Guest Post: Closet Confessions of an Anthro Employee

Note: While I am on vacation the community is helping keep EA live! This guest post is written by Sarah of little yellow apple.

Hi there Effortless Anthropologie readers. I’m Sarah, from little yellow apple and while Roxy is enjoying the Parisian life I thought I would entertain you guys with a post for the day.

For some it’s their shoes, for others it’s their housewares. For me it’s their dresses. To me Anthropologie is the infinite supplier of cute dresses. Over the top, squeal in your loudest voice, buy it right now (even though you have no place to possibly wear it) cute dresses. I was lucky enough to be an employee of Anthropologie for a period of time too. For a little over a year I was surrounded by a beautiful store, inspirational decor, and of course beyond amazing clothes. And while being surrounded by at least 10 things you want at any given time it’s hard not to cave in, and buy something every week once in awhile. My weakness was the dresses. Before I started working there I owned 5 Anthro dresses, all bought on sale, and by my last day I owned 15. It was like a sickness. We’d get new product, I’d walk by said coveted dress of the moment about twenty times, before breaking down and trying it on during my lunch break. I’d usually fall in love with it, take about 30 seconds to calculate what it would cost with my discount, and then rationalize why I needed it. Other times I’d be working the cash register and someone would return an older dress that was now at a good sale price. I mean how could I pass up a beautiful dress, in my size, that had a tempting price tag? The answer is I couldn’t. That’s how I ended up with the Silver Cloud and Traced Twirls dresses.
I don’t usually like to think of myself as a predictable dresser, but when I see just my dresses from Anthropologie lined up together I see some common characteristics almost all of them have. The must haves: pockets, straps wide enough to wear a regular bra with, and a tie at the waist. I wouldn’t have thought that until I pulled them all out to look at side by side, but 7 out of the 15 have a tied waist. I realize that the ribbon or belt accessory at the waist is a common Anthro way of styling their dresses, but I guess half the time that’s what I’m going for. Perhaps it’s the girlie-ness in me that I love to accentuate my feminine shape or I gravitate towards things with a bows on them.
So there you have it. An Anthroholic with a dress addiction. I guess it could be worse, right? Below is a collage of some of my favorite dresses that Anthro has stocked right now as well as stock pictures of all the dresses I own. I hope you’ve enjoyed a peek into my closet and to see more of my style come visit me over on my blog little yellow apple. I’d love to see you there!
