Madewell delivers a sweet holiday treat

Hot off the heels of its Black Friday weekend promotion, Madewell seems to be feeling extra generous this week and is back with a new offer! And with so many lovely new arrivals, like the subtly festive Silk Flutter-Hem Dress in Star Mix ($148) above, I’m ready to deck the halls with Madewell order boxes!

Here’s the offer: Take 20% off your $100+ purchase, and 30% off your $200+ purchase. Use the code OHWHATFUN at checkout. Sounds great, right? Well there’s a bit of a record-scratch to this one. The exclusions list is pretty long and includes all leather apparel (le sigh), the Transport collection (deeper sigh), cashmere (angsty sigh), shearling (woeful sigh) and all third-party stuff. What does that leave, you may be wondering? While it’s sad to see so many items left out of this Christmas list, there’s still plenty of goodies! And every participating item is clearly marked on its product page. Let’s take a look at some of the items I’m currently dreaming of.

There are several gorgeous new dresses that are party-ready yet classic enough to be worn year-round. It’s no surprise many of them are close to selling out, like the Flutter-Sleeve Mini Dress ($98) you see above. (Love the shoe choice here.) You may also want to act quickly on the high-necklined Amaryllis Ruffle Dress in Lilypad Hearts ($148) which is very flattering on and a good length.

It’s interesting how Madewell can push my limits and tempt me into items I wouldn’t ordinarily be interested in. Take the Silk Waterlily Ruffle Dress (now $100). Online, I felt dubious about its color and shape. In-store I saw it styled with the Metallic Quilted Military Jacket ($168) looking great together, and when I tried on the outfit for myself I adored the dress! The jacket is nice but a bit too oversized for my taste.

I also want to mention a couple of dresses that are excluded from the promotion online, but are so pretty they might be worth your investment anyway. First is the perfectly cheery and boho Daphna Floral Dress ($165), and the other is the flowy, gorgeous — stunning really — Silk Pandores Tie Dress ($450). I don’t want to mislead or make any promises but sometimes, sometimes when I’m making large purchases in-store during these promos they’ll allow me to apply the discount on these excluded items too. Again, no promises and certainly the store is likely to say no but I do want to mention it in case you’re feeling brave. ?

From sweaters and shoes to jewelry and bags, my picks from this promo are below. What will you get during Madewell’s holiday offer? For those wondering if the offers will get better, I doubt it. After Christmas we can expect sale on sale, but for full-price items this is as good as I expect it to get.

Thanks for the helpful post, Roxy. Lots of tempting items, I would have definitely bought the Amaryllis Ruffle Dress. The lily pad hearts pattern on the fabric is gorgeous. Good thing it's sold out, I really need to focus on buying gifts right now.

I noticed. It usually hits sale around March or so…

The way Madewell styles things online does absolutely nothing for me, but I always find something cute whenever I venture into a store. I have to sit out this promo as I, too, need to focus on buying gifts, but otherwise I'd probably pick up some new bras, as I love their intimates line.

Yes I feel you on that! I noticed that they were recently looking for a new head of visual including website shoots, I'm hoping there will be a positive styling change based on that job posting.

That Silk Flutter Star Mix Printed Dress is mine! hehe:) I always seem to find something cute at Madewell, I just love the prints they come up with. I also appreciate the classic simplicity of their jewelry as well.

Awesome Jess, it's one of the things I got too. 🙂

New Anthro promo today – 30% off kitchen and dining!

Sweet! Thanks for letting us all know Denise!! I have two gift guides coming up — one for people who entertain often and one for chefs that will include items in the promo!

First up though, later today will be a gift guide for the men in our lives.

Any way to know how long the kitchen and dining promo will last?

It just says "limited time." Usually that means through the weekend, but no guarantees.

OT, but in addition to 30% kitchen and dining, Anthro is offering 30% off clothing and winter accessories. It's a nice promo, but I don't see anything that I want to buy . . . In any case, happy weekend!

I love the Silk Waterlily Ruffle Dress! How did you find it runs? I'm worried about the hip area – I'm usually a 0/2, but if it's cut straight, I may need to size up as my hips are my widest part. Can't wait to see how you style it 🙂
