2015 Holiday Gift Guide: A modern take on Polaroids

Can you believe there are only 31 shopping days til Hanukkah??! Where the heck has 2015 gone? Today marks the kickoff of EA’s 2015 Holiday Guide which like everything else here will be published irregularly until the holidays arrive. Gifts for her, gifts for him, gifts for pup and gifts for host/hostess will all be covered…

Back when I was in high school and college, there wasn’t a single party that went by without me (and many of my friends) taking photo after photo of our hijinks — leading to some pretty hilarious photo albums. These days of course everything is digital and I’d handed off the photo responsibilities to people more talented than me…

That is of course, until the joy of Polaroids was modernized for the digital age. Photo taker, meet Fujifilm Instax Share Smartphone Printer ($143). This little device is amazing. It connects to your smartphone (it’s definitely iPhone and Android compatible, not sure about other phones) wirelessly if you’d like to print out cute, Polaroid-like photos. Suddenly taking a zillion photos of parties, get-togethers, pretty much anything is fun again! And not just for Instagram porn!

I love to rotate the photos displayed in my apartment often and this photo printer has been the best excuse to do so ever. I’ve also purchased it as a gift for several of my friends — friends who are pregnant or just about to have a baby (I may be spoiling the surprise for a few of them reading right now, oops!), friends who are true photographers who can use them as insta-business cards, friends who love to take photos, relatives heading off to college or in late high school…the list goes on and on. That this printer is smartphone-capable makes it ideal for so many people, who doesn’t have a smartphone these days?

It’s so much fun to print out a photo of, say, my cute dog and me, and then include it with a handwritten letter to a friend who lives far away. Or to send to my parents. Or just to have on display in my office at work (I use this frame), at home, wherever really. My guy, who is normally not all about photos even digs this printer.

One more cool thing about this printer — companies are making really fun film for it too. I’ve seen film where instead of the plain white border Polaroid lovers know it’s stars, stained glass and candy pop, or various fun patterns. And of course there is the standard film with the white border too.

The printer is available via Amazon and Urban Outfitters, though the price is higher at the latter. Urban Outfitters also has some cool accessories, like the photo clips shown above, a vertical option, a medallion clip set, a copper mobile,  There are also frames galore — a monogram frame, a glitter frame, an ornament for your Christmas tree frame, a double-paned glass display frame, a single-paned glass display frame.

Get your photo on.
