The Anthropologie Birthday celebration brings 25% off :: Effortlessly with Roxy

Anthropologie is celebrating 26 years a bit early this weekend and we get the benefit! The Anthropologie Birthday celebration brings 25% off everything for Anthro members — all you need to do is sign into your Anthro account or create one to enjoy this sweet promotion. As an extra perk today only there is FREE SHIPPING on every order. Hooray!

It’s been a long time since Anthropologie had 25% off sitewide. I don’t know if this means the Fall collection is not doing as well as Anthro had hoped or if this was the plan all along. Either way, I’m delighted by this promotion!

So this weekend I’ll certainly be placing an order and stopping by the store to try on some of the items on my wishlist. I truly hope Anthropologie delivers! Here are some of the items I’m intrigued by right now. If you’d like more Anthro picks and discussion, I examined the October new arrivals recently.

The sole clothing item I’ve bought and loved at Anthro recently is the Matinee Sweater Dress ($168 + 25% off). I got the rose color in my usual size medium and it fits wonderfully! It’s a great length for chilly weather; it hugs my curves perfectly and the rose color is fantastic. Later today I’ll upload a look at it on me to my Shoppable Outfits page.

40% off at LOFT and other deals this weekend :: Effortlessly with Roxy

Anthropologie’s promotion is very competitive compared to some of their past deals, but they still have a lot of competition for my shopping attention this weekend! LOFT for example is offering 40% off your purchase with the code FRIENDS. Most sale is an extra 50% off.

Yes, LOFT does 40% off quite frequently. But their clothing has been so good that I find myself going back again and again! Each new release has brought more items that I want. Like sweaters! This year LOFT has a great mix of sweater silhouettes including several that are long and slimming. I am ordering a second color of the Cowl Neck Tunic Sweater (now $35) during this promotion. It’s so flattering on! The Lacy Pointelle Sweater (now $30) caught my eye on a recent store trip, and it too fits like a dream. (Though I did find the material less soft than I was expecting.)  I even found a cute long utility puffer vest to layer under denim jackets for Fall.

And oh my goodness we need to talk about LOFT’s Leggings in Faux Leather (now $30)! A midrise, beautiful set of leggings. If you like sheen on your leather (as I do) these are wonderful. I sized down in these to a medium tall — the large tall was very loose around my waist. I purchased both colors and I’m delighted with them. LOFT has a bunch of beautiful faux leather items, from jackets to skirts. Below, all my picks from LOFT’s latest. (Some prices are before the promotional discount.)

40% off at Express and other deals this weekend :: Effortlessly with Roxy

What’s another store that’s really been impressing me lately? Express. I can remember in high school when Express was one of the expensive brands I couldn’t afford to buy much at on my allowance and paycheck. Now that Express feels more affordable to me on an adult’s paycheck I drift back in there from time to time. Recently I’ve been super impressed with their assortment! And this weekend, Express is offering 40% off your purchase online only.

Leather is such a Winter staple in NYC and Express’s faux leather jackets are top notch. Their Minus the Leather collection has massive appeal! I absolutely love the Leather Quilted Moto Jacket (now $89). I have it one color already and am seriously considering a second. I also love their high-waisted Minus the Leather Pencil Skirt (now $31 in select colors or $36 in other colors).

Express is also taking on trendy jean cuts and flourishing. I’m delighted that instead of paying $350 for on-trend two-tone jeans, I can find them at Express for $48! They also have beautiful split-seam jeans (seen in the photo above) for $53. I find Express jeans to run a bit narrow through the thighs so I’m most often a 12 there. While I was very impressed when Madewell, J. Crew and the Gap brands started showing models of various sizes, the last place I expected to see that was at Express — yet they are doing just that! I can now see jeans on up to three differently sized models and I LOVE it. Brava, Express!!

Express will get its own post soon; for now, here are picks for this weekend’s 40% off online-only promo. (All prices are before the promotional discount.)

I'm still uninspired by the clothing assortment — have you noticed just now many sweaters there are, and how terrible most of them look? But, I ordered several items today from their home section. The Papetal by Jennifer Tran collection is some of the most beautiful bowls and plates I have ever seen, and surprisingly affordable (in line with Anthro's usual dinnerware prices).

That is fair KL_Eyes. I guess I can't help myself from wanting to find the good stuff, especially during promos. But you are right that the magic is still very much missing.

They have so. much. stuff that I agree some of it is good! But so hard to pick out gems in the mess. (You do a good job of it, but I have kinda the opposite body type from you 😉 — petite, no bust or waist definition to speak of — so my fit issues are different.)

I bought the Allison Floral Sweater Dress last month, reminds me of vintage Anthro. Also recently purchased a pair of lavender corduroy skinnies, which I'm happy enough with for the price but the waist is gapping a lot after 1 wash, even though I sized down.

        • October 19, 2018 / 5:04 pm

I hear you! The Allison Floral Sweater Dress is cute! Here's a link for anyone who wants to take a look: http://bit.ly/2NOa10h

The Valeria Floral Dress kind of reminds me of old Anthro…but remember 2010 or so, when everything was something you wanted/needed? Normally this time of year I have 3 or 4 Anthro party dresses on my to-buy list. This year? Notta.

The Allison Sweater Dress is very pretty but so so short and I am only 5'6…

Did you notice the Valeria Floral Dress only goes to a size 12? Pretty but so frustrated with such limited sizing

          • October 23, 2018 / 6:13 pm

Yeah unfortunately Anthropologie seems to be one of the few brands who didn't get the memo about body diversity.

I agree, KL, the sweaters are really, really horrible. I'm just wandering around the store and sighing. Back when I couldn't afford Anthro I wanted all the sweaters. I was just wearing the Charlie & Robin Gumshoe cardigan yesterday that I got on Ebay and it made me so happy. I love all its special little details.

That is such a classic (gumshoe cardigan)! Agree…they used to be able to take something functional and everyday, like a cardigan or a hoodie, and elevate it to something special with a few amazing details.

Yep, I find myself hardly even going into the store as much as I used to. I still check our their home collections and jewelry but have even been uninspired by their shoes lately too, not just the clothing. The SHOES, for crying out loud!! I've been purchasing classic Anthro pieces on Instagram and have found a TON that way. I did buy some beauty items at Anthro's sale, so at least that was useful.

I buy most of them on @the_mustard_closet. She has the photos and names of the clothing, measurements, etc and I just comment "sold" on the listings I want to purchase and send her my PayPal email address in a direct message and she sends me an invoice, then ships it to me. 🙂 I've never had any problems or issues.

Agreed, I felt exhausted browsing the sweater section the other night. Anthro's knits used to be so beautiful. I miss their special sweaters by Field Flower, Gro Abrahamsson, liamolly, etc.

Wow, that is a lot of sales! I’m going to have to go peek at Loft. Love your picks!

First,I just have to get this out – these herring earrings for $500 are cracking. me. up. https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/silver-herring

    Ok, all better now. 🙂

There are a few cute things at Anthro right now that I’ve either tried on or bought. I just got (and wore) this teal cord jacket. I wish it had cuter buttons and was lined, but I do like the fit (TTS to a little big – I’m between 6 and 8 and the small was perfect). It’s fitted and has nice puffing at the sleeves.I wore it over the yellow silk Karen Walked blouse from Madewell and my daughter said they looked great together. https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/cropped-cordur

I almost picked up this cord jacket too, but held off for now. The color is so rich. TTS. https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/marnie-corduro

I’m not impressed with the sweaters in general, but I do like this one. It’s sleek and comfortable. Yeah, it’s overpriced, and I wish it had long sleeves but I love the fit, and wish it came in more colors. 100% merino. https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/laval-tie-neck

My store had this bag and it’s really soft and lovely. If you are looking for a crossbody, I’d recommend this one: https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/benecio-crossb

That Johnny Was bag that I’ve been raving about is also for sale at Anthro in both colors: https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/marjan-velvet-

I am SO in love with this these crazy chie miharas, but they are way out of my range: https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/chie-mihara-na

and lastly, since Anthro is offering free shipping on all orders, I just got these archival print socks. The telephone blouse was one of my Anthro faves. https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/colloquial-tea

OMG those earrings. I do know that some fishermen pay big bucks for special lures…but we are not fishermen!

      October 19, 2018 / 5:40 pm

Those earrings are so funny, but they also look very heavy. The Chie's are so cute! The socks are cute too and even have some cotton in them.

I agree on the sweaters, but this year's Wendi Reed Field Flower Coats are pure wool again and feel soft. Quite tempted.

You look beautiful in that sweater dress, Roxy! The pink is now sold out :^( … On the topic of Anthro's current offerings, I keep seeing things that I like on product pages for other stuff, but they don't seem to be available yet. There's an orangey plaid zip jacket or coat I love paired with a $200 tuque (which…come on) and a pair of jeans with a sort of fringed side seam paired with the polar faux fur coat. They don't appear to be available yet. Don't think I missed them from before–they're definitely winter wear. So maybe that means things will look up soon??

    • October 19, 2018 / 5:05 pm

Thank you Soleil! And oh no that the rose is sold out. I think the grey is lovely too! I'm almost certain it will pop back. I agree that there are a lot of items that haven't made their debuts yet.

That sweater dress you got is such a great fit on you, and it looks like it combines with so much. That length can be hard to pull off when you're shorter, but on you it shows how long your legs are. And it fits the bust and waist (which is hard to find these days).

Thank you for the tip as I've been deleting the Anthro emails without opening. Since shipping is free, I got a petite popback on the pink ett:wa wide-wale corduroys. No idea what the actual color will look like as the online and catalog shots are completely different. I know the fabric is a soft cotton cord, and I love seeing non-cropped wide-legs that tend to be more flattering for me.

Good to see you back again!

    • October 20, 2018 / 11:15 am

Thank you Eina! And glad I could you the heads up about this weekend's promo. Hope you like the cords!!

I've had a lot of success with boots (only) lately: (I wear size 8 shoes – I normally size up for boots to accommodate for socks, calf is 14")

Silent D Kitten Heeled Riding Boots – Ordered size 39. Heel is a comfortable height. The pink color is a lovely dusty pink – not too dark, not too light. Slouchier with skirts and dresses, not as slouchy over leggings/slim pants.
Charles David Knee-High Boots – Ordered 8.5. I wanted a pair of gray suede boots, and this color is exactly what I wanted. The inside zipper helps to get them on, but they could have been pulled on. These are good for gals with larger calves, as I had plenty of room to spare. Heels are actually 3.5" at the highest point – a little high for me, but I like them so will keep them.
All Black Slouchy Knee-High Boots (brown) – Ordered 38 1/2, could have worked in a 38 – so they run a little big. Looks like they're sold out now, but worth it if you can get them! I thought the heel would be high, but they are very comfortable. Calf feels comfortable – not too snug, so slimmer pants/leggings can be tucked in. Color is a nice brown.

These successes made me brave enough to order a couple of pairs of booties.with the 25% discount this weekend.
I've used Afterpay a couple of times so far. It works out well, and is a better deal than using my credit card, since there's no interest. However, I haven't had to return anything yet – so I'm not sure how well that would go. if anyone has had that experience, I'd like to hear about it!

I ordered these boots Friday: https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/kiwi-encrusted
I'm a little concerned they reversed the height and the circumference though as they look skinny fitting on the model.

I'm looking for low heel well-padded boots I can wear all day with skirts and will fit my larger calves.

        October 21, 2018 / 9:46 pm

Let us know how they work out – I hope the calf circumference of those boots isn't 12"!! I am looking for the same, but still wear a pair about 7 or 8 years old from Anthro – they are made of a soft leather and have a laser print cut into them – the brand name is worn out, but they've held up to a lot of wear year after year! I was tempted by the Anthropologie Riding boots, but reviews are mixed.

      • October 22, 2018 / 5:05 pm

Yeah hmmm they do look really narrow on the model. Let us know when they arrive evb!!

          October 29, 2018 / 8:57 pm

Okay, I got the boots and they are not what I expected at all. First off they are not leather but imitation suede. The diameter of the calf is 14" and the height from the ankle to the top of the shaft is 15 1/2". But they are very stretchy and went over my 16"+ calves with a little difficulty. I haven't decided if they are too tight at the top or not.I wear a 9.5 and the 41 fit great.

They are sleek and sexy over my calves. Not worth full-price at all so I'm keeping them for a bit until I decide.

I purchased the Paulette pointelle poncho sweater today and it’s classic Anthro imo. Moth, soft, unique. A little short especially on my long torso but I tried buttoning different ways and it’s actually pretty versatile.
I’ll also be purchasing the whimsy midi skirt by Eva Franco. Flattering, cotton and lined. Love the print!

Where are the coats? It's basically November and there is not one decent winter wool coat available. I guess Anthro is only catering to people who live in Southern California and Florida.

Ha! Yes, it was low 80’s today and forecasted for 89 tomorrow. Cold from of high 70’s starting weekend. As a transplant from NJ, of one year, cracks me up. You would be surprised stuff in FL Anthro.

I've never liked Anthropologie's outerwear selection. If you live in a frigid climate, forget it. It's mainly boring faux-fur little jackets and leather jackets. I did buy the Beatrix Coat a few years ago – the light blue with the fur collar and love it. But they haven't made any decent coats since then.
