Runway to Everyday: Victoria by Victoria Beckham A/W 2013

A downtown prep runway look from Victoria Beckham’s A/W 2013
ready-to-wear presentation at New York Fashion Week.

It’s always possible that a Fashion Week presentation will be over the top. Mostly though it’s a chance for designers to present their wares to buyers and get their product in stores. I never fail to be inspired by outfits on the runway! Sometimes they need a little adjustment to work off the runway, sometimes not. Runway to everyday is about translating runway looks to an everyday outfit.

This time around I have a less strict interpretation of the runway look. Consider the choices inside more of an “inspired-by” collection.

EVERYDAY LOOK 1
(click the photo to see a larger version)
1 – Old Navy Sweater // 2 – French Connection Shell // 3 – Cole Haan Purse // 4 – Fossil Purse //
5 – LOFT Skirt // 6 – RSVP Mary Janes via Zappos // 7 – Ivanka Trump Mary Janes via Zappos //
8 – Ray-Ban Sunnies // 9 – Kate Spade Bracelet Watch

For the first everyday option, I took some of the main thoughts from the Victoria by Victoria Beckham runway look: grey crewneck sweater; top with sheen and texture, simple black bottom. Though the V by VB look is a dress over a sweater I found it easier to build the everyday look based on separates.

This everyday look could easily go straight from the office to the after-work festivities, whatever they may be. It’s certainly the more city chic of my two everyday ideas in this post. Somehow, I think it needs one more element. I’m thinking a headband perhaps? Something like this one, this one or this one.

The runway look inspired another everyday look, one that’s way more out there. I love to play with outfits and this one below certainly reaches.

EVERYDAY LOOK 2

4 – Express Mini Skirt // 5 – Ava & Aiden Pumps via Gilt // 6 – Coach Bag // 7 – Tory Burch Bag

Once again my inspiration was the main thoughts from the Victoria by Victoria Beckham runway look: crewneck sweater; top with texture, simple bottom. Yes, that is a fringe top starring in this look. Yes, that top is insane. And I love it! This is the brave dresser’s spring interpretation of the runway look. In the runway look you have a metallic sheen top with strong stripes. In this everyday look you have a textured top with equally bold stripes.

The palette is very spring-ready: blush, white, powder blue. Choose a midi skirt or a mini skirt (the latter being closer to the proportions of the runway look while the former is a 2014 Spring trend). Choose the bag that’s a splurge from Tory Burch or a relative steal from Coach.

This is another series I’m trying out this week! (Lunch Break will be back, I’m rotating series to keep things fresh.) I’d love to know your thoughts! You can see older Runway to Everyday looks over on my tumblr to get an idea of what this series will bring.
