Guest Post: Eye Candy: The Anthro-inspired garden by Karen

Note: While I was on vacation the community helped me fill in with guest posts! I’ve got a few more to run while I’m catching up. This guest post is written by Karen.

Yeah! I’m so excited that Roxy has allowed me to do this guest post! Since Spring is just around the corner, I thought that I’d share some quick and easy ideas on how to spruce up your garden with thrift store finds, or things you probably already have around the house.

I’m a Master Gardener, which basically means that I’ve received extensive training on plants, their native habitats, how to care for them and help them flourish.  I’m lucky to have a rather large garden by California standards, as well as great weather and lots of sunshine year-round.  In addition to the many different varieties of plants, flora and fauna in my yard, I also love to include random objects among the garden to add interest and texture.

As much time as I love to spend perusing the racks and shelves at Anthropologie, I spend equal time scouting “junk” and treasure at thrift stores.  In particular I love to look for pretty glassware, vintage ashtrays, plates, vases and what-nots, to stack into eye catching garden totems and birdbaths!

You can stack as high as you dare, and place somewhere that the light will be sure to catch your shiny treasure. I didn’t secure the one’s pictured, but once you are certain of your arrangement you can permanently secure it with some E-6000 bonding glue that can be purchased from Michael’s, Hobby Lobby or a hardware store.  An easy birdbath can be made by stacking a heavy glass vase, glass or porcelain plate, another vase, plate, and a glass punch bowl or basin. Just learn from my mistake and keep it away from clumsy running dogs, and place it where only the birds can enjoy!

So, as soon as the weather allows, get outside, plant some flowers and create some Anthro like charm for your garden! Enjoy!
