Cruising the sale, Part I

October may as well be renamed Friends & Family month for retailers! These promos are a stellar way to grab fall items for a discount if you don’t want to wait til they hit sale (which usually happens after I’d want to wear the items anyway).

My want list is long and fun to share so I’m going to dip into a few of the sales happening right now! First up, Shopbop. Their Friends & Family promo is on now through October 15, 2015 — take 25% off your order using the code INTHEFAM25 at checkout.

Inside, a few of my favorite picks…

I have been waiting for exactly this kind of promo to pick up the fuzzy-fronted sweater you see above from Alice + Olivia. I’ll be wearing it with my new closet favorite leather midi skirt from Banana Republic and these pumps in the white metallic.

The sweater runs a little large (a small worked best for me whereas I usually take a medium), is boxy and slightly cropped. It looks great with the skirt! And would with any black midi. Or a pencil skirt — — perhaps this Bailey 44 leather-trimmed skirt which should look quite familiar to Anthro fans? Or jeans as shown in the product shot.

Ear decoration I can get behind.

Another thing I’ve been waiting for a promo on is Elizabeth & James’s jewelry, which I adore. In particular I’ve been lusting after a few pairs of their ear crawler earrings, like the snakey pair above. I also really like these double stars, these thin pipes and these beautiful half-moons. It’s the small form factor and delicate qualities that really do it for me.

Of course E&J doesn’t have the market on ear crawlers cornered. There are some more ethereal options I love, like this leaf crawler, this larger cluster crawler (so pretty) or these beautiful interwoven crawlers. I also totally dig these zig-zag crawlers and this less-adorned pair, which remind me of lightning bolts.

Work-ready goodness from 10 Crosby Derek Lam.

The last thing I look over during a promo such as this is my work-ready shopping list, where this 10 Crosby Derek Lam dress has had me drooling since August. The back may not quite be work-appropriate in some offices but my current client is very fashion forward and mostly casual, and I feel that a dress like this perfectly straddles the line of showing where I want to be and being super fun. (Speaking of Derek Lam, I’m also totally obsessed with this backback. Yummy!)

You can’t talk about work dresses without mentioning a classic brand like Diane von Furstenberg. This pink dress is sure to work in any office. What office wouldn’t be brightened up by bubblegum pink in the winter? Then there is this slightly fuzzy turtleneck frock, which I suppose brings this post full circle. All things fuzzy and warm for me this year, it seems.

Do you plan to shop Shopbop’s Friends & Family sale?
