Hunting for goodies in Anthropologie’s freshest cuts

Anthropologie is starting off our Mondays right with new sale markdowns, plus an extra 25% off sale! (No code required, discount applies at checkout.) A promotion like this leads me to take a second look at a lot of items that weren’t exciting me at full price but may be worthy at a great discount. Here are some of the items catching my attention now.

Above, it may be post-Labor Day but the pink colorway of the Jacquard Tank (now $30 + 25% off) looks so cute in the outfit shown above! It’s paired with the Mint & Rose Deia Block Heel Sandals and the Mother Peg Denim Skirt, both of which are unfortunately sold out. This is a very similar skirt which I own and love (size up, it runs very small around the waist!). The top has a 70s vibe to it surely but isn’t over the top. It’s not what I know and love from Anthropologie but it’s a fun top I’d take a shot on.

I like all three colorways of the top (the white is a solid, not print) and it is rated very highly so far in its reviews. The dark yellow color is perfect for Fall! Another top I totally love is the silk-like Strappy Colorblock Cami (now $40 + 25% off), which is actually hammered polyester. It’s much, much prettier in person and runs true to size. You’ll also find jackets I own and adore in sale, including AG’s Robyn Denim Jacket (now $130 + 25% off, size up, I took a L) and AMO’s still-pricey but very wonderful Floral Surplus Jacket (now $250 + 25% off, runs TTS).

Another top I have been intrigued by since it came out is the Monroe Oversized Buttondown (now $50 + 25% off), especially in this colorblocked pattern. I wish it were not oversized (structure and shape Anthropologie, structure and shape), but it could make a great work top over a paired of sharply tailored flare jeans or pants. The top also comes in a more traditional stripe. I’d wear a simple cami under it (likely this one from Sundance Catalogue) so I could wear the top open with a wide belt or closed.

Other sale tops I’m thinking about include the Maylou Open-Shoulder Blouse (now $70 + 20% off) with its beautiful florals, the Needlepoint Tank (now $40 + 25% off), the Straight Silk Camisole (now $40 + 25% off) with its multi-set straps and the Striped Bell-Sleeve Top (now $60 + 25% off) by Dolan, a favorite brand of mine. We can cry together about how the potential-filled Ruffled Button Top (now $40 + 25% off) missed completely in terms of fit, even though the design warms my heart.

I tried the Riverine Midi Skirt (now $50 + 25% off) on at full price. My usual size 10 fit, but there was no way to keep the buttons down the front from gaping. Anthro could have easily fixed this by using stiffer material for the button placket (this is sewing/design 101 stuff, come on Anthropologie!) but since they didn’t I left it behind on the rack. I don’t think it’s a sizing issue; I think it’s a design issue. If you look at at the white version’s catalogue shot you can see puckering around the buttons even on the model. It’s because the placket is too soft.

Now on sale I’d take the plunge and fix the placket myself with some velcro patches between the buttons. This is exactly the kind of annoying design/quality issue that is plaguing Anthropologie right now and making longtime customers like you and me mad. This skirt comes in the lovely navy you see above, as well as a khaki green and a white with green tinges to it. It’s got a beautiful shape and sits nicely on the hips and down the frame. That stupid placket issue is an annoyance that wasn’t worth full price to me.

Yes, I’m even recommending a jumpsuit. Maybe it’s because I’m knee-deep in NYFW at this moment (thanks for your patience during my posting breaks!) but I think this one looks particularly cute. It’s the Pilcro Femme Denim Jumpsuit (now $70 + 25% off), shown above with the Wooden Bell Hoop Earrings (now $90 + 25% off) and the sold out Samantha Circle Crossbody Bag and Pinaz Ankle-Tie Espadrilles. I ended up buying this (!!) and wearing it to a party (!!!) over the weekend and got tons of compliments on it. However, my affinity for it is tamed by a few issues

Firstly, the zipper is not great quality. It sticks easily and doesn’t seem to be of great construction; I worry that in a year or two it will be irreparably stuck or misaligned. The teeth are really short and flimsy on the zip — this is another ongoing issue at Anthro. Secondly, in order to take the jumpsuit off in addition to taming the tricky zipper you also need to undo buttons that are placed on the neckline in a spot nearly impossible to open solo! Try going to the bathroom in this thing — I dare you. Again, how on Earth this passed through design muster without someone noticing these two huge design negatives is beyond me.

Luckily, for my party it wasn’t an issue, but because of these two issues I will save the jumpsuit for special occasions. It can’t be an everyday work piece for me which is a shame because it’s really cute. Not that I am encouraging Anthropologie to make more jumpsuits! If you’re feeling brave then this one is a winner. I sized up all the way to a 12 to get the torso long enough for my 34DD chest.

Over in the dress section, you’ll find cute new sale options to re-examine like the Piper Flutter-Sleeve Shirtdress (now $100 + 25% off), above. You’ll find this dress runs slightly large, especially through the shoulders. But overall it has good shape and nice colors making it easy to wear for work or play. It can also be belted! I also find myself interested in hunting down the Nilaya Dress (now $50 + 25% off) to try — have you tried this dress on?

Hidden way in the back of the fresh cuts section you’ll find the beautiful Rosa Embroidered Swing Dress (now $130 + 25% off), a dress that nails both the look and design we love here while being of good quality and fit. We can commiserate the beautiful aprons that should be dresses like the Eyelet Gingham Apron (now $25 + 25% off), wonder about the potential of the Ikat Halter Dress (now $50 + 25% off) and decide together if the Cloth & Stone Frayed Gingham Dress (now $90 + 25% off) is too short for work.

Accessories are surely a high point of Anthropologie’s assortment and the fresh cuts have tons of pretty adornments to freshen up any outfit. I love the Embroidered Florals Headband (now $20 + 25% off) shown above (the earrings are not yet on sale). In jewelry new markdowns include the lovely Pearl Pendant Necklace (now $40 + 25% off) which is a modern spin on the classic pearl necklace; Sibilia’s Movement Disc Drop Earrings (now $30 + 25% off) and the lightweight Ringed Drop Earrings (now $30 + 25% off).

Below, enjoy everything from elephants to jean booty shots, lots of lovely jewelry and clothing worthy of a second look, plus some home cuts too, in my sale selections boutique. What will you get from Anthropologie’s freshest cuts?

      Isn't it so cute?

Super cute! That might tempt me enough to head to the store today. We have a similar bra size, but I have a short torso, so we'll see how that works out size wise. Terrible reviews regarding the buttons and zipper, but all my yoga classes might come in handy for the buttons at least 😀

I'd love to know what you think after trying it on!

I just got tried on the 4 and 6. I'm usually XS (sometimes S) in tops and 27 in jeans, 32DD bra. The 4 was slightly tight in the bottom, but torso too long. The 6 was good, but torso way too long. I'd say that this one is a bit tricky to fit even for a jumpsuit, because the straps do not adjust. If you have a long or short torso, this probably won't work for you (per the reviews online and my own experience). That being said, I saw a sales person today who was totally ROCKING it, so pretty sure if it works for you, it'll be magic!

Caution about two buttons on the left strap. Both sizes in my store had one button each missing. There is no spare button (lame), so if you buy this, definitely plan on reinforcing the button. I didn't have much trouble with the zipper. A bit flimsy, yes, and have to be gentle when going through the waist section where there are multiple layers of fabric. I did ok buttoning and unbuttoning myself out of the jumpsuit. I followed the trick one reviewer suggested. Use the right strap to feel your way/lift the left strap up to where you can button the left strap.

          • September 13, 2017 / 4:25 pm

Good stuff, I'll have to go read the reviews to learn that trick!

You basically pull the whole thing up as much as you can by lifting the right strap, then reach over your left shoulder to find the left strap. Would love to see how you style the jumpsuit if you care to share!

I almost missed this. I bought the Ola Embroidered Peasant Top, the Lindsey Embroidered Tunic Dress, the Scalloped Halter Top in both the black and the cream, the Cydney Tiered Maxi Dress, the Ferrah Embroidered Dress, the Amalfi Dress and the Laced-Hem Slip Dress and a couple of plates. Phew! I'm not sure what got into me but it was fun.

LOL! I honestly can’t tell if you’re joking or not, because besides Liberty of London my boyfriend will attest that I’m addicted to all things Mongolian wool. I would totally buy that stool!!!

I was joking – so many of the items on the sale page cracked me up that it was hard to choose. 🙂 I guess the practical side of me looks at that stool and just sees that it would shed like crazy and get matted and dirty in a heartbeat.

In all seriousness I do plan on picking up a few pieces of jewelry. One of my closet needs is necklaces with colors in them besides just silver and gold, and there are a few cute necklaces on sale that I seemed to have missed earlier.

We had that stool when I was a kid. I am seriously thinking about getting it 🙂

Has anyone tried the Sutton lace dress by Eva Franco and can comment on the fit/quality? TIA!

      September 11, 2017 / 7:36 pm

I have not tried this dress but I do own the similarly styled Eva Franco Dress that came in a red stipe linen. I found this dress was true to size to a bit large. I wear a XS/0/2p and ended up with a 0p. I love the style of the dress, and it has positive reviews.

I highly recommend the Kinsley cutout dress. I bought it with only 20% off but on sale on sale, its FAB. 🙂

A number of my wishlist items went on sale, but I'm not biting. I'm just trying to buy less these days and only the few things that are really special or very versatile. That said I was tempted by some of the fresh cuts. I wish more of these were in stores, because If I was able to try them on I would know which items are really great and which are a bust. Maybe I'll see what my store has tomorrow.

Sounds like an excellent plan Lori.

I am purchasing that way as well. I'm trying to fill my closet with quality vs quantity as I have done so much in the past with items that really don't mesh together. I'm actually looking more at Everlane for some classic basics. Really loving their items lately.

        September 12, 2017 / 9:32 am

I just discovered Everlane and -wow- I love it. Especially the transparency idea and the ethical manufacturing. We don't have it here in Canada, but it reminds me of a fine knits brand we have here called Ca Va De Soi. Have you bought anything from Everlane yet? Curious about the quality. It sure looks good online.

I've bought 3 of there cotton sweaters and love them! Also 2 t-shirts. They are all great quality cotton and the fit is just perfect. I also purchased a silk cami and it was double lined! Can't imagine anthro selling one like that….ha!

            September 13, 2017 / 8:32 am

Thx for the info. Their cotton sweaters look amazing. So tempting! I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a pair of jeans, a shirt, and a pair of really cute sweatpants. :^) On top of better cut & quality, Everlane seems a lot cheaper than Anthro–go figure! All the t-shirts I wanted are waitlisted, but I'll be back!

Yes, same here. Really like Everlane. So far I've purchased the Modern Ankle boot in black and a couple of the highneck tank dresses.

I will! They come in the mail today!! Yay!! I decided on the lighter blue denim mid rise ankle. If these are awesome, I'm hoping to try another pair.

            September 15, 2017 / 6:13 am

Ok the jeans ran small to me. I'm pretty much a consistent 27 and I could barely zip them up. They are stiff too. Wondering if I even want to go up a size and retry because of the $7 return fee. I loved the color though but man they were tight. It was the mid rise ankle in medium blue.

Has anyone noticed that some sale items that were fully stocked for all sizes are suddenly out of stock?

    • September 11, 2017 / 10:00 pm

Yes, I think they turned store fulfillment off.

I just called as well. I've been trying to get my refund to show up in PP that they said they sent, but PP says they didn't. Fun times.

Ugh, I really want the Raye Pommed Mules, but the extra 25% off doesn't show up on them. Do you think if I order through the store they'll give me the extra percent off??

    • September 13, 2017 / 4:25 pm

Yes, you could also order them and call CS to see if they'll adjust.
