Investigating Anthropologie’s latest new arrivals

In this outfit: Peplum Ponte Tank ($78, review coming this week!),
a mystery skirt and the Furina Mary-Janes ($100).

Although there’s no new catalogue to pore over, there are enough new arrivals on Anthropologie’s website that I felt justified in creating a dedicated post. I am very curious to hear what the community thinks about the fall items that continue to trickle in. I’ll start with my thoughts.

Though there is a fun outfits set illustrating black & white combos the photo above somehow escaped the collection. Too bad because I adore it! The Furina Mary-Janes ($100) originally bowed in turquoise and I wasn’t too excited about them but I love this taupe version shown above. I own a pair of Miu Mius that must have inspired these shoes, though the python heel is certainly a twist. I’m not sure how to feel about the curved heel…but I would like to try these on to get an idea.

The skirt in the photo above is adorable! It’s not online yet but I will update this post once it is. I can only hope it doesn’t fall into an alarming trend I see…

…because: This. Is. Bullshit. With all due respect to the petites in the community, I’m alarmed and angry by the sheer number of skirts under 20 inches suddenly flooding Anthropologie’s site. In fact none of the skirts here even clears 18 inches. Why not make a petite version that’s 17.5 inches? Why not give us the knee-length skirts we want? Even if I could rock skirts this short (which I cannot) it’s not like they’d be work-appropriate. I’d love to know what the thought process was here because these blow my mind.

On the dress front, the Painted Ikat Dress ($158) immediately caught my eye. Of course it’s strapless but the neckline looks promisingly high. Although turquoise and orange work well together, I can’t help but wish a different secondary color had been chosen. Could you imagine if this was all blue hues, with the turquoise kept as the primary color and splashes of cobalt and sky blue to punch it up? Or perhaps cream instead of the orange. I can’t put my finger on why but this dress jumps one step too far for me.

One dress that does seem work-appropriate to me is Sariah Carson’s Shadowbird Shift ($168). Is it just me or is this a remake of the Sea Nettle Shift? I’m not upset if it is — I’m still hunting the original down for a good price on eBay.

If you’re wondering why retailers are so quickly jumping to fall, Anthropologie shows it still yearns for summer with the adorable Boucle Racerback Shift ($198). I like the youthful vibe and simple, flattering shape of this dress. I can only hope it’s this cute in real life! There are those Furina Mary-Janes ($100) again. Those aren’t the only new shoe arrivals I’m pining for.

Schuler & Sons’ Studded Strap Booties ($258) have just the right mix of femininity and toughness in a beautiful warm brown tone. I’m a little concerned about the sole view which seems to show a lot of ugly, ugly cork but I’m optimistic these boots will be a great fall/winter pickup. There is competition for my boot affections though, started by the Hortulan Booties ($168) last month and continuing with…

…the Bordeaux-Ruffled Oxford Heels ($168), which I simply like to call drool. The heel may look a little scary but with the 1/2 inch platform these are like wearing 3.5 inch heels. I have so far resisted oxfords but this may be the pair that makes me cave in.

Those are just a few of the new arrivals I like — did anything new catch your eye? What do you think about the prevalence of mini skirts? Or the continued lack of work-appropriate gear? Does the pretty overcome that?
