Racked explores why it’s so fun to wander through an Anthropologie store over and over and over again

Racked, those intrepid reporters on all things shopping, have given Anthropologie a lovely in-depth feature about how Anthro’s ‘intoxicating in-store experience’ comes together. What’s the secret formula for hours of browsing success? A lot of visual design talent, a guiding light from the home office and a few more keys all detailed in the article. (I can’t very well give it all away here!)

Back in 2007 the web boutique I was working for relocated from Manhattan’s Union Square to the Flatiron district…just blocks away from the 5th Avenue Anthropologie. I used to wile away many a lunch break not eating but instead wandering through rack after rack of the store, obsessing over bedding layouts and pondering which dress would come home with me when my next paycheck arrived.

When my next job brought me down to Soho (and my relationship relocated me to Wall St), the West Broadway Soho Anthropologie became my lunch break home, so much so that my company’s owner and CEO used to tease me if I didn’t come back to the office with an Anthropologie shopping bag. There’s just always been something about the store that feels like an adventure…from the way the displays and racks and windows update regularly to the very smell of the place. As far as shopping goes, it is my idea of heaven.

Racked’s feature digs in to how Anthropologie goes about accomplishing this, and though there is a little PR slather in there it’s an excellent look behind the curtain and I love it! Give it a read and share your thoughts here or on Racked’s site.
