Oh, Banana Republic, I’m so upset with you right now. You did exactly what I hoped you wouldn’t do — after less than a year, you moved the fabulous Marissa Webb out of the Creative Director position and into a ‘creative advisor’ role, whatever that means. It’s hard not be frustrated by that move just 18 months into her tenure…especially when the store was turning such a brilliant corner. But its hard to argue with quarterly results and they’ve been pretty bad for BR recently. This store is one of my work clothing staples so I want them to do well!
So, I’ll be enjoying the last of Ms. Webb’s Creative Director designs while I can. Right now, to help in that effort Banana Republic is running two pretty sweet promos. First, they are offering 40% off your purchase with the code BRFRIENDS. All Monogram items and BR Picks are excluded from this promo which eliminates a lot of beautiful options, but there are some other pretties worth highlighting.
Inside, those items, plus details on the other promo BR is running right now…
What will you use the 40% off promo towards? If you’re feeling brave the Ruffle-Front Blouse ($90) is also pretty to look at and has an interesting ruffle deployment. I’m more inclined towards the print version which makes the ruffle less overt. There’s also the Tiered Ruffle Sleeveless Blouse ($80) shown above which is silhouette-lengthening and pretty. I promise that’s my last mention of ruffles for this section.
Coming in close behind ruffles are BR’s cashmere blend sweaters, which are available in a wide array of colors. This is a brilliant move on their part — you get the softness of cashmere for under $100. The fabric mix comes in either a crewneck or a v-neck for $70. This versatile turtleneck ($80) is also getting great reviews. From the sale section I’m also getting plenty of wear out of the Bold Stripe Dolman Tee (now $23).
Equally delightful is the Scalloped Pink Silk Blouse ($98), which I must warn is more than slightly sheer. I love the soft feel of the Micro-Stripe Modal Turtleneck ($40) — I did not find the neck to be small as the reviewers did. There’s a crewneck version too, the Micro-Stripe Modal Scoop-Neck Tee ($40), which is cut a little too low to be work-ready for me but great for the weekend.
Some great work options include the Fitted Non-Iron Sateen Shirt ($70), which you’ll want to size up in if you are busty. The Cropped Cable-Knit Pullover (now $70) looks great layered over it. I also like the Pieced Lace Muscle Tank (now $50), the Cross-Vee Tunic Tank (now $70) and the Mixed-Media Muscle Tank (now $30-$43) which are all long, flattering and look great tucked into pencil skirts or layered over pants. And I know you’ll probably think I’m crazy but the High/Low Sleeveless Turtleneck (now $40) pictured above it another work staple of mine right now.
The Coated Mixed-Tweed Sheath (now $140) is another work winner — you’ll want to size up in this one too. The Crepe Flutter Skirt (now $65-$80) and Flutter Skirt (now $65) both have delicate beauty while the Sloan-Fit Burgundy Pencil Skirt (now $50) is a modern take on the pencil skirt.
On to Banana’s second promo. Right now you can save 50% on select styles using the code BRSAVE at checkout. This promo cannot be combined with any other promo.
Topping my picks for this 50% off promo is the Ruffle Cross-Front Tee ($50), a cute casual tee that is available in 4 colors. Equally pretty is the Dot Chiffon Layered Blouse ($88) and the most versatile option might be the White Silk High/Low Blouse ($90) which I own and love.
From the dresses that are 50% off, I’m intrigued by both the Mixed-Media Vee Sheath ($165) and the Sloan-Fit Faux-Leather Trim Sheath ($150) even though neither has great reviews. In crazy but possibly awesome, the Cotton Moto Cocoon Coat ($298) looks so cool!
I can’t resist highlighting a few items that are excluded from the promos, just because they are so pretty! I’m rather in love with the Shirred Silk Dress ($158) above. This taupe version is 100% silk; there is also a polyester version in a pretty pale blue for $138. I love how the dress is shown with the black rose Damsel D’Orsay Pumps ($128) which I own and wear quite a bit. (This is the bag.) It’s an interesting color combo. Another dress I really like is this fun, flirty flare dress from the Monogram collection which would be great for holiday parties both work and fun.
There are some cute tops that are sadly excluded as well, like the BR Monogram Silk Tux Shirt ($98), the Crepe Flounce Blouse ($88) and the Crepe Asymmetrical Ruffle Tank ($70). Maybe these items will be included in future promos?
I’m filling up my shopping cart with a few goodies from these promos — how about you?
