J.Crew’s latest promo is too good to resist!

Up your neutrals game with the White denim skirt with raw hem ($70 + 30% off)
and a tan shirt. This one is sold out, but I like this top even better anyway!

It’s been a pretty dramatic couple of weeks for J. Crew, first announcing the departure of Jenna Lyons, then laying off 150 employees and quietly parting ways with Head Men’s Designer Frank Muytjens. But on their website you’d never know anything was up as things look as cheery as usual, with two wonderful new promos to boot!

I’ve actually loved quite a bit of what J. Crew has done this Spring, and want to support the brand (and especially my friends who work there!). So let’s talk good news: right now J. Crew is offering 30% off your purchase and an extra 40% off sale, both with the code BIGSALE. In this promo you’ll find lots of neutral and colorful delights to make your Spring and Summer closets really pop!

Inside, the items that I’ve purchased and have caught my eye in-store…

I go to J. Crew looking for preppy chic, something they have in spades. Although many stores are carrying a one-shoulder ruffle top this year I ultimately decided to purchase the One-shoulder ruffle top in eyelet (now $88 + 40% off) because of the little details in this top, including the double ruffle and the fun different sizes of eyelet in the top. I’m shooting an OOTD with it today, and am pairing it with white jeans (these from last year, though these current ones are also a great idea) and a pop of color for an ultra-sleek look.

The Off-the-shoulder striped sweater (now $70 + 40% off) has been popping up in my Instagram feed a lot recently (most recently on Katie’s Bliss) with good reason — it’s such a cute, lightweight sweater! More of a shirt really, the mixed stripes are a wonderful modern update on a classic pattern. It would go great with the white skirt topping this post; I have been wearing mine over a leather midi skirt from last year (seen on me here).

Another item from J. Crew that I bought awhile ago and love, but haven’t mentioned much lately, are the Skinny stretch cargo pant with zippers (now $40-$70 plus up to 40% off, seen on me here). I adore the ankle zippers and the pockets, which have great placement in my opinion! Sometimes these big cargo-style pockets can be overwhelming for my lower half but not here. I own them in navy and linen.

Here are a few more of my latest J. Crew pickups that I adore and recommend:
1 | Looking for cute ballet flats? The Camille ballet flats in satin (now $100 + 30% off) are pretty, comfy and fit like a dream! Sizes keep popping back so be sure to watch for yours.
2 | It was my second choice (the long sold-out Northward Army Crop Jacket from Madewell in blush was my first choice), but now that I have the Garment-dyed safari shirt-jacket (now $65 + 30% off) in blush, I can’t imagine living without it! This jacket runs huge — I purchased it in a small. The back flutter is great for movement while walking but it’s not so oversized to be ridiculous. I wear mine with a white tee shirt and sleek jeans.
3 | You see them on me all the time in OOTDs; I love the Colette D’Orsays ($248 + 30% off) that I purchased them in a second color, the ashen brown.
4 | The Gingham ruffle-hem dress ($128) is stunning in person and is great for work or play. It runs true to size though it’s slightly longer, so petites may find it too long.
5 | I love my Floral necklace ($128 + 30% off) and wear it all the time (here most recently), likewise the Crystal Venus flytrap necklace ($98 + 30% off) has been a closet staple of mine for years now.

Want J. Crew outfit ideas? See my Spring picks — including complete looks — in this post and this one too.

Below you’ll find photos of everything mentioned in this post, plus lots more picks from the promo and sale (with a couple of exceptions that I like so much I had to include anyway!!). Note that my goal is not to overwhelm you with all these picks, but rather to show that there is a lot of good stuff to choose from in this promotion. What’s been good for you at J. Crew?

This is a great sale. I got the skinny cargos in the amber, the lightweight wool cardi in neon orange and navy, the elephant print tee (excluded from the promo but still cute enough that I had to have it), and a blue striped straw hat. Nothing was over $30 after the discounts. I think J. Crew mostly has to worry about quality control issues, especially regarding their knits, but a lot of their styles are flattering on my body type and fun to wear. So this is a brand that I think will bounce back, even with all the recent changes and upheavals.

The prices are kind of crazy good right now, aren't they? I agree with you, if they can just get the quality and sizing consistency nailed they'll be doing much much better as the styles are pretty these days. (With some crazy mixed in but that's always been J. Crew.)

I bought these gingham shorts recently, and I love them. They’re super breezy and comfortable, and not too short.

(Roxy, feel free to swap in your link). They also come in solids, and I may pick up another pair with this promo.

I got the Signet bag in Chestnut during the last sale and it's so good!

    • April 27, 2017 / 3:29 pm

It's such a classic shape and I love the little contrasting tassel!

Has anyone had a chance to try the Longsleeve Chambray Shirtdress. Not sure I want long sleeves but it seems like a great classic.

Question about J.Crew returns… I send back 2 different packages in the mail, using their return labels over a month ago and haven't heard a thing from them.. is this normal? How long do mail returns usually take? I don't live near a store, so walking them in was not an option, but this detour me from ordering from them in the future..

    • April 27, 2017 / 4:18 pm

Not that is definitely not normal! I would call to follow up with them.

Mail returns take a minimum of two weeks sometimes longer. Too long in my opinion and I keep letting them know. Did you by chance keep tracking number from return label? If so, send them an email with the tracking numbers. They've issued me a credit in advance of processing my return in the past. Even if you don't have tracking numbers get in touch with them. I've also asked them to include return tracking number somewhere on the order form so I don't have to write it down if I return. Hopefully at some point they'll do it. Many other retailers do.

I guess it is all relative. I find there returns to go much faster than Anthropologie which tends to be the black whole of returns (they can take anywhere from 2 weeks to a month there).

Too many off-the-shoulder tops and dresses. When will this ugly trend die?

I'm waiting as well. Also for the excessive ruffles, boxiness and cropped unhemmed jeans trend to be gone.

Tritto and no offense ??….but I've had my fill of Gingham too.

And I say that as someone who wore a Gingham dress just yesterday lol!

Omg yes! Gingham is becoming over the top

      • April 28, 2017 / 9:49 pm

You don't like ruffles??!? It's like you don't even know me. ????

OT, in case anyone isn't aware, all full price jeans are 20% off at Anthro starting today, plus you can also use the 20% off code from the survey on top of that (I did it). The code goes until Sunday April 30 and it's N224GTB7NFR (it can be used over and over again in store or online).

These new light wash Pilcro floral embroidered jeans are cute and with both discounts they're around $95: https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/pilcro-floral-

I also ordered these cute Miss L Fire Serape Sandals with the 20% discount: https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/miss-l-fire-se

Those Pilcro jeans are SO cute, I had to order them and I love those sandals but was hoping to hear how they fit first.

I ordered 2 sizes in the sandals and will return which ones don't fit.

Oh and with the 20% off code I was also able to get PA's on full price items I bought in the past 2 weeks. There were not many of those though!

I just saw the Serape cactus sandals on another site and they have the cutest 1/2 inch lucite heels – Anthro really does take horrible pictures of their merchandise, plus they don't even mention the lucite heels in the description: http://www.ashburyskies.com/miss-l-fire-serape-bl

OT but figure this is the community to ask re Anthro candles 😀 Truth be told, this is what my 20% coupon is coming down to (having read peoples comments from about a week ago, I may not be the only one?!?)
Am looking for a “clean” smell, preferably – but any suggestions would be nice. THANK YOU!
And now will check out J Crew 😉

      April 28, 2017 / 9:10 pm

Not exactly sure what you mean by a clean smell, but I really like the Capri Blue candles either in Volcano or Aloha. I haven't tried too many of their other candles and the other ones I have tried are sold out now.

Also if anyone is looking for a nice black dress, if this one pops back in your size I recommend it (it's sold out now – it runs pretty much TTS or a little large maybe): https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/textured-tie-b

That reminds me of the time I was in the sale room and a lady asked the SA if they had any unscented candles. I had to laugh…might as well go to Walmart for those!

I know there are rave reviews about the Boulangerie candles but I've found the throw to be terrible. And I live in an apartment. Unless you put your nose right down to the candle, you can't smell a thing. So don't waste your money.

I purchased the puckered gingham jacket with the prior 40% off and now the matching pants with 30% off. The look cute together but actually better mixed with other pieces. Now I am just waiting on a pop back of the colette d'orsays in my size. Although I may or may not have purchased them in other colors too!
