Anthropologie June 2018 Summer Tag Sale discussion thread :: Effortlessly with Roxy

It’s that time — the Anthropologie 2018 Summer Tag Sale is about to begin! Use this thread for open discussion about all things Anthropologie.

There are a bunch of Anthropologie dresses I’d try if they make the 2018 Summer Tag Sale. Before I get to those, I want to mention that the Ambrosina Lace Dress ($264, above) is already in my closet and lovely beyond words. I didn’t realize Anthro stocked it — I got mine at Shopbop and it’s also available via Bloomingdales. One thing to note: on Anthro’s product shot the skirt underlayer looks so much longer than it is in real life. Why do they do this??? In reality the slip just barely skims the tops of my knees. I wear a Free People slip underneath it.

With tons of events yet to come this Summer, Anthropologie could have a shot at fitting the bill. I’ll be going to my cousin’s wedding the week of July 4th and would love to wear the Josie Tiered Maxi Dress ($178). From the wedding we’ll be headed to a gala with my BFF and her husband, and this dress could possibly pull double duty. The Embroidered Slip Dress ($178) has been on my radar for awhile and I have a few events later on this Summer that it would be perfect for, including a Hamptons-based product preview party.

I’ve already been to two garden parties this Spring (think big hats!) and I wore Anthr…Old Navy.  Anthropologie is cutting most of their dresses way too tight through the bust for me this year. Still, I wouldn’t be against giving more of their dresses a try on sale.

Here are some of my Anthropologie dress picks I’m hoping to see make the 2018 Summer Tag Sale:

Anthropologie June 2018 Summer Tag Sale discussion thread :: Effortlessly with Roxy

In Anthropologie’s 2018 Summer Tag Sale, I’m expecting tons of cuts based on the sheer number of products they have on their site right now. Eight pages of dresses! Ten pages of tops. No one could ever need this much assortment; it’s overwhelming.

Expect to see markdowns Thursday with extra % off sale coming later. This will be the last Tag Sale under the old return policy (more on that in an upcoming post); I’ve been told purchases before July 9th will be grandfathered in.

The rest of my Tag Sale picks include cute items perfect for Spring and Summer, and plenty of stuff I haven’t tried on yet but would like to. (Things often come out of hiding from backstock to sale racks I’ve found.) From silk camis to zebra rompers and high rise shorts, my closet might have an extra dose of fun in it once this sale officially kicks off.

What are you hoping to see in the Tag Sale markdowns?

I will look and see if anything comes up but actually making a return today of stuff I thought I would wear but have not yet (recent purchases – not beyond 6 months). I think some of their items are turning the corner but still really buying more at other places (Madewell and Zara have been killing it). Hoping they will have some cute things on sale and for fall.

On another note, how does the ambrosia lace dress run? I have an event this summer I need a dress for and this looks cute (and anthropologie carries petites which I sometimes go with).

    • June 21, 2018 / 8:19 am

It runs very small through the chest, so I went with the large. It's actually pretty roomy in the hips!

From what I understand their new policies include changes to the way they do price adjustments. PA's will only be made on items that go from full-price to markdown. So if you buy something on sale and two days later there's an extra % off sale, you won't get a PA. Do we know if that's in effect now, or will that roll out 7/9 with the rest of the changes?

    Thanks!

    • June 21, 2018 / 8:48 am

Hopefully an anonymous employee can chime in here, but my understanding is that the new PA policy does not go into effect til July 9th.

      • Alauren
        June 21, 2018 / 9:04 am

I wonder if it only applies to purchases made on or after July 9th? I’m actually surprised by the change in policy. Less about the PA but the return is going from no time limit to…60 days? Even ikea gives me a year.

        • kelly
          June 21, 2018 / 9:39 am

I think you can still make returns after 60 days, but instead of getting your money back you will get a store credit. Which isn't great, obviously, but I do not understand them to refuse to accept returns altogether after 60 days.

          • Anthropolitan
            June 21, 2018 / 12:33 pm

The new policy is very similar to the return policy at Free People. I wonder if they are just going to make all the return policies the same across all their brands. I had always thought it was weird to have such different policies. Until now, Anthro has always had an extremely generous one.

          • klj1
            June 24, 2018 / 12:00 pm

One of the SA's at my store said there are STILL so many people that try and return things that are tattered or half empty lotion bottles, etc. I would think you could easily weed those people out and say no…vs. the people who legit have a return. I mean, there are always going to be people that try and push the rules.

    • kelly
      June 21, 2018 / 9:37 am

I'm confused about the "new" PA policy because from what I have heard, it doesn't sound like it's actually new; rather it sounds like they're going to start enforcing the PA policy that's been in place (at least on paper) but everybody has been ignoring.

I thought the PA policy – as written – was always that PAs only apply to permanent markdowns (like from full price to 1st cut, or from 1st cut to 2nd cut) and are not supposed to be given for temporary promos (like if you buy something full price today and then there's an Anthro Day tomorrow, or if you buy something at 1st cut today and then there's an extra % off sale tomorrow).

I thought that was already the rule, just that nobody enforced it.

      • June 21, 2018 / 9:57 am

I believe it is changing in that you can only get a PA from full price to markdown, but not from on sale to 2nd/3rd/etc cuts. You are write that promotions were always excluded from PAs as the policy is written…however Anthro seems to have quickly forgotten how badly their results were hurt when they tried enforcing the policy more strictly!

        • Lori
          June 21, 2018 / 11:13 am

I think this will hurt them in the end. I was recently denied a PA, though 2 SA said I was eligible, but financial dept. continually denied it. What upset me was not that I couldn't get a PA, but that 2 SA said it was fine and it never went through, as it was 15 days after purchase. I completely get enforcing the rules, but they will have to make sure are all on board, because the three different answers and two weeks of trying to get $20 back has turned me off. Top still had tags so I could have easily returned but did not. I imagine a lot of returns and repurchasing.
Personally, I'm fine with 60 (though would prefer 90) day returns, but I will really miss PA on sale.
J Crew that used to never give PA on sale, now are terrific about giving PA for sale and promos within 7 days. Their SA are great about this.

          • June 21, 2018 / 1:19 pm

I agree Lori. I can understand wanting to revise the return policy because I see people taking advantage of it all the time. Heck, I came across an Anthro item I'd bought three years ago, tags still on it, unworn, and I returned it. I don't usually do that but if you told me I was abusing the policy myself I could not disagree with you. I doubt Anthro put the item out on the rack to sell it after I returned it.

That said I believe they are going way too fair into unnecessarily strict territory, which is only going to piss customers off. There's a balance here and I don't think Anthropologie has found it.

          • kelly
            June 21, 2018 / 1:32 pm

Yes, the inconsistent application of policies is super frustrating. I don't mind rules, but they need to be uniformly followed across the board. It's really annoying to – for example – be denied a PA because it's a temporary promo, and then hear that somebody else spoke to a different SA and got a different result.

Last year or the year before, I bought a full-price jacket and then a few days later (within my PA period), there was a "select jackets $99" promo. I got a hard-ass SA who denied the PA on the grounds that PAs don't apply to temporary promos… which would have been fine – that is the written policy – except then I came here and read about others getting PAs no problem. I was so annoyed that I returned the jacket. And did not rebuy.

There will probably be a lot more return/rebuys with the new policy but that's also supposedly one of the things that can get your account "flagged" if gaming the system is done excessively.

          • June 21, 2018 / 1:37 pm

Agree kelly! Also, this is a rant for a different post, but I think the software companies are investing in to 'flag' potentially abusive customers is AWFUL. The algorithms are HORRIFIC and do not come close to accurately tracking customer behavior, especially not loyal customer behavior. I'm no longer consulting for retailers the way I was two years ago, but I've kept two major retailers as clients and one of them is on a huge apology campaign right now because one of the market-leading customer tracking software tools screwed over the retailer's customer loyalty.

Awful awful awful. I can't believe retailers pay money for this crap.

          • kelly
            June 22, 2018 / 12:06 pm

I know you can't get into the details of how the algorithms work, but I'd love to hear more about this issue; this kind of "behind the scenes" stuff fascinates me.

Personally, I think return-rebuy IS abusive. Or at least it can be. I know somebody who will buy at full price, start wearing the item, and then when it gets marked down she will but another one and return it using the receipt from the first item. I think that's super shady and will serve her right if she gets banned.

I know if I don't like company's return/PA policy, I will take my money elsewhere rather than keep shopping there and trying to cheat the system.

I ordered the Gemma Eyelet Camisole (meant to order that when it was 20% off, so happy to get it for +/- 33% off, some Paige jeans (even without the extra % the markdown is a good deal), and the Kalma Ruffled top. I have one other item I want, but it’s honestly a “backup,” and I’d like to wait and see if I can hold out for an extra %.

None of these markdowns excite me much. There are several things I like right now, but all are too new to be part of the tag sale.

    • June 21, 2018 / 11:26 am

I can understand that. Even on my window shopping days lately I've mostly been skipping Anthropologie. I'm just not very excited about much, and beyond annoyed that they have these HUGE spaces in their NYC stores and yet so much stuff is online only. I'm over it!

        June 22, 2018 / 1:34 pm

Roxy, it is shocking to me that the last SIX times I have walked through Anthropologie, I have walked out with nothing. It used to be that I had to hold myself back from buying. And strangely enough, it was the SAs that encouraged me to buy the iffy items, saying: oh, you can always return it, we have an open return policy. 🙂

Yes Nam! Did you do any shopping during Sundance's latest promo? I've been working very long hours lately after the time I took off to help my Mom, so I didn't have energy to post about it, but I was certainly thinking of you!

And a royal blue blouse with cream crochet sleeves

          June 21, 2018 / 5:13 pm

Okay that top is hands down gorgeous Nam. Sundance always has such a nice selection of pretty tops and dresses. If they could lower their shipping, I'd probably order a lot more.

As for JW I just had to buy the Victoria Cupra Blouse in the Young Wheat color and oh my goodness it is insanely beautiful in person, it's probably the prettiest top I own right now. The embroidery is just wow. I don't usually like to spend that much on a top but every once in a great while I don't mind treating myself to something special.

I've found some good gems from JW on eBay at good prices as well, sometimes you can also talk the seller into a deal if they're willing, it never hurts to ask especially if something's been sitting there for a bit;)

            June 21, 2018 / 7:43 pm

Thanks, Nam and Jess. The only problem with getting it on Ebay is that Johnny Was fits me weird, and if I can't return something if it doesn't fit then I've wasted money. One of my local boutiques used to carry it, and I've tried talking them in to stocking it again. I wish a store like Nordys carried it.

          • Jess
            June 21, 2018 / 9:17 pm

That's true, it helps to be able to try things on and it would be great if a store like Nordstom's would also carry it. We have a huge JW store behind the big Anthro at the Stanford Mall and it's got everything in there, they have a pretty good sales rack I like to check out every once in a while when I visit there.

            June 22, 2018 / 3:33 pm

I would looooove to have a JW store. It's just not got a big East Coast following, though. That's what my boutique SM told me when I asked if they would carry it again. Maybe now that Boho has gotten big again they will reconsider. Free People is pretty popular!

I went to the store and was so bummed. Only bought a pair of embroidered Pilcro shorts ?

I did love dress and tops from payal pratap ( she is an Indian designer) and Embroidered Maeve dresses. ??

Waiting for them to go on sale

        • Jess
          June 21, 2018 / 5:20 pm

I like Pilcro jeans because they always seem to fit without having to go up and down in sizes, they always seem to fit me in my normal size each time except maybe one time. I just bought the Sag Harbor dress in the yellow colorway and I'm still waiting for it to arrive, that one seemed to really sell out fast so I'm hoping it'll fit right.

I will! I've had my eye on it since it first appeared but couldn't decide on the color lol so hopefully the yellow will look good. I wish it came in an emerald green or wine color too:)

            June 24, 2018 / 7:27 pm

Okay the Sag Harbor dress showed up and it's literally like the perfect Summer dress. I hope they order more sizes to come in again for people who were late to the dress like I was. I ordered it in a size 6 Petite and it's just so pretty on. I highly recommend it plus it's cotton. It reminds me of classic Anthro dresses at it's pinnacle.

Any chance you could comment on length? I am 5'2 and based on the measurements listed, I thought a petite would be too short; since you ordered petite, did you think that worked well – was it like a midi dress? Thank you so much!!!

          • Jess
            June 28, 2018 / 2:18 am

Sure, I'm about 5'4" and the Petite size hit about mid shin/calf for me so it's a nice length and it looks just like the length in the pictures on the models. I don't feel like it's too short in any way and I love that it's cotton! I tried on a Regular also and the length was longer but not enough to return but I wanted a different color to match a pair of shoes I have so I went with the Petite that was available.

I keep buying scarves from JW, even though I don't really wear scarves these days… But I can't resist the gorgeous prints. Sadly I am sized out of much of their clothing, since their XS tends to run big and I'm between XXS and XS at Anthro.

Nicely done Stefanie! I still have Anthro gift cards from Christmas/Hanukkah, we'll see what gets used in this sale. 🙂

I actually ordered a few things and am happy to finally have a sale at Anthro. It has been a while since anything tempting went on sale.

I actually really like the Farm Rio Tiled Slip Dress and Malta Tie waist dress. The Farm Rio dress is not embroidered and was overpriced but a flattering comfortable dress on sale. I purchased the Malta Tie waist dress on 20% promo and don't regret it. I have packed it and worn it on a number of business trips. It is sweatshirt like material but looks dressy enough to wear in a business setting (especially with a jacket).

I love all the Farm Rio prints and shapes but not necessarily the material they use considering the prices. I say though that if something looks flattering and enhances your figure, go for it. I bought a couple in the past and they really stand out due to the gorgeous prints.

There's really nothing exciting for me on sale today but I did recently purchase a pair of Etienne Aigner Desire Wedges and they are a half size too small in case anyone is interested in them. I'm hoping the next size up I purchased will fit because I don't want to return them, they are just too adorable on. I also purchased the Pilcro High-rise Crop Flare Jeans in my regular size in 27 and they are a perfect fit and are so darn cute on, I just love them.

You're welcome! Maeve came out with a nice form fitting dress recently, the Leslie Midi dress and the print is so pretty. I bought that one in a Medium Petite and it's a perfect fit. I've seen Payal Pratap before and yes her designs are nice. I have to get myself to the store sometime, the last time I was there at the big store I went and had lunch but didn't have time to shop around:)

I think the banner 1000’s of new fresh cuts is a little misleading…?
There’s maybe a few hundred and the rest is all old sale stuff. I’m a little disappointed and there really wasn’t much that thrilled me. My local store tag sale section was literally 2 racks. It didn’t even take up the sale room.

Did anyone ever determine the official low down on shoe returns? Also, Anthro not giving PA's to people who purchased something a couple days prior and then it goes on a promo, will create so much ill will. Also, expect more than EVER for people NOT to pay full price if this is the case. It is not worth the risk and bad feelings created. I always feel terrible when I buy something, haven't even worn it, and see it for less money. The PA's were a safety net. I don't think Anthro should make themselves less customer service friendly.

    • Anthronana
      June 22, 2018 / 11:13 am

Shoe returns are not accepted in stores starting July 9th. I was told when I was returning a pair of shoes last week.

        June 22, 2018 / 3:30 pm

        What??? NOOOO!!!

I get sooo many shoes at Anthro at a good price in the sale room. Which means I understand why they are doing this, but still disappointing.

Also, this means I probably won't buy shoes from them again. I really buy very few things that have to be returned by mail. 🙁

          June 28, 2018 / 11:56 am

Ugh. My store does not carries shoes so I've always bought shoes online and as usual most of the time need to get two sizes. Not being able to return to store will probably stop me from buying their shoes then.

    • kelly
      June 22, 2018 / 11:56 am

I pretty much only shop online when I know I can return things to a physical store (Boden being the exception, and even there I shop way less than I would if I didn't have to mail in a return). Shoes are especially hard to buy without trying on. I will never order shoes from Anthro again if they won't accept returns in-store.

I hope more people will "vote with their wallet" on some of these customer unfriendly policy changes.

My local store no longer accepts returns of home items. They seem to categorize home as the same thing as furniture. Since they dont carry furniture at that location they wont accept home returns. I was turned away when I brought in curtain rods that didnt work out.

I am scratching my head. So they are changing their return policy, won't allow returns of shoes or home items, their clothes (more than ever) made with mostly man-made fabrics, they are having fewer and worse sales and the styles are more boring than ever. Do they really think that these strategies will work? Good luck to them. I have other places that I can and will shop. Seriously, there is very little that makes them special anymore.

Has anyone else noticed the trend for regular sized models? Madewell has beautiful size 8 model and it looks like Anthropologie has featured a young women with real curves and a real tummy. I love it. We can't all be size 2.

    • June 28, 2018 / 11:51 am

I meant to comment on this days ago Amy, but yes I did notice and I think it's WONDERFUL. I'm certainly not against size 2 models, I just want to see a wide V-A-R-I-E-T-Y. Let's see some size 12 models, some size 20 models, some size 2 models and some size 8 models! Tall, short, skin of all colors. It really is not that hard — these people already exist. Yet the way agencies and retailers go about it you'd think diversity is so hard to find. I'll greatly appreciate any small step forward like this. 🙂

I did purchase some sale things ??
For some reason it took forever for the new things to actually show up on the app and my internet version. I went hunting off my wishlists and saw things had been marked down.

This is OT but Anthro-ish. I have lots of Anthro pieces from years back that I want to sell. I posted some of them on ebay, but ebay is kind of dead. Is there any online places that you sell/have sold Anthro pieces for fair prices that you can recommend? Thanks!

        • June 23, 2018 / 6:31 am

Hi Mary. If you decide to make a FB account the Effortless Anthropologie Trade Market is still going strong!
          https://m.facebook.com/groups/153536198114140?ref

Also, I migrated from eBay over to Poshmark about a year ago after several negative selling experiences on eBay. So that’s another option. On Poshmark people often try to lowball, but I’ve still had success holding firm to my prices. It just takes longer for things to sell.

I am not an Anthro shopper anymore. I browse online but rarely and I almost never go to the stores anymore. But I still feel disappointed with the changes especially the PAs. I know I always feel bitter when I buy something at full price and then see there is a promo. So I was always appreciative to get PAs. I could see why shoppers would only visit stores when there is a promo happening.
The other disappointment is the return getting down to 60 days. My favorite season to shop at Anthro was fall and by the time it gets cold where I live definitely more than 2 months have elapsed.
I am also really curious if they will offer free shipping, no minimum. I justified them not giving it because of the high cost of unlimited returns. But now that they will not have this excuse anymore, they will be just greedy if they don’t offer it.

I understand anthro has to change its policy for whatever reason especially when there are people taking advantage but they should beware— They have lost what made them special to begin with. I was in Target earlier and I thought how they are knocking off Anthropologie better then Anthro themselves! To boot- the quality is about the same! Between A New Day- Universal Thread & WhoWhatWear, they nailed it.

ps. I wonder if the extra percentage sale cycle at anthro will mirror Free People.

Hey, Anthro just posted their new return policy: https://www.anthropologie.com/help/returns-exchan

Seems like a lot of potential for confusion – what is "select home decor"? Looks like they'll do one-time price adjustments within 14 days so that's not different then now.

    Bummer about shoes though!

    • kelly
      June 26, 2018 / 8:16 am

It says you can get a one-time PA on full price purchases, which seems to confirm the discussion above that they will no longer allow PAs on sale items that get a 2nd cut or a temporary % off sale promo.

      • Denise_S
        June 26, 2018 / 10:29 am

Which really, really stinks. And it isn't clear when the clock starts for online purchases. It is 14 days from shipment date now, but there is no reference to that, only "purchase date."

        • lulu
          June 26, 2018 / 10:33 am

And even Free People will make those sorts of PAs within 14 days of purchase. Anthro will no longer be getting my money or, if so, precious little.

    • Anthrogirl14

I have never seen Anthro this disorganized before. I got notification about one item being shipped from my order only to find it is another item from the same order that was delivered. This happened to both orders that I placed after the tag sale started. Has anyone experienced this this summer?

    • Jillian
      June 28, 2018 / 11:45 am

I’ve been shipped the wrong item twice now. And the item wasn’t even close to what I ordered ?
      I’ve received damaged merchandise
And I’ve been given the wrong shipping info a bunch of times.
The sku numbers on online orders also haven’t been matching in the store so they try to tell you it’s not there. But the picture and item name are the same. You have to point this out or they won’t do the return ?

OFF TOPIC: But do popbacks still exist from time to time Roxy? Like older ones from 2015 and below…I'm curious to know if they can still be accessed and HOW? Has anyone found much older 9.95 popbacks?

    • kelly
      June 26, 2018 / 12:51 pm

I think at some point within the last couple of years, they've stopped putting those old (like 3+ years old) items back into circulation, so they never appear as popbacks.

    • June 26, 2018 / 9:48 pm

I agree with kelly. The only times I've seen older popbacks come back lately has been ghost inventory — not real.

  29. Anthropolitan
    June 26, 2018 / 11:24 am

Also. Free People has had some negative policy changes. it seems that now every time they have an extra % off sale, it's final sale. They are also having a 50% off select swimsuit sale and that is final sale as well. This is terrible, because sooo much of their stuff is online only, and even on sale it's expensive. I passed on a popback this morning because it was final sale. I was actually willing to pay more for something as long as I have the opportunity to return it. I never shop anything final sale unless I've tried in on before and I know it will fit, or unless it was super, super cheap.

    • evb

Are we thinking additional percentage off this weekend? I’m waiting to pick up a bunch of in store pick ups to see if they go on sale further…

    • June 26, 2018 / 9:47 pm

I'm thinking no, it will happen next week to be closer to beyond the 14 day PA period and closer to the July 4th holiday here in the USA. However, this is the kind of guess I'm happy to be wrong about. 🙂

        June 26, 2018 / 10:18 pm

I think that you are right Roxy. Good luck to them though because the tag sale stuff in my local Anthro just seems to be hanging around like a bad smell. I find the longer stuff lingers, the less interested people are in buying anything.

    • Sarah
      July 9, 2018 / 8:58 am

Yes, Val, but that is exactly what the sale room is loaded up with – wellness and beauty items. I hope Anthropologie notices this and adjusts their buying to reflect the lack of interest there and focuses more on clothing, shoes and home.

Wow! That's really interesting. I wonder how/if she'll incorporate Anthro's aesthetic into J Crew. I like J Crew as I like preppy but it gets boring pretty fast. IF she brings back the good quality fabrics though, count me in!

    • Tanda
      June 27, 2018 / 1:25 pm

I'm wondering how long production cycle is at Jcrew. Can we hope to see her influence by Christmas time? Or it has to be Summer 2019 ?

      • June 27, 2018 / 3:09 pm

No they've already designed and sourced Christmas, so Spring 2019 is the earliest you'll see her input.

    • June 27, 2018 / 3:08 pm

Great stuff Tanda! I somehow knew before my friends who WORK at J.Crew knew, lol! I am excited although cautiously — J. Crew is mired in a terrible, nearly insurmountable amount of debt right now. In just two years they have a huge interest payment due related to capital they raised to re-privatize. Honestly they might be on their death march right now which is very sad. I hope they can pull themselves out of it. Madewell continues to outperform, but it's not enough to help.

      J. Crew's current CEO is formerly of West Elm, and most recently Ms. Uurasjarvi was heading up West Elm's bespoke design line. I'm excited to see what she'll do at J.Crew!

      • Anthropolitan
        June 27, 2018 / 4:03 pm

If J Crew goes under will Madewell too?

J Crew really isn't my aesthetic, but if they infused a little vintage Anthro and Leifsdottir into the mix I'd be all over that.

        • June 27, 2018 / 4:07 pm

No Madewell would likely be sold (likely) or spun off as its own entity (less likely but still possible).

      June 27, 2018 / 5:03 pm

It's REALLY strange that in my opinion, J. Crew and Anthro have both been suffering from a decline in creativity and overall quality. Though they are distinct brands, they've both shown a lack of pretty silhouettes and inspiring prints/colors of late. J. Crew could almost in a sense "combine with old Anthro," it would be incredible.

      • Trixxie
        June 27, 2018 / 9:51 pm

YES, a thousand times!! I used to split 99.9 of my wardrobe between JCrew and Anthro, now I’m lucky if I buy 20% from both combined. It astounds me how my 2 favorite (and formerly successful) stores could have lost their way so badly.

I just got a 20% off survey code. The survey had to do with a return I just made. They asked some very interesting questions, such as do you normally purchase multiple items with the intent of returning some of them.

    • Christy

I got the same thing and found it odd.

      • Anthropolitan
        June 27, 2018 / 6:46 pm

I think they have a phenomenal amount of returns and are trying to figure out why. I also think the 20% is an olive branch offering because they know their new return policy is going to peeve a lot of people (and they would be right). I hope this doesn't result in even more severe return policies. I do return about 90% of what I buy online (that I have not tried on in store first). I did say that the only thing they could do to prevent my returning things would be to have them in store to try on. Totally stating the obvious.

        • Guest
          June 27, 2018 / 7:52 pm

Completely agree as I return 90% of items as well I’m a petite and order primarily online since most stores don’t carry petites and I feel at some point this will be held against me; causing me to shop at anthro less.

          • evb
            June 27, 2018 / 11:00 pm

I just filled out a survey. I return things for a million reasons and I tried to give them all of the reasons. Anthropolitan, I'm glad I'm not the only one who returns so many things.I feel like they don't know what their brand is anymore and they throw all these things at us and then get mad that we return them.

I mean there are SO MANY peasant blouses and wide-legged striped pants online right now that I go to the store and can't tell if the one in the store is the one I wanted to try on or not.

            June 28, 2018 / 7:33 am

Sometimes if there is something I want, I order multiple sizes to make sure I have a shot at getting one that fits. That is what happens when something is online only. Also, they are so slow in their exchanges (and half the time don't do them anyway) it is the only way to secure an item you really want.

I wish I could like your comment 20 times. I am bored with the store because there IS NOTHING IN THE STORE except clothing that looks like it came from the Gap. And nothing wrong with the Gap, but I don't shop at Anthro for basic clothing. Their sale room is a disgrace; full of WTF clothing that I would never even try on. I wish they would read this and put more clothing choices in the stores. There are FOUR stores within 20 minutes of my house and they are all pretty boring. The housewares section has not changed since January. A beauty section that no one ever shops. And now the bedding is being removed as well. I am at a loss and shaking my head. There is a new Anthro & Co opening near me in DC this week, and that is my last everloving hope that I will discover the Anthro of even 4 years ago.

Wait a minute? Bedding is being removed? I was up in the Woodmere OH store and saw their bedding was 50% off but I thought that was just for that store?

Had to laugh at your beauty section comment – it is a big waste of space! I do like a lot of their beauty products but maybe they aren't displayed in a useful fashion or something.

Bedding is being removed from the stores and will only be available online – Nordstrom will now be carrying their bedding. 🙁 p.s. instore bedding was 60% off in my local store!!

          • Lou
            July 11, 2018 / 11:34 am

EVB, I really have no real idea of what they are thinking or doing. I do notice that many clothing chains are getting into product. Everybody seems to think that "wellness" is the new big thing. What is true though, is that I go to Anthro and Madewell and JCrew for clothing, not product. I may pick up a small product at the cash register as an afterthought, but I would not go to these places for cosmetics.

It sort of looks to me like Anthro wants to be a department store of their own brand. It seems like they have phased out many unique brands and saturated the stores with the Anthro brand of boring chinos and tee shirts like a Gap. I don't understand their print concept either. None of the prints grab me at all and specifically I think the 52 Conversations thing is going to be a flop.

I hate to be full of negativity, but I have walked out of the store with nothing the last 8 times I have visited to bring in online returns. I still have hope that it will return to its original amazingness, but I don't know. Even the sales staff doesn't wear Anthro anymore.

    • Barbara
      June 27, 2018 / 5:48 pm

I won’t get it because Anthro can never pull their heads out of their a—es to figure out why I never get promotional emails from them. Tried a million times to get back on the list. I disappeared one day for some reason as did others I know. No one has ever been able to fix it. I get all other shipping and order details emails from them no problem. Figure it out!

      June 28, 2018 / 11:34 am

I've gotten this survey in the past.

In addition to fit issues with online exclusives and having to guess on sizing, my biggest issue is that items aren't represented accurately on the web site. Once I ordered a "silk" dress that wasn't silk at all; it was 100% viscose and I returned it because it was more than I wanted to pay for crappy fabric. Other times there are differences between the item photographed and the item actually sent for production. Or the model will be posed awkwardly to obscure the actual shape of the dress or the hemline, etc. Bring back the dress forms!

Agree with what you said and I also said the same! …and one of my biggest pet peeves is the care instructions and not what they should be/or correct.

        • kelly
          June 28, 2018 / 12:01 pm

YES. I always look at the care instructions because I'm not buying/keeping casual clothes that have to be dry cleaned. I will dry clean work suits and special occasion items, but casual clothing I want to be able to throw it in the washer/dryer.

Does anyone know if Anthro ever came out with a June catalog? I never saw one and was just wondering if they did or not.

    • June 28, 2018 / 8:28 am

Hmm I have been getting the catalogues in the mail but can't say I remember a June one. Then again to be honest I've hardly even looked at them — they've been so uninspiring for a few years now.

    • Stefanie
      June 28, 2018 / 8:47 am

I saw a summer home one on the counters in a store yesterday that I never received.

        June 28, 2018 / 3:09 pm

Thanks, yes I got the Summer home catalog and the other months fashion catalogs just nothing for fashion at all for June. They really need to step it up otherwise there's nothing inspiring to want to buy. They used to showcase a whole dreamy lifestyle that made the customer want to emulate the same and I'm sure it increased their sales but oh well.

        • Lou
          July 11, 2018 / 11:24 am

I miss those old catalogues! I used to just swoon over them and plan what I was going to get based on them plus my store visits and try ons. I am glad I saved my old ones; I was just looking at a summer 2012 this morning. Brings back good memories.

      June 28, 2018 / 10:27 am

If i purchase now, what are the chances it'll be extra 40% off within the price adjustment time? I am considering an item and its quite pricey but will bite the bullet if there's a chance it'll be extra 40% off soon.

      Thanks!

      • June 28, 2018 / 10:45 am

It's hard to say, I have to imagine Anthro is planning SOMETHING for the July 4th holiday but I don't know what. Also keep in mind that once the new returns policy kicks on July 6th you'll no longer be able to get PAs when the extra % off deepens.

        • Fanny
          June 28, 2018 / 11:21 am

Thank you for the reminder! Totally missed the line about no more PA when there is extra %, which is a bummer.

      • kelly
        June 28, 2018 / 11:43 am

I'm guessing it will be a full-price promo for July 4th and that they won't drop to 40% off sale until after the July 9 changes to the PA policy take effect.

    • Alanna
      June 28, 2018 / 10:42 am

Do you think it’ll go up to 40% at some point?

      • Jillian
        June 28, 2018 / 11:55 am

Last year they did 25% then 2 days later 30% and then a few days later it was 40%.
The store associates were so sick of price adjustments so I bet they don’t do that again.
Last year’s tag sale was so much better. This one is for the stuff they just want to get rid of and it’s still not moving.

        • kelly
          June 28, 2018 / 12:09 pm

These kinds of revolving-door pricing games are going to have to stop once the policy changes go into effect, because it's just creating extra opportunities to piss off customers.

If they go back to the old system of a fairly predictable sale cycle, followed by 2nd and 3rd cuts on items that don't sell – with an extra % off sale only once or twice a year – it won't be as much of an issue.

          • Anthropolitan
            June 28, 2018 / 1:53 pm

I honestly preferred the old sale cycle. At least I knew that I wouldn't buy something and have the price change 2 days later. I'm not really fond of price adjustments – I just want to buy something at a fair price.

    • Fanny
      June 28, 2018 / 11:06 am

I'm wondering the same thing too..I bought some houseware last Saturday and was wondering if I should go into the store for PA this weekend or wait and see if there'll possibly be 40% off…

  36. kelly
    June 28, 2018 / 11:47 am

I think they'll wait until after July 9th to offer 40% off sale so they won't have to give PAs.

  37. Nancy Walsh
    June 28, 2018 / 3:23 pm

I ordered and then received several items on 6/25/18 that were on sale. I emailed customer service this morning asking for a price adjustment. They said they would give it to me as a one time courtesy…What??? I was within the 14 days or is this also being eliminated? If so, I thought all the changes were effective as of 7/1? Very frustrating…I am doing them a service by purchasing their products (which I generally love) and yet it feels like they think they are doing me a favor by offering good customer service…on a one time basis it seems.

Can anyone clarify this for me?

          June 28, 2018 / 5:15 pm

It's true that after July 9 they will no longer allow PAs on items bought on sale, but in my experience, the online CS has always used canned language ("one time courtesy") like that, even when it's a matter of routine policy

I placed an order for a dress on backorder and two sale items that are still plentifully in stock. On my order page, it says for the two sale items “has yet to ship, arriving July 11.” And for the backordered dress “ has yet to ship, arriving Jul1”. Does anyone know what this means for the two sale items when they are not on backorder. Will it take that long for it to ship or to arrive? This looks new to me.

    • Dina
      July 2, 2018 / 9:51 pm

They're probably waiting for someone to return the 2 sale items.

      • Dina
        July 2, 2018 / 9:53 pm

I think that's usually the case when there's only one of the item left.

          July 4, 2018 / 12:40 pm

I just noticed you said the items are still plentiful in stock (read it too fast the first time). I guess it just takes a long time for the items to ship out of the warehouse.

    • Anthrogirl14
      July 6, 2018 / 3:05 pm

The sale items come from stores, not the warehouse. So staff needs to physically find your items, package them and ship them out. Can take a while sometimes.

And I ordered a dress from free people last Friday and THAT hasn’t shipped yet either.
I’m kind of fed up with the entire company right now.

FYI, for the first time in 14 years of shopping at Free People, they refused to credit my return from February to my CC and issued me a store credit instead. Shoppers be warned! I had no idea there was a 30 day return policy and this is too short for me.

    • July 4, 2018 / 10:31 am

I'm so sorry Lou. That policy has been in place awhile at FP, at least two years. I agree 30 days is too short; it should be at least 60.

    • kelly
      July 9, 2018 / 2:14 pm

That is the new policy as written; it remains to be seen whether they actually enforce it or if it's going to be like the "no PAs for temporary promos" rule that's on the books but enforcement varies widely depending on who you ask.

(I also posted this comment on the comment above)

On Anthro's website it says for orders placed on or after July 9 (it doesn't mention items bought in-store though) "A one-time price adjustment will be granted on full-price purchases only if an original sales receipt is presented within 14 days of purchase."

For orders placed before July 9 it says: "We will gladly offer you a one-time price adjustment for any full-price or sale item if you contact us within 14 days of the original date of delivery or in-store purchase."

So not sure if you'll be able to get a PA on sale items after today.

    • Dina
      July 9, 2018 / 4:24 pm

It says the same thing for in-store purchases as online purchases "A one-time price adjustment will be granted on full-price purchases only if an original sales receipt is presented within 14 days of purchase."

A top I want got marked down today, but I'm waiting to see what happens with respect to a percent off promo. It would suck to buy something and not be able to get a PA when it is cheaper just a few days later. Especially since I probably wouldn't even have received it yet.

Yes!! Is awesome…I tried the 4 but sized up to a 6…it runs a bit small in the chest. The only slight issue I have is it fits everywhere perfectly but I might have it altered in the top shoulder area to suck in the arm holes just a tad. They are just slightly big(the back area flares out some) I'm 5'3 and it fits everywhere else..waist, length. I sometimes have an issue with the bodice at times( a bit long) Super cute though if you love the pattern. Made very well, lined, pockets 🙂

Along with my confusion about why there is hardly any merchandise in the stores, I am also noticing that they haven't put out a catalogue in two months, and haven't posted anything on their blog since June.
