OOTD twins: Snowscape Tank

Ever felt like you had a style twin? Someone who owns many of the same items you do and seems to wear them around the same time? That’s just how I feel about Anjali, the wonderful and stylish mind behind goldenmeans. After more than a year of joking about it we got our project management minds in gear and picked 5 items we both own to showcase in OOTD looks. We each stuck to our own style and the goal here is to illustrate how one item can fit into two different styles. One new OOTD twin outfit will run from now through Thursday, alternating between Effortless Anthro and goldenmeans. This collaboration joins similar features in the community like Little Girl, Big Closet‘s Friends in High Places series and the Traveling Mullany feature on In Pursuit of Pretty Things.

Day 3: The Snowscape Tank.

The Snowscape Tank has sometimes made me scratch my head a bit — the beautiful white color and its very name make you long to pull it out during winter, and yet as a thin silk tank, there’s no way to wear it without a sweater on top that would sadly cover up and lay bulkily atop the beautiful embellished neckline that makes it so special in the first place.  How to style it then?  Initially I was stumped, but then I observed the trick that many other bloggers seem to have figured out: simply pull the embellished bib portion over one’s sweater, thereby showcasing tank’s dazzling detailing and helping one keep warm at the same time.  Brilliant!  I shamelessly copy this idea from the community every time I wear the blouse.

For today’s styling, I tried to honor the “snowscape” in the tank’s name by pairing it with another cool wintry color, spearmint.  This J.Crew cardigan is an old staple of mine, while the matching mint heels are a new addition that I treated myself to during last month’s Kate Spade’s Friends & Family sale.  These are my sixth pair of Kate Spade heels and my third in the Karolina style — I love the classic and timeless shape, the incredible comfort, and the amazing rainbow array of hues they are offered in.  I would own every color if I could.  A dusting of shine and sparkle around the waist, neck and hair finished off the look and gave it a somewhat ice princess feel.  The black tights were worn as a matter of convenience; if I had to do it over again I might have worn a softer choice like grey or lavender instead, but I’m still not completely opposed to the grounding that the black gives the look.

To my own surprise, the Snowscape Tank has been one of my winter staples. I really thought the neckline would make it too dressy for work. On the contrary it’s helped me keep things casual by its own dressy nature — I can pair it with casual items and the result is still a couple of notches up. I’ve previously showcased it in looks in this OOTD post and this one. In both looks I had the tank on top so that this pretty silk thing could be displayed in full glory. But like Anjali I’ve seen lots of our fellow bloggers showing only the bib and decided to give that styling a shot.

I decided to tuck the tank under a sweater. It works very well with the Pinafore Pullover! This sweater fits like a dream once I sized up to a large for length. It’s big but I like it. I feel totally comfortable in this outfit, from my button-and-pleated overlayer to the peaks and valleys of the tank to my (comfortably!) wedged feet. I owe the shoe find to the wonderful J over at The Look For Less. I’d been dying over a pair of $800+ Chloe boots when she posted about these lookalikes from Go Jane. They are just like the real thing. I had the Go Jane boot on my right foot and the Chloe boot on my left and not one of my friends nor the store clerk could guess which one was which. An awesome buy for $800 less? Yes please! Now I just need tan laces to complete the transformation. Go Jane has since sold out, but Charlotte Russe has them now and you can buy them via the link in my outfit notes below.
