Recently: Bought and Loved

A fantastic fall dress for work and party-play. (The shoes are getting good reviews too.)

Aside from wanting what feels like nearly everything at Anthropologie right now, a few other retailers are helping to fill up my Fall 2015 closet.

Inside, some of the things I’ve purchased recently that I love and highly recommend…

One of my favorite work dresses in awhile.

Topping this post is a festive frock from J.Crew Factory, the Gold Floral Jacquard Dress ($98). This is a reissue of a $300+ J.Crew retail collection dress from last year and while the material isn’t quite the same and the Factory version is a bit shorter, I’m delighted by the dress! It’s fully lined, sparkly without being overly so, appropriately floofy in the skirt. My usual size 6 is a delight, aside from being a little smooshy across the chest.

Over in J.Crew retail-land I have to mention one more time how much I love the Ruffle-Hem Dress in Italian Wool Crepe ($188). I’m delighted that ruffles are making a comeback, especially when deployed in such a lovely way as this! I bought this dress in a 6 and the fit-and-flare skims me perfectly, though shapewear underneath may be a good idea. There’s also the Ruffled-Front Sheath Dress in Super 120s Wool, which is now on sale for $140 (with an extra 30% off using the code DAYTWO at checkout) in limited sizes and colors. Check that one out on me in this post.

Comfy heels? Check.

Once you’ve got the pretty dresses, the next step is shoes. As I’ve become more and more of a runner I’ve noticed that my ability to tolerate uncomfortable heels is plummeting. Oftentimes wearing an insole (this is my favorite) or arch petals (love these) can help, but I’m still on the hunt to replace some of my less comfortable pumps with better options.

During my last trip to California, which seems like ages ago now, I had an opportunity to try on the Boni Pumps ($110) by Ivanka Trump at the Nordstrom at the Grove in LA. These pumps are very impressive! They have a 3-inch heel, which is so hard to find these days, and the fall from heel to toe is gentle, making them super comfy compared to the steep fall some of my other shoes with taller heels have. The pointy toe has a bit of softness to it so it’s not too extreme.

I finally bought these heels about two weeks ago. While I love this floral print shown above I decided to start with pairs that are a little more basic, so I went with the black leather and the white metallic. The latter looks so good with jeans of any wash, making it a very versatile option.

That floral pair though…maybe for next Spring when I make my triumphant return to Paris. The other shoes I’ve liked recently come from Banana Republic, where this pair of D’Orsays and these pumps (both on promo right now!) have gotten several mentions on the blog already. Full disclosure though: both pairs of pumps required some break-in time to become comfy. Doing chores around the apartment probably looked weird and annoyed my downstairs neighbors but this is the price we pay to look good sometimes, right?

Cooler than a regular coat. I love capes!

This lovely cape above has actually been in my closet since last winter and I’m surprised and delighted to see it back in stock at Nordstrom. I own this pale grey color and wear it all the time in chillier weather over a heavy sweater or sometimes even over another coat. It also comes in a black color that is currently sold out.

The pricetag is a total steal too — I don’t know how Nordstrom has this cape for half the price Bloomingdales does, but whatever! Far be it from me to get upset about a deal. Especially when the other cape I’m really admiring right now is $1,000.

The chicest leather skirt I’ve seen yet.

And finally I do want to give another shout-out to this beautiful leather midi from Banana Republic. I know a couple of community members have bought it too since I first mentioned it last week, and we all agree it’s such a beautiful piece for the price. I plan to wear mine with this fuzzy sweater and the white metallic Boni pumps mentioned further up in this post.
