Anthropologie fills it sale up with new temptations

If you’re in need or want of something new, or perhaps just a good giggle or two, then it’s time to check in with Anthropologie’s sale section where there are fresh cuts today. The highlight of the new markdowns has to be the Mother Intarsia Long Boxy Jacket (now $230, above) which is such a steal now and perfect for all those days that you wish you were a teddy bear. It’s very grrrr de chic..

…just kidding of course! Ugh, Anthro, what were you thinking?? This model above can’t even look. But luckily, there are in fact plenty of cute items that hit sale today including the Printed Pencil Skirt (now $50, above). The Ruffled Burnout Skirt (now $80) is another beautiful skirt option that’s layered, ruffled and a beautiful light teal.

I’m very much considering the Gemma Pleated Skirt (now $80) simply for its beautiful range of colors, and its golden-bronzy cousin the Pleated Metallic Skirt (now $60) is quite pretty in its own right and a great price too.

Lots of adorable and functional jackets also hit sale today, beginning with the highly-rated Renley Handkerchief Jacket (now $80) above. Personally I’m not a fan of handkerchief hems like this one, but I did try on and fall in love with the Utility Moto Jacket (now $80) which has a very cool button top layer and the Sherpa Moto Jacket (now $90) which is too short for everyday wear for me but does look great with high-waisted jeans and a striped shirt underneath.

There are fabulous new frocks in sale too. I love the Trimmed Peasant Dress (now $120, above in purple motif) even though it looks a bit sister-wifey to me online — in real life it’s much sharper and looks great under a faux leather moto. Another popular dress new to sale is the Milou Dress (now $90).

I own and love the Cloth & Stone Chambray Tunic Dress (now $90) which is new to sale today. Although lightweight, yes you can wear it in the colder months! Wear it with ribbed navy or black tights, black booties, and a grey cardigan that’s almost as long as it is for the perfect workday outfit.

I also own and adore the Mallorca Slip Dress (now $200), which is ideal for events or like the chambray dress above can be worn with a long cardigan for a fantastic workday outfit. This dress is low cut however so be prepared to wear a cami underneath it.

Other new sale hits for me today include a draped sweater I adore, an embroidered button-down, cute sneakers both floral and leather, a giraffe-embellished sweatshirt and a knit racerback dress that is great for athletic figures. All my sale picks are in the boutique below — yes, it’s highly likely that an extra percent off is coming, within the PA period I’d think.

I actually have a couple of things I can recommend from this sale. I have the plaid kerchief dress, and it's really cute. 100% cotton (although lightweight). You could totally layer it with tights and boots and a jacket/cardi for winter, and it looks cute belted or not. So, a great piece to wear and layer. I sized down one. https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/plaid-kerchief

The sita tulle skirt is also very pretty, and I could see dressing it up or down. I sized up in this, but if you have a narrow waist you could go with your regular size. https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/sita-tulle-ski

Also, this feather bib necklace is lovely. The feathers are tiny, so it's not overwhelming. Just a pretty pop of color. https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/cheyenne-feath

I am probably going to sit this one out, as Thanksgiving is 3 weeks from today, and both the annual Free People 25% sale and all the juicy BF sales are coming up. Gotta pace myself!

oh good thinking! Is the free people sale 25% off everything or just sale?

Just curious how the Free People Black Friday sale works. Is it only online for the 4 hours or is that in store too? Also, is it 4 hours in the middle of the night or something crazy like that? Thanks. There are a few expensive pretties that I have been eyeballing.

    • November 2, 2017 / 4:01 pm

Good call, that Free People sale is always a delight!

The skirt is very pretty. How will you style it? The more versatile it is, the better for me.

I think I'm going to wear it for Thanksgiving with a fitted black sweater. The skirt has a lot of colors in it, including hot pink, so you could go lots of ways with it.

I was wondering what you have for a fitted black sweater for this skirt..I'm on the look out for a good one! I might just use a shorter button up fitted cardigan but curious what you are leaning towards. Thanks!

I second the skirt..I also purchased a while back. I think it's a good one for dressing up or down for sure. Lots of great colors..and black!..which is great for my closet. 🙂

It's like there's a conspiracy to see if they can get us all to wear ugly things lol. That Mother Intarsia jacket is ridiculous and just doesn't in any way looks like it belongs at Anthro but I suppose people will buy it. I'm surprised it didn't make it to sale sooner. To each their own I guess!

I ordered the Elissa tunic in black and striped v neck pullover by moth along with some jewelry as Christmas gifts that I may or may not decide to give-I just wanted to get to the $150 threshold so I didn’t have to pay shipping.most of the items in sale are UGLY-I was just scrolling scrolling scrolling…. nothing to see here folks.

    • November 2, 2017 / 4:00 pm

Nice pickups Stefanie, Anthro's jewelry continues to be a highlight for me.

    • November 2, 2017 / 3:59 pm

Hmm while Anthro does not say they are exclusives, I don't even see them on the JC site which leads me to believe they either are Anthro exclusives or just not out anywhere else yet. (Or were already out and we missed them!)

"sister-wifey" – snort…I think it's the momsey booties they pair it with (styling, again).

May check it out anyway if you say it's less Prairie-ish in person.

    Happy Thursday

    • November 2, 2017 / 3:48 pm

Totally agree, the overall styling of that dress is very whhyyyyyyy on the site.

There is also nothing I would like to buy from this sale. Maybe a sleeveless top, but I won't get free shipping for just getting the top. I might check the store if I stop by a store this weekend. On a completely different topic, this morning, I grabbed a dress and a brooch from the Erdem X H&M collection that was launched this morning. I was so excited. Just wanted to share with you all:)

I have and can recommend the Rosie Long Kimono. It's styled terribly online, but it looks really good over skinny black pants or jeans and a fitted tee.

OT for anybody considering attending the store events tonight: I got an email reminder that said they'd be offering an in-store only, event-only, 25% discount. For those not attending, this probably means there's a promo on deck for the weekend (as that's usually what happens after they do a store event with a discount).

I wasn't going to go, but now that I know about the discount I may stop by and see if there's anything good. Lately my store has been getting new arrivals weeks before they show up online.

Yes I saw that as well! But considering they just did the 25% promo I really wonder that they would offer it again this weekend.

I stopped by the store event for about 20 minutes just as it was getting underway. They had fun snacks, fizzy drinks, and 25% off… but no voting on an archival collection as far as I could tell.

I bought an Albeit lipstick and the waffled v-neck peplum top (a very cute basic; size down). I tried on the grey/blue plaid Field Flower sweater coat that has disappeared from the website. It's very soft and warm but I thought the colors looked a little drab.

Nothing else really caught my eye.

        November 2, 2017 / 10:43 pm

I went tonight as well and stayed for a while but there was definitely no voting on an archival collection.

        November 3, 2017 / 10:03 am

I also went to the event (had a return too)/ snacks,champagne,cookies,music,25% off. I also purchased the waffled top in black,a frame,..the felted beanie in grey, and I bought the Field Flower blue/grey plaid coat there is no closure but it's made very well. I liked the colors as a good basic. 🙂
**I heard nothing about another archival collection either**

      • November 5, 2017 / 10:31 am

What a bummer that there was nothing about the archival collection. I guess they're all ?. Sounds like a very fun event though!

          November 5, 2017 / 2:26 pm

For some of us, it was the archival collection that was the lure…although I did manage to spend while I was there. I wonder what ever happened with that.

Somewhat OT to this sale post, but it may be pertinant to the Anthro event some of you are going to:

from Roland Mouret, 56, on net-a-porter's Edit:
“You don’t have to be talented to design for a near flawless model; to basically do nipple tassels and a bit of fabric.

The big difference with a woman and a model is the bra – women wear bras, models don’t.

If you ask a designer to model around a bra, they would think that’s not creative enough. But the moment you start to accept who you are making clothes for, you succeed.”

    • November 2, 2017 / 4:13 pm

      Great quote!!

    • Kelly
      November 2, 2017 / 7:52 pm

This has been one of my biggest beefs with Anthro the past couple of years. The idea that grown adult women (you know, the people who can afford to shop at Anthro) wear bras seems completely alien to the powers that be.

      • Barbara
        November 2, 2017 / 11:00 pm

They have so lost track of who their customer is, it isn't even funny. The new arrivals keep rolling out, each one more ugly than the one before it. Sooo many clothes to hate! There are a few good things, but you have to sift through mountains of crap to find them.

        • Kelly
          November 3, 2017 / 9:34 am

It's hard to figure out what they're going for. All the crop tops, mini skirts, graphic tees, general bra-unfriendliness of so many dresses and tops, etc. just feels very juvenile to me. I mean, sure, there are 20-year olds out there who can afford Anthro prices… but not enough to keep this company afloat if this is the road they intend to go down.

      • November 5, 2017 / 10:33 am

Even when I was a teenager with very little money, a lot of very 'trendy' pieces didn't appeal to me. This is not meant as a slight towards anyone with the same body type as models, but there are so few women like that in the world and it's not something I've ever aspired to look like either. Just as I'm sure model body types do, I enjoy my own body type. Can't there be more of a variety? I'm not saying stop making those clothes altogether — I'm saying design for more of your customers instead of an insulting few and then scratching your heads, incapable of understanding why your sales results are awful.

        It's eye-rollingly obnoxious.

        November 3, 2017 / 8:29 am

I think this year it will be more % off specially on sale items. Since has been already doing back and forth extra 40% pff sake items lately ?

        • Anthropolitan
          November 3, 2017 / 8:51 am

Yeah, they've pretty much set it up for us to expect a high % off sale. My sale rooms were bursting before this latest round of markdowns.

        • Kelly
          November 3, 2017 / 9:41 am

I wouldn't be surprised if they did 50% off sale again. I know they said it was mistake after they did that for Black Friday a few years ago… but all this ugly stuff ain't selling, and they've been doing 40% off too frequently for that to be anything special.

The sale room at my local store is chock full of ugly poly and rayon crap that nobody is buying.

      • Christina
        November 3, 2017 / 6:37 pm

I agree, Anthropolitan–the dress promo is rather lackluster (to say the least). I just did a search using Roxy's archives, and it looks like Anthro's Black Friday deal last year was 30% off everything. Let's hope for a similar promo this year!

I saw some sale items in my local Anthro, liked the Maeve polka dot blue tunic but only size xs left & it was a bit too snug. found a pair of white Veja sneakers, with another 25% off I paid less than $35, down from $120, so very happy. Been wanting a pair of white leather sneakers but since they’ll be a challenge to keep clean didn’t want to spend a ton. I rarely go to a store. Only look in sale room, especially if there’s 40%. I see quite a bit of Anthro in thrift stores, so worth it to look.

I must be the odd one out, b/c lately I have found a bunch of items that I really like. I attended the event last night and was so happy for the 25% off. I got the waffled v-neck peplum top, in plum and the b/w. It's really a basic but with just enough something extra that sold me. I also really liked the long-sleeve henley top by Akemi + Kin. Another basic with a little pizzazz. It will also look great under the faux fur-trimmed field parka I grabbed during the 25% a few weeks ago (one of my favorite items this fall!). Picked up the balloon-sleeve cardigan by Knitted & Knotted in gray, after getting the wine color a few weeks ago and absolutely loving it. On a whim, I tried on the ruffled cowl neck pullover in navy and really loved it. I left very happy, and the mini desserts were divine! Edible chocolate bowls filled with berries and cream. Yum!

    • November 5, 2017 / 10:35 am

Nice Eliz! I love that you spoke up with your love for Anthro these days — although I'm not feeling it, I know others are and I think it's great to hear ALL sides of perspectives rather than us just being an echo chamber of our frustrations. So thank you. ??

Just got an email from Sundance – 15% off plus free shipping over $100 (which is about as good as it gets for them for full-priced items). I don't see a code, but maybe it's out there somewhere?

    • Denise_S
      November 3, 2017 / 3:34 pm

The fine print says it is activated by entering the site through the email. Not sure how it would work otherwise, but I bet they would give you the discount if you called CS.

    • November 5, 2017 / 10:36 am

If anyone feels like forwarding me that Sundance email, I can strip out the personalization and hopefully share the link for the community to use! (And if you're not comfortable doing that no worries.)

Sigh, I managed to score the Pelisse Buttondown blouse on ebay for 30 bucks; just before it went on sale. However, I am having so much trouble styling it! Has anyone purchased this, and have some ideas for fall/winter?
