Investigating Nordstrom’s Summer Sale

One of the more promising sales happening this weekend is Nordstrom’s Summer Sale, offering up to 40% off already discounted and new sale markdowns. In general I find Nordstrom does very well with their selection, offering a great mix of brands I can’t find anywhere else and brands I already love. Their outfit section nearly always has plentiful inspiration for me, and I’ve been eagerly waiting for some of this stuff to get marked down!

Nordstrom carries a beautiful bounty of new feminine pieces, like the Shirred Off the Shoulder Top (now $54) above. (The booties are also great, but not yet on sale.) I haven’t tired of off-the-shoulder yet and this top looks beautiful over a pair of jeans or crops. I tried it on at full price and am delighted to see it’s gone on sale now!

Some of my other favorite new feminine sale items are equally as delightful as this top. There’s the Cotton Shirtdress (now $177), a pleated oxford-striped tunic that I styled in the ‘casual chic work’ outfit in this post, and the pinky-peachy Broderie Halter Midi Dress (now $62). These two dresses just need a denim jacket, blazer or long cardigan over them to be work-ready. Another favorite that I already own is the Tell Tale Sleeveless Tunic (now $65), which is still full price at Free People. You can see my OOTD with this tunic dress here. The coral pink thin-pleated Pleated Off the Shoulder Top (now $54) moves beautifully as you walk.

Then we have a trio of dresses that have caught my eye on sale. First, the long and ethereal Amita Maxi Dress (now $359) would require some kind of cami underneath to work for me — the extra effort might be worth it. The mix of prints on the Seenaa Print Jersey Midi Dress (now $111) seems ideal for hourglass shapes — cue my ?. For a universally flattering shape, there’s the lovely Fit & Flare Dress (now $77) that has mostly excellent reviews.

The Olivia Wrap Dress (now $30) is another cute dress that just hit sale.

Beyond the new markdowns I’m excited about I want to mention some items that I’d previously bought during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that are now marked down.

Firstly, I’ve been so delighted by the Tucked Faux Wrap Dress (now $135)! It’s too low-cut to wear to work without a cami underneath but it’s fantastic for date night! I took the largest size, a 4, in this dress. I have an outfit idea for it in the ‘date night, city style’ look of this post.

Another purchase I’ve been adoring is the ‘Harlow’ Cardigan (now $54) which I bought in the Gentle Sea color. It looks great over navy, pink and yellow, beyond of course white and grey and black. I don’t know if this color ever made it to J. Crew stores — but other colors ring up at about the same price there this weekend thanks to their 30% off promotion. I took my usual medium.

The Lace & Poplin Top (now $48) was a last-second addition to my Anniversary Sale order and I’ve been super pleased with it. My office tends to be very cold so I’m nearly always wearing a cardigan over the top, but if you’re not be aware that the back is sheer! I proposed an outfit for it as the ‘Playing Around with Blues & Pinks’ look in this post.

Finally, the Tiered Shift Dress (now $84) has mixed reviews online, but I love it. The main complaint is that the bottom tier can look like a slip is peeking out…I do not find it to look that way at all! To me it looks like a cute double-layered dress. An extra bonus? I didn’t realize it when I placed my order, but the dress has clever pockets! The ‘green park’ color really brings out my hazel eyes. I get tons of compliments on this dress.

I’ve rounded up a whole lot of picks to choose from in two boutiques below. First all are of my sale clothing picks, and then below that are my accessory picks. Have you shopped this Nordstrom sale? What do you own already and would recommend to the community?

I love Nordstrom, but I find that the sheer volume of items can be overwhelming, so this round-up is very helpful! I just bought the Sanctuary Bell Sleeve Stripe Top after seeing that it can be worn on the shoulder. I hope everyone is having a nice holiday weekend!

Thanks for all the ideas, Roxy, and for directing me back towards Nordstrom.

I see that a lot of the items from the big pre-season sale are here again (including some items I bought that have not shipped yet), often cheaper than they were a month ago. Interesting… I might pick up a couple of things I didn't get at the first sale.

Wow you're still waiting for shipments from the Anniversary sale? I too find it a little odd that some of these items are so new and suddenly marked down, yet it almost always happens.
