Shown with these shoes.

Anthropologie is running a FLASH SALE on selected coats through 4 PM, today ONLY. Use the code COUNTDOWN at checkout to get 40% off the selected coats.

Ready for a February reset? Anthropologie certainly hopes you are with tons of new arrivals and capsule landing pages to celebrate its newest stuff. Aside from the panic of seeing something called ‘Nautical Disco’ (halfway down this capsule page — God help us no) — there are some cute new pieces that have made it onto my wishlist.

Inside, thoughts and picks…

The Rhea Striped Pullover ($98) has potential to be seriously cute.
But among a sea of oversized, it’s exhausting at the same time.

In a way, I feel a little like a kid who’s been forced to try cauliflower so many times that eventually I’ve given in and started to tolerate — if not like — it. Were items like the Rhea Striped Pullover ($98) one of a few oversized sweaters I’d probably love it, but among so many other boxy oversized items it makes me slightly interested while also wanting to wave the white flag.

There is just so much head-scratching stuff. Someone is going to have to explain an Eyelet Windbreaker ($148) to me. ‘You know, it stops wind…but, uh, not…’  Or the Pilcro Denim Shirt Jacket ($138), which sounds like the plot of an old Seinfeld episode. Or what this poor sad sack is (great job by the models of faking it though!).

It’s clear to me that Anthropologie is going West Coast chic for Spring and it’s so disappointing to me. Wither the fate of stores like Pacific Sunwear. And there also seems to be a clear Gamine angle mixed in…they could not have picked two styles I’m less interested in. The last time Anthro tried this tactic — 2011, after a remarkably successful 2010, — they crashed and burned. I guess they want to do that again?

I don’t get it.

Love the new patterned colorway of the Frayed Tunic Dress ($128).

Pouting aside, with some digging I’ve been able to find some exceptionally cute new items among the fray. Because I can’t give up on Anthro entirely…I just pray each week that they’ll find their way again.

Some of the new collaborations are very exciting. I’m delighted that Anthropologie is now carrying Make Beauty for instance, a brand I’ve only seen in the highest-end department stores.

My newest wishlist additions include:
1 | The Joanna Top ($78), a soft-looking and well-draped top with potential.
2 | The Velvet Open-Shoulder Top ($88) which is a pretty pink with good length.
3 | The Pilcro Washed Chino Skirt ($88) that just seems like a true Spring winner.
4 | The playful and fun Lora Top ($68), though I wouldn’t want 18 more tops like it.
5 | The Alisha Camo Anorak ($158) which looks like it got every detail right.
6 | The dingy-beautiful Helena Silk Dress ($448).
7 | Deletta comes through with the appealing Margot Gathered Top ($58).
8 | A sweet pairing in the Eberjey Zelia Crisscross Chemise ($98) and the Zella Kimono Robe ($111).
9 | The Wrapped Up Leggings ($100) that make me want to go to Pilates immediately in them!
10 | The Knotted Dita Scarf ($198) which looks like such a fun statement making outfit topper.

Whether mini, full size, or luster, latte bowls are on promo!

Also, not new but very important side-note: all full-price latte bowls are 20% off for a limited time!! Squeee!!

The Itinerary Bomber ($128) is 40% off until 4 PM today!

AND Anthropologie is running a FLASH SALE on selected coats through 4 PM, today ONLY. Use the code COUNTDOWN at checkout to get 40% off the selected coats.

Here are some coat picks:
1 | Hilltop Ruched Bomber ($98 + 40% off)
2 | Itinerary Bomber ($128 + 40% off)
3 | Blocked Sherpa Bomber ($148 + 40% off)
4 | Pilcro Denim Jacket ($138 + 40% off, size up)

Bless you, Roxy–you gave it the old college try! :^) There's just so little to work with, but you've made some nice choices given the options. There's really not much I've added to my wishlist. Just the Belicia Shorts. I was looking through the site yesterday for stuff I could wear to meetings with clients–nada. Unless my meeting is on a beach or on a dream vacation in Morocco or at a shoulderless top convention, none of the new arrivals was appropriate.

I keep blaming Anthro, but maybe I've just outgrown them? It seems they used to design for grown women, though. The upside is that it has driven me back to my vintage shopping origins!

Sigh, I agree for the most part Soleil. I do see a few work-appropriate items (nothing brand new) but yes for the most part Anthro has gone California Casual on us.

I agree with Soleil, thanks Roxy but there's not a lot to work with here.

The Pilcro shirt jacket is supposedly “crafted with the highest quality denim” but is actually made of cotton, polyester, lyocell, spandex. Uh, “alternative facts”, much?

Even the Eberjey items, which used to be made with the best, the greatest, quality cotton, are now made with modal, spandex, nylon. Sad!

I have added the new AG items to my wishlist. I will wait for promo or sale (I don't want them badly enough to purchase at full price) but AG is always a good buy. Other than that, nothing, at least from Anthropologie. Overall I am not thrilled with any retailers spring offerings but there are a few things I am interested in at other retailers (ted baker, JCrew, madewell and bloomies/saks).

The AG set looks good, but not for my figure.

I managed to get into a store and tried on anything remotely interesting.

Tried on the white MiH Lova cotton sweater again, loved it again, passed on it again as I really don't need it. The HeiHei embroidered coat is very good quality, down to the embroidery, but the color doesn't suit me or my sis, and the cut is a bit too straight for us.

Two items that were well made confused me: white jumpsuit that ran large and had a lining was super warm. I don't mind that you can't wear a bra with it, but it was so hot. No way I could wear it in summer. Same for a cute striped cotton dress with white cotton stitched seams that had a fringe. Don't the designers think about when these get worn?

Tried on shoes that had been returned to store but didn't like the quality of any of them.

Nothing else worked out, so I went home and spent ages deleting things from the new 'improved' wishlist. Not one dress for my sis or me right now, but I do have Cartonnier shorts on the list.

I'm sure that by summer there will be a dress, in natural fibers, that will suit my sis or me, so I'll keep checking new arrivals.

    • February 9, 2017 / 3:29 pm

      Thanks for those reviews Eina!

The way you feel about that white jumpsuit is exactly how I felt about the Nautical Patchwork Tunic Dress ($178). It is very pretty but the material is so heavy, there is major overheating potential! It's like OK yes it has a nautical vibe, you don't actually have to use sail material to make it. 🙁

Oh, that's the name of the dress I tried on. Totally agree with your assessment. Maybe it is meant to be worn in a Brittany summer where it doesn't get all that warm, but you still want a summer vibe.

Anthro has a flash sale going on right now. 40% off select jackets through 4pm.

I breezed through the new arrivals yesterday and the only items that caught my eye were old popbacks and the See by Chloe shoe collection. I like many of those and wish they carried the clothing line too.

    • February 9, 2017 / 3:30 pm

And thanks to you too Lindinha!!

    Outback red!!!!

  8. February 9, 2017 / 11:24 am

Ha! Oops. Maybe they borrowed J.Crew's Copywriter From Space.

  9. February 9, 2017 / 11:27 am

Yup that look topping the post is totally cotton which makes me happy. I'm questioning whether the skirt will work on me but I'd like to give it a shot!

And yes to other retailers that are getting it right. I love so much in Ted Baker's Spring Collection, ditto Madewell, J.Crew, Sundance, and Club Monaco. I fear Anthro is falling behind and I want them to catch the eff up!!

  10. February 9, 2017 / 11:30 am

    Oh lord.

    February 9, 2017 / 2:13 pm

Please don't laugh, but I loved the Barnemme Tiered Pullover that I tried on. It was fun and swingy in a flamenco way, to be worn with high-waisted skirt or pants. For some reason it felt a bit itchy, but I can't think why as it is all synthetic.

I'd kind of liked that too. I saw it in the store and thought it was fun.

    • February 9, 2017 / 7:34 pm

I do like that sleeve style Eina!! I bought a dress at Club Monaco that has it in a beautiful powdery blue, OOTD coming soon.

So no laughing here. I just don't want Anthro to make 30 versions of it, you know?

  12. February 9, 2017 / 6:15 pm

Does anyone know if anthro will ever bring back the plates that go with the latte bowls?

    February 9, 2017 / 2:41 pm

Does anyone know if they have permanently gotten rid of the My Anthropologie photo blog? Why would they do that? I used to love looking through all those photos so much.

    • February 9, 2017 / 7:34 pm

It appears so and like you I'm seriously disappointed by it.

Personally I can't wait for this satin bomber to show up 😉
      https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/buttoned-high-

Thank goodness Anthro is carrying Rayban and ClareV because I'm starting to believe that is the only way I'll be able to spend my holiday gift cards!

  14. February 9, 2017 / 3:34 pm

It's possible! They discontinued the mini latte bowls but then customer uproar got them back!!

    February 9, 2017 / 4:06 pm

I am turnning to Jcrew lately….loving their spring styles and they are cute in person too and fit very nicely……hoping Anthro can bring some cuteness out soon as well……I have a gift card I would love to spend 🙂

    • February 9, 2017 / 9:09 pm

Agreed, I also have a gift card that's gone unused.

  16. February 9, 2017 / 5:08 pm

    For sure. 🙂

It's a winner for sure, all the little perforations are adorable on this jacket. It's a little cropped in the back but not overly so. I also purchased the Bougainvillea Bloom Cardigan and the Meadow Crewelwork Cardi because I was longing for old school Anthro style and these two seem to fit the bill. I ordered up to a Medium for both and they should be arriving sometime tomorrow so I'll be sure to let you all know how they fit as well.

      February 9, 2017 / 10:26 pm

Forgot to say “thanks!” to Anthropolitan for mentioning about the Bougainvillea Bloom Cardi in the Sundance post. I was so happy to see such a pretty sweater and it's exactly what I've been longing for lately:)

  18. February 9, 2017 / 10:48 pm

Nautical Disco?!!!! OMG! So I love the nautical look and I love a disco look… but… nautical disco?! I feel a snarky Marcy post coming on! lolol

    February 9, 2017 / 10:28 pm

If they included the Cadre Knit Military Jacket in the flash sale today, I would have gotten a price adjustment! Didn't see anything else I wanted included in the sale.

Liking the pleated tie waist pants, mostly for the color, and the geoscope jumpsuit even though I usually don't like jumpsuits. The “Almost French” top is cute but $121???? WHY??!!

i'm so sad that all the new arrivals are so ugly. it's like i'm missing an old friend. i haven't found any other stores that can take the place of anthropologie so i'm still hoping they can turn it around and bring back what we're all here for

    Missed the jacket sale! Boo!

    • Dina
      February 11, 2017 / 1:13 am

There were only certain jackets that had the 40% off and if you tried to put in any other jacket the 40% off code didn't work.

    February 10, 2017 / 1:19 pm

It looks like there is Free Shipping on $150 today.
This is never that much of a plus for me, especially as there is nothing I want at full price and no other promo.

I've been a long time lurker on this site. It's refreshing to know that I'm not the only one who feels this way about Anthropologie's clothing. What happened to them? I used to struggle with not blowing my entire paycheck on their clothes, and now and can't even find a single item I want. What a bunch of garbage. It makes me really sad, because their clothing was so unique and inspiring. I don't know where to shop now.

    • February 12, 2017 / 9:04 pm

You are definitely not alone! I've tried to highlight other brands on this site that are doing beautiful things, like Ted Baker, Boden, J.Crew, Madewell, Nordstrom and so on. 🙂 Keep reading and I'm sure you'll find some stuff to love, and I'll do my best to keep finding the nice things Anthro is hiding.
