Flash sites. Coupon code exchanges. Apps for your phone. In just a few short years, the way we shop has changed dramatically. In 2012 the emerging theme is social shopping — sharing deals, sites, items, whatever with your friends. (Hey, we already do it here as a community!) As a geek who loves playing with the latest and greatest I’m always on the hunt for the next cool shopping tool.
I get approached about doing giveaways on EA regularly and reject most of the offers. But when the folks at sneakpeeq contacted me I thought their tool is a good fit for the community here. The company is still young but growing at a rapid rate, and they’ve got a great idea in-hand.
Here’s how sneakpeeq works: each day a limited number of deals are posted in the sneakpeeq app on Facebook. Much like you would at a store or on a store’s website, you browse through the items. When you see something you like you can take a “peeq” at the price and decide whether you want to buy the item or not. It’s like flipping over a tag at a store or when a site (i.e. Amazon) asks you to add an item to your cart to see the low price. Share items you like with friends via Facebook and take a look at other friends’ ‘peeqs’ for the day to see if anything catches your fancy.
What separates sneakpeeq from, say, Gilt, is that you can earn credits just for actions. So each time you “peeq” you get 5 points. Like an item and get 10 points. Keep earning points and you can run yourself up to the top of the leaderboard and convert those points into credits or extra discounts. All this without buying anything.
As the userbase for sneakpeeq grows they’ll be able to get more brands on board, which means more shopping options and better deals for the users. Could you imagine if Anthropologie was on an app like this? Maybe today the Pieced Column Dress would be 20% off to capitalize on all the blogger reviews yesterday. We’d see the dress listed in the sneakpeeq app and I know I’d certainly like that! Then it would show up in my Facebook timeline for the community to see. It’s a very cool idea that adds another level to social shopping. I go shopping with my friends. I send my friends a link to a product. I post an item I purchased to my Facebook timeline, etc.

I have high hopes for this app and look forward to seeing what the community finds! As the brand partnerships with sneakpeeq continue to develop I envision an app where we’ll see special deals on our favorite stores sooner rather than later. There are 600+ brands now and that number will only grow!!
