OOTD: Shorts beyond summer

Two quick notes: If you’re a J.Crew lover, I have a guest review up over on Gigi’s Gone Shopping today. Stop by and say hello to one of my favorite bloggie gals. Also if you’re going to be at either the J.Crew or Anthropologie holiday parties in NYC tonite I will be too! Come up and say hi — I’d love to meet some community members. 🙂

I have said it before: tights and shorts make me happy. I’m so glad the trend has stuck around for another year! The weather in NYC has been mid-50s for the past couple of weeks which is pretty much perfect for this kind of look. This outfit showcases a complete look — I topped my outfit with an Old Navy cropped peacoat from a couple of years ago and my Parker bag from Ruehl No. 925. I miss Ruehl! Their bags are amazing. I scour eBay for them.

J.Crew’s cashmere has been touch and go for me the last few years but their Shawl Popover ($188) has been a go-to item for me for about 4 years now. The first one I bought was orange. Then brown (which I sadly lost on a train somewhere between the city and East Norwalk, CT). Then blue last year, and now bronzed olive this year.  I love that it’s long, I love that it’s got a thick neckline, I love that it’s thin but warm. I hate that it’s really hard to photograph though. The lighting in my living room seems to show all the wrinkles, lumps and bumps.

Since it’s still fall I chose chino shorts. But another outfit I have coming up has tweed shorts for the colder weather. The key to this look, believe it or not, is shorter shorts. You want shorts that hit mid-thigh. Anything longer will throw off proportions on all but the model-thin among us. Since my legs are thicker I keep the color dark on the bottom, but for a fashion forward challenge cream tights would look amazing! Do you rock shorts and tights in the cool weather?
