Examining Anthropologie’s latest new dress arrivals

The pretty Picotage Sheath ($158), just one of many new Anthropologie dresses on my wishlist.

With my January birthday discount in-hand (you’ll be happy to know that Free Shipping is back with the birthday discount on purchases of $150+) I’m poring over Anthropologie’s site, wondering what delights will come home with me in this year’s birthday haul. My first category stop is dresses where plenty of pretty frocks await!

Let’s take a look at some of the dresses catching my eye right now…

The Arioso Sheath ($188).

It seems as though Anthropologie is in fact listening to our feedback as the newest frocks have noted versatility. Many of them would translate easily from the office to a night out. I’m thrilled by all the knee-length or slightly longer options, which gives this tall gal more uses for each one.

Among my favorites from the new arrivals are the Picotage Sheath ($158) topping this post and the Arioso Sheath ($188) directly above. The complex pattern on the Picotage Sheath ($158)  lines up at the seams — hooray — and it has some give to it. The Arioso Sheath ($188) reminds me of Lela Rose in some ways and has several thoughtful details that make it look fun to wear, though any dress called a sheath gives this hourglass some pause. Add the pretty jacquard Shelby Sheath ($178) and long, glamorous-seeming Evangeline Sheath ($178) to this list too! For Byron Lars lovers, the new Ainu Beaded Sheath ($398) is quite alluring.

I’ve noticed a lot of ivory/black and black/white dresses in this collection thus far. Beyond the Arioso Sheath ($188) there’s also the faux-wrap with a twist Gravity Cross-Front Dress ($148) which is also high on my wishlist, the Index Sweater Dress ($168), the Lace Chevron Petite Dress ($168), the super modern Dichotomy Shift ($348), the adorable Two-Tone Lace Shift ($178), the previously mentioned in another post Effemy Jacquard Shift ($138) and the gently shaped Cinched Sketch Dress ($138). No two of those dresses are even similar; it’s great to see so many different takes on one idea!

Then there is the part of me that is already on vacation, who wants to be wearing the Gathered Stripes Midi Dress ($158) around Costa Rica. I usually buy myself one new dress for each trip and this one could be the one for CR.

There are some other cute potential jet setting dresses, like the Calpurnia Swing Dress ($198) that has a very similar top twin in the Laia Shell ($68), the super-cute Ninette Dress ($498), the Circium Maxi Dress ($598), and the Sao Paulo Tunic Dress ($138) which seems perfect for walking around the shops in nearly any warm-weather destination town or city.

The Spliced Shift ($158).

Back to reality for a bit where I’m delighted by some of Anthro’s more modern offerings, like the Spliced Shift ($158). When I say I go to Anthropologie for classics with a twist, this is a fantastic example of what I mean.

This piece is in good company among the Codetta Mockneck Dress ($188), Collared Jacquard Shift ($228), Sugared Rose Neoprene Dress ($375 – love, love, love), Brocade Blossom Mini Dress ($488), Lais Dress ($178) and yes even the Chevron Fringe Jumpsuit ($278). These pieces all take a classic shape that is usually rendered in masculine materials and gives them a soft, feminine twist without going overboard into twee. It’s a small grey area that Anthro seems to have found the sweet spot for this season. Yay!

Every winter Anthro seems to deliver one killer tunic dress and one killer shirtdress. My vote for the former goes to the Arcata Patchwork Dress ($148) above. I adore the colors, the sleeves, really everything about it. In shirtdresses, it’s a toss-up for me between the very structured Therain Shirtdress ($148) and the very plaid, very oversized Lexington Shirtdress ($148).

Another loose and cute tunic option is the Denim Tie-Neck Tunic Dress ($138). It comes in two colors which I adore equally, though the winter in me is leaning towards the darker ‘carbon’ color at the moment.
