posted), so will prob return. I'm not sure where else to go, but I don't have time to spend on the phone trying to track down supervisors for correct information. I just want to know where they get their reps because they're all consistently awful, incompetent and rude beyond belief.

I just contacted Anthro about two faulty items. One rep just told me "we do not cover the cost of return shipping, especially when it comes to international shipping," and the other (via Twitter) told me "we will cover up to 20% of the return fee for the item." Both responses are unacceptable, but they also don't even agree with each other. It's really poor service.

I agree with Daniela below. I'm petite so the majority of clothing is online only, even in the stores that carry petites there is such little selection so 95% of my anthro purchases must be online. Its a pain to order multiple sizes due to inconsistent sizing and have quality all over the place.

        • Sherry
          April 3, 2019 / 10:49 am

I stopped ordering online awhile ago. Their online ordering is like gambling, you may get lucky and get what you ordered, undamaged, in a timely manner but most of the time you lose. If I can't get it in store it's not worth the hassle of ordering online.

          • Guest
            April 3, 2019 / 11:36 am

Right – but for those of us who are petite, we have to buy online. Anthropologie does not carry much so its really not fair to that demographic to basically be unable to buy anything from them unless its online.

            April 4, 2019 / 11:47 pm

I also just discovered that Anthro won't cover the cost of return postage for faulty items. I bought the Isabella Lace Skirt in two sizes, and on both the stitching was coming apart at the waistband, and they were covered with loose threads.

I'm in Australia, so in addition to the US$25 shipping fee, I'm out of pocket roughly the same amount to return them.

            April 5, 2019 / 10:49 am

I would escalate this, just keep bugging them. Absolutely no way they should not pay for the return.

            April 7, 2019 / 8:07 am

Thanks for the advice! I did email them again, but haven't heard back yet.

I've had a lot of customer service problems with Anthro in the past (despite being a polite, conflict-averse customer), and I honestly think they don't care much about losing overseas customers. We don't have access to in-store stock, even though it's reflected in stock levels online, so orders are often cancelled. Whenever I've paid for gift wrapping they've charged me but not included gift wrapping. They've often charged return shipping costs, even though as an Australian I have to pay for postage myself. And when they have occasional free shipping promotions for Australian customers, the promotion often doesn't apply, so you have to pay and then contact them for a partial refund. All this means that I'm contacting Anthro customer service several times for every purchase. It's very frustrating.

I agree with all the comments about things in person being poor quality but also sizing has become even more inconsistent. I have also noticed that several dresses that came out are no longer on the Anthro website. Within a few days they were removed, and it doesn't say sold out when you try to google, etc. I found this odd – one being the Marisol off the shoulder dress by Anthropologie brand. It was black with white embroidery and a lavender floral dress by Anthropologie brand that is also no longer on the site.

      April 1, 2019 / 1:43 pm

I noticed this, too. They'll be out. I'll add it to my cart and then POOF..gone. Also, I often see items on sale that were never sold in the store or online ever. I'll see them only when they're out of stock or close to it.

      • Shari
        April 8, 2019 / 6:26 am

There are tons of the Marisol dresses in the stores. They look well made actually.

They're selling a lot of VERY expensive stuff from other brands, and a couple of inexpensive things from their own brands. I used to be obsessed w/ Anthro because they had high quality stuff from their own brands that couldn't be found anywhere else and if they went on promo or sale, they were, while still expensive, worth the price.

    • Daniela
      April 1, 2019 / 1:44 pm

Maeve used to be my go to designer. Relatively inexpensive and fun dresses. I'm not sure what's happened because the dresses arent' what they used to be. Does anyone have a number where I can escalate my complaints?

        April 4, 2019 / 2:56 pm

I don't know the best way to let Anthro know our concerns, but Roxy might. Otherwise, this site should be enough proof that customers want changes.

This happened with a pair of sunglasses I ordered. The rude rep told me he would send the correct pair and color; he never did. I had to call again. They allegedly sent it to me. After a week, still didn't arrive. They told me I had to wait 10 business days or something like that. After the time period, I again contacted them. This time, customer service rep Latonia, told me that I'd have to actually wait 18 business days for the product to fail to get to me. I told her everyone told me it was 10 and she suddenly gave me a refund…or so I thought. Today, I realized that I still hadn't received a refund and this time I got Melissa, who told me that she would process a refund for me because apparently none had been requested yet. She requested a refund for me and said I know have to wait up to 72 hours for it. Keep in mind I ordered the sunglasses over a month ago. I also shop modcloth.com and get their stuff three days after ordering at MOST. Recent dress ordered from modcloth, i actually got the day after ordering. Modcloth clothes fit a lot better than Anthro dresses lately. I did not gain weight or change body-wise, but I'm finding out that some brands no longer fit me. The older dresses from the same brand fit me perfectly so it's def not an issue of workouts changing my body type. What gives? WHAT IN HECK IN GOING ON AT ANTHRO????

            Hi Daniela,
I called my local store and they were very sympathetic but couldn't help. They said to find a big store and call them to do a charge send and find out how much it is and then come into my local store and buy a gift certificate for that amount and then call the big store back and order it. So that's what I did.

I also called customer service and they processed my refund right away and said I have 30 days to return the dress they sent by mistake. But I tried it on and and I actually kinda like it so now I'm debating whether to keep it.

I emailed Anthro customer service when it happened and haven't heard a peep from them and it's been a week. So I'm going to email them again tomorrow.

Has anyone seen the Sailboat dress? A take on the sailboat skirt, that was actually made of good material. The dress cannot compare and looks like it came straight outta Ross' clearance section.

haha yes, I did try that one at the store because I had some time to kill and I remembered the original print, it actually looked better on than on the hangar though and it has pockets and runs TTS. I love all the old adorable prints but wish they would create more pieces with good old cotton and silk again. I have the original black on red telephone blouse and it's silk and it's stood the test of time and still looks adorable and timeless.

    Roxy,
You are very knowledgeable about anthropologie and I have a sizing question. I have searched for years for the Cartonnier Academy Blazer. Here is a link to the picture: https://i.pinimg.com/564x/bd/82/98/bd8298ebecf72b
I am usually a size 6 in blazers, but the chest measurement listed for this one is 16" across the front. I need 17" across chest measurement. I am so sad to think it might not fit. Do you know if this blazer ran small or if the measurement listed by the person selling could be wrong? Thanks.

Oh I love that one too but never got it. Did you look on Poshmark? It shows up every few months.
The other thing you can do is move the buttons over – you can usually get another inch on the bust that way, depending on where they are sewn.

    • April 7, 2019 / 9:54 pm

Hi Rachel! Oh yes I remember that blazer well. It's actually called the Alma Mater Blazer, and I reviewed it way back when here:
      https://effortlesslywithroxy.com/2010/09/reviews-

It fit true to size. I have a large chest and I don't remember it feeling tight across the chest. So I think you'd be fine!! (But of course, I can't guarantee it.) Hope this helps a bit!!

Roxy I been following your blog for years, and I sooo miss your Anthro reviews! ❤️

        • April 17, 2019 / 5:25 pm

Aww Sherry I'm sorry to let you down. I miss Anthro that I loved and felt passionate about! Between their crappy customer service and the letdowns of their recent designs, I'm just not feeling Anthro at all lately.
