Anthropologie wants us to read its lips

Anthropologie’s beauty collections have mostly been collaborations up til now (I’m still in love with the Le Labo concrete parfum going on a year after they were unveiled!). Slowly but surely though Anthro is stirring up the in-house magic and creating beauty items of its own.

Their latest creation is Albeit, a line of lipsticks meant to evoke a bit of retro glam from a high-shine pout. At $18, these bullets are more expensive than your neighborhood drug store but far below the cost commanded by designer brands.

Right now there are six colors to choose from, all delivering a gloss finish. Anthro says that lipstick is a woman’s greatest accessory — do you agree? I’m not really big on lipsticks, I usually just get whatever my friends the beauty mavens recommended. All summer I’ve been rocking Revlon’s Colorstay Lip Butter in peach parfait and Tutti Fruiti. At $7 I can’t complain about the coverage. (I usually have to re-apply twice a day.) But my lipstick loves are truly the Tom Ford colors, which are matte and boisterous and just plan amazing. I own three shades: vanilla suede, casablanca and true coral. But at $48 those are more a special treat than a regular purchase.

I’ll give these new Anthro lippies a try. I am interested in trying a dramatic red, and vermillion seems like it might hit that on the money. Have you seen Albeit in your local Anthropologie? Will you give it a shot?
