Is Anthropologie finally opening in Hawaii?

There aren’t many states left without an Anthropologie store. Among the few remaining No Anthro Zones is Hawaii, which has long puzzled me. I visit Hawaii every other year and before I make my way to whichever island we’re staying on I head to Anthropologie to do some pre-Island shopping. It’s a no-brainer! Yet none of the Hawaiian islands themselves has an Anthropologie store.

That could be changing.

According to Pacific Business News, Anthropologie is looking at a third-floor space in Honolulu’s Ala Moana Shopping Center, a huge mall about 20 minutes from the Waikiki strip on the island of Oahu. From a shopping perspective, Honolulu is Hawaii’s largest city with a large university, diverse family population and home to the biggest airport of all the islands. It’s not unusual for my Hawaiian getaways to start with a layover on Oahu, often long enough to visit this mall to kill some time.

The mall is already home to stores this Anthro lover loves, like Miu Miu, Tory Burch, a specialty J.Crew store called J.Crew-on-the-island, Burberry and Diane von Fursternberg. There’s also a generously-sized Nordstrom. I’m sure Anthropologie will fit right in! In fact, I asked for this very thing way back in May of 2013. Hooray if it’s true!

I’m also sure that Anthropologie would do well on Maui and I think Kauai is ripe for a Terrain. Baby steps are good. I’d be delighted if my next trip to Oahu included a stop at a jet-setting Anthropologie store! This is one city where all the maxis, flowery flowy tops and short shorts would fit right in.

(And on a side note, I highly recommend visiting Hawaii. I can’t pick a favorite island…maybe Kauai for the surfing and Nā Pali coast. Though I’ve also loved the Big Island, Oahu and Maui very very much. They’re all beautiful and each island is very different.)

What do you say Hawaiians? Or Hawaii visitors? I know we have some in the community! Where else should Anthropologie open a store? I can’t believe they don’t have one in my college town of Fort Collins, CO yet. Or in Danbury, CT near where I grew up.
