Just kidding, NYC, says Mother Nature! You’re gonna get more chilly dates yet. Fine, says I. Cape season is extended! A cape completes the perfect work outfit.

I’d be remiss not to start with my cape. I’ve owned it for 5+ years now and it is a very special piece to me. I wore it to my first date with my now-fiancé Alexander. I wore it on my interview to my current job and it is such a great finishing touch to any work outfit. Although cape season is long gone at retailers, Nordstrom releases a new version this cape every year! Look for it again in the Summer Anniversary Sale. Every time I put it on, I feel instantly glamorous and like I’ve made it.
When I first moved back to NYC after college, my BFF Molly and I would meet up for dinner and discuss how in our 30s we’d rule this town! We’d have top jobs at fashion magazines or prestigious newspapers. Correspondingly, we’d wear fabulous work outfits, take black cars to work every day and wear high heels with fancy coats. Perhaps, we’d wear capes. Every Winter I looked but it took me several years before I found the right pick for cape season. I can safely say the ideal choice is now in my closet.
Some of the details have changed (goodbye journalism, hello motherhood for Molly and technology for me!) yet the finer points have been hit. We do in fact rule this town as comfortable boss babes in our 30s, wear stylish work outfits and feel like this city is pretty much our oyster.
Working in fashion technology and being right on the upper edge of Millennial gives me unique insight into the way the trends are moving. I’ve noticed a ton of plaid on the horizon and decided to incorporate it into my outfits now. Consequently, over a feminine lace cami, this entire outfit reads as casual yet professional. Finally, a new bag to my closet adds the ideal finishing touch.
Spring may not be here in the temperature yet, but I feel it in every step. Like this outfit? Firstly, see all of my OOTDs here. Roxy, I love this outfit!! And, these photos are incredible!
Thanks Rynetta! Soho always makes for a good backdrop. 🙂
I have always hated capes but this one is awesome. I really can imagine wearing this with jeans and boots, through to a great work dress. So good.
Yes that is so true Sandra! I also wear this cape with jeans and over-the-knee boots and it looks fab. Love your idea!
Love this pairing of oversize coat with check shirt. Your hand bag is too stunning.
Thank you so much Minakshi!
I am obsessed with capes, I have quite a few. But yours is absolutely stunning, that fur collar is everything! Love the whole look.
Thank you Sandra! A cape is totally a must-have in my opinion.
Love a good cape, but have yet to find the perfect one. Loving the fine jewellery though – I'm usually one for statement pieces but these look great
Thank you Aine! I like little rings that I can mix and match among outfits.
I think capes are so chic and effortless!
Agreed! They're an easy way to upgrade an outfit from put together to downright chic.
Such a great outfit! I love when I find a piece that lasts 5+ years.
Me too Laura! I change over my closet quite often so to have some pieces in there that have been there for a long time makes them extra special.
Such a chic cape! Hoping for warm weather soon!
Crossing my fingers and toes!
So gorgeous, Roxy! I love how you styled your denim skirt with a cape. A combo I never would have thought of!
Thank you Rachel! The skirt's length lends itself to pieces like capes.
Love your cape – it is indeed very glamorous! Gorgeous bag too!
One of the best items of clothing I ever had was a cape – vintage 1960s royal blue velvet with rhinestone buttons. Sadly, I do not own it anymore, and am very sad about that. It was truly a special piece.
Ahhh that sounds so lovely Anthropolitan! I love royal blue (and royal purple for that matter!).
What a chic look! I just got my first cape and I am so excited to style it!
That IS exciting Liz!! Capes are such a fun topper. I love that they can be warm or breathable as needed.
such a gorgeous look!
Thank you Stesha!
You look fab! Love this look!
Thank you so much Jam!
I really like your outfit. The shoes and bag are on point. They look so stylish.
Thank you!! This bag is very special to me.
I hate that it’s still winter in ny! Loveeee that cape though!
Right there with you lady. Snow tomorrow which is crazy and then hopefully the warm weather is right behind it.
