Live chat: Anthropologie’s Keith Johnson!

Anthropologie continues their website chat series with Art & Antiques buyer Keith Johnson this Thursday. For fans of Anthro’s store displays, furniture and curiosities this is the perfect opportunity to ask how they pick those amusing animal canvases, those curious elephant watering cans or those impressive store displays. I’m not sure how many of the stores Mr. Johnson helps plan visually but I know he’s involved with the NYC store layouts. Right now they look amazing. The furniture-as-display pieces are particularly delightful right now at Soho and Chelsea Market — in fact, I think Chelsea Market is the most beautiful store I’ve ever been in. Walking through it evokes early last-century India. Kudos to the visual teams at both stores.

The website chat with Mr. Johnson will be this Thursday (10/13) at 1 PM ET on Anthropologie’s website.

In other Anthro news, many community members mentioned varying degrees of free shipping/discounted shipping/flat rate shipping in the sale post yesterday. Since I didn’t have a chance to address it in the comments I’ll mention it here. Late last year Anthropologie engaged a marketing company that among other things helps conduct tests on the website. So without even realizing it many of us are probably seeing different graphics or special promotions or a featured product that are all part of these tests. Likely the different shipping promos you encountered are part of that. If there is a community-wide promotion like free shipping  the Anthro blogging community will be on top of it. As of now I don’t know of any USA free shipping promos sadly. Personally I still think that shipping should always be free for anthro members but so far that feedback has fallen of deaf ears.

And finally, just a quick note that I am once again running way behind on answering community emails and cutting through my review shots. My poor dead laptop came back to me fixed a couple of days ago and now it’s like I broke a bone and I’m going through physical therapy — I have to copy all of my data, photos, etc onto my new hard drive, reinstall all my programs (except of course for Adobe who wants me to rebuy everything, jerks), and re-teach my laptop all the shortcuts and tricks it had learned in a year with me. It’s such a bummer because I’m constantly reminding my clients at work to back up their data and though I did the same it turns out my backups weren’t as complete as I thought. Lesson learned! So as I catch up to where I was two weeks ago posts are gonna be a little slow. Apologies, and I’ll be back up-to-date soon!
