OOTD: Neutrals are not boring featuring Anthropologie survey discount picks

I am certainly the kind of girl who likes color in my outfits! That said, too much color can be a distraction at work on important meeting days. In the past I may have grudgingly reached for my neutral pieces. These days? I’ve gotten a lot better at making even neutral combinations visually interesting and fun to wear! It’s true: neutrals are not boring.

Ostensibly, this outfit has one color (blue) and a whole lotta neutrals (camel, white, grey). All it takes is a bit of fun to make this kind of look pop! From gold earrings with white tassels to some jean distressing to tassels on a yummy bag, this outfit has personality in spades. This outfit is how I know neutrals are not boring. Who knew that American Eagle would become one of my go-to stores? Yet lately I’ve been so impressed with almost everything they carry from jeans to jewelry to lingerie. They’re running a great online-only promo — more on that tomorrow, including picks. Also, this Blank NYC moto jacket has been a total workhorse for me lately! It’s just one of many beautiful colors and fits Nordstrom has to offer right now.

The real happiness-maker for me in this outfit comes via Anthropologie, my once-favorite store. My bag in this look has been one of my biggest wins from Anthro the last few years! It’s simple, cute, functional and completely affordable. Anthropologie must know they have a hit on their hands with this one because they’ve split it into two product pages — here are the other colors.

My cowlneck is included in the Anthropologie mid-April sale promo that’s going on this weekend. You already know that I believe neutrals are not boring, but this top also comes in teal if you lean more towards color. Read more about that and get my picks here. I know that many of you have not bought into the sleeveless sweater idea yet. I must say that for me these are perfect for days when I need some extra warmth on my torso (either from chilly air or aggressive office A/C) but still want some breathability. I’m sure I’ll wear this top right into Summer if not year-round.

I agree with Trixxie’s comments on another post that there is way too much vacation/resort stuff in Anthro’s current assortment and not nearly enough feminine yet practical clothing. Here are some highlights for me. The Tululah Wrap Linen Dress ($138 + 20% off) is wonderful if you’re under 5’6″. This is one area where Anthropologie needs to redifferentiate itself from Free People. The length is too short; it’s very Free People. Anthropologie needs to take the skirt here and make it 2-3″ longer; more appropriate for Moms bending over to pick up young children or city ladies who might find themselves reaching down for a pair of dropped sunglasses.

Elsewhere, the Ulysees Peasant Top ($98 + 20% off) is simply gorgeous as is the Megan Eyelet Blouse. The Anthropologie survey discount will go a long way on the latter’s $268 price tag. (Eek!) Speaking of stretching that discount, I’m in love with the Newport Eyelet Midi Dress ($448 + 20% off). It’s so nice to see Nanette Lepore back at Anthropologie! The Savoy Buttondown Dress ($158 + 20% off) makes me miss Girls From Savoy so much. I might buy this dress in their honor (assuming it fits over my chest which is a real question mark at Anthropologie these days)!

Finally, I’m really excited about two tops. Firstly, the Seamed + Textured Tank checks in at $58 before the discount. The yellow color reminds me of a much more expensive Tibi top that I own and love. The model shot does nothing for that Tibi top — it’s divine and quite curve-friendly on. So this Anthropologie variant seems like a total steal! Grab this one for sure!

That Anthropologie survey discount is also making the Evie Tunic tee, which is $68 pre-discount, look mighty tempting. Last year Anthropologie had a similar green top that I bought but then ended up returning because the fabric wasn’t breathable. (Jog your memory here.) This top looks much more up my alley!
