Reviews: Summer’s Reminder Cardigan, Oleander Cardigan, Herringbone Sweater Jacket, Breezy Polkas Cardigan, Van Wrinkle Sweater plus your help needed!

The clothes are great — but I’d happily take the saddle!
(Anthro’s equestrian theme is really making me miss New England.)

I look forward to Sleeping on Snow’s embellished sweater every fall. I love my Wildflower Cardigan and Armana Jasmine Sweater so much. The brand really caught my eye back around the time of the Dove’s Flight Sweatercoat, and I love their thick sweaters like the Cable Cluster Cardigan and the Run-Run-Run Sweater. Lately their entries have been more boiled wool than thick and warm. That trend continues with the Summer’s Remainder Cardigan ($128). It’s worth noting that Anthropologie kept their price consistent year-over-year, bucking their recent trend of jacking up the price $10 or $20 from the year before. This pleased me. The material is OK, not especially thick or warm.

I chose to try on the ivory version, knowing it would photograph better. This is a medium, my true size. The aster is affixed beautifully to the sweater and the pattern is reminiscent of old city carousels to me. The fit? Was off. Sadly. Anytime there’s a hint of flare to Anthro’s sweaters I am doomed. While the waist hit me at the right spot (yay!) the flare below was not at all flattering. I felt very wide in this sweater. Something about the neckline isn’t quite right either. I felt rather dumpy in this sweater. It was a big disappointment and this sweater is a sure pass for me.

Guinevere’s Oleander Cardigan ($98) is too darling for words. I just love the red stitching down the front and the confectionery buttons adorning the placket. It’s almost too cute if that makes any sense. My friend with me declared it a perfect fit for Emma from “Glee,” which I can neither confirm nor deny since I have never seen the show. (I know, I’m a pop culture failure.) Besides, I don’t like to think of clothing as belonging to anyone else. I like to keep the illusion that Anthropologie is a little-known store.

I reached for my true size medium for the try-on. That was unfortunately a mistake as the buttons were pulling across my chest. A large would be more appropriate. There’s zero itch factor, a welcome fact. The lace panel across the top is approaching sheer — why Anthro, why?? — but otherwise I found this sweater to be perfection. It’s thinner material but nice and warm without being stuffy. The bracelet sleeves are an excellent design choice. And did I mention the super-cute buttons? What’s black and white and wishlisted? This cardigan.

After shaking off the disappointment of the Summer’s Reminder Cardigan, would Sleeping on Snow fare any better with its Herringbone Sweater Jacket ($118)? Yep. I could be misremembering but I think I saw a darker version of this coat in-store in addition to the brown version I tried on.

I tried on a medium, which again was a size too small. I should have tried a large. The fit wasn’t so much the problem as the length. The medium felt too short and as a result it looked small on me. The medium felt great on, though the waist is a bit problematic for me. I think anyone with a larger chest is going to find the waist pulling up to empire heights as I did. (I’m a 34D.) That aside, I love the oversized collar which drapes down like a tuxedo jacket. The nips and tucks lend a lot of visual interest, and the subtle herringbone pattern is beautiful. The buttons are great — large but not distracting.

It’s not itchy at all, my main concern. I swoon for this jacket. I think the value is there for the price so it’s worth full price to me. I expect to bring this one home soon.

I can’t believe I hadn’t reviewed this cardigan with an identity crisis yet! It’s the Breezy Polkas Cardigan ($98), neĆ© the Breezy Ride Cardigan. Betsy gave this one a shot in a guest review several months ago, and while I’ve been admiring it since I guess I hadn’t actually tried it on. After adoring the Polyvore set above from struman, I decided to give the outfit a shot.

I couldn’t find a yellow tank to go underneath so I swapped in the Haphazard Lines Tank (now $40), which I found true to size but not entirely convincing. The cardigan was just as fun as I’d hoped though. The bow was perfect, and while the material felt a bit thin it makes it the ideal fall cardigan. The top is sheer for reasons unknown but the blue tone at least lends itself better to hiding a bra strap. I bought this one hoping to get a PA…sadly the window has already passed and it is not yet on sale. You win again, Anthro!

The Easy Keeper Skirt ($128) gets a full review tomorrow.

As promised earlier this week in my review, I tried a fitting room outfit with the Button Parade Blouse ($78). I’ll have a full review of Sanctuary’s delightful Hay Ride Shorts ($88) tomorrow. This paragraph and its subsequent sister is devoted to the Van Wrinkle Sweater ($118) by Moth.

I’d tried on its earlier solid cousin and hated it. Proving that appearance is key, I was much happier with this dotted version whose ruffles had been properly ruffled. I can’t tell if this is a case of a sweater being so ugly it’s pretty or if I’ve just lost all sartorial sensibility. Either way, I really loved this honey and poo mix. I’m enamored with the catalogue shot of it over the Tweedy Leaves Dress ($158, review here) and shamelessly plan to copy the look.

This sweater is not soft but not itchy either. My usual size medium fit well. There are buttons to close the sweater and a hook-and-eye closure to the ruffle, meaning there are several different ways to style this cardigan. Much appreciated, Anthro! I like the thin ribbing at the bottom, which helps the bottom third of the sweater stretch without widening the dots. Someone paid close attention to the fit here and it’s awesome. That’s two sweaters in this review set where the fit was truly nailed. That’s what I expect from Anthro. When they do right by me like this I will buy at full price. This sweater is in my cart as we speak!

Finally, I need some help finding an item!! I’m not one to normally kowtow to celebrity style, but I cannot resist this drape-collar jacket worn by Taylor Swift in Paris earlier this week. It’s by Rick Owens and sadly out of my price range, but Rosa from Love at First Shop wore a terrific k/o from Forever 21 earlier this week. I scoured all of the NYC F21s but was unable to find the leatherette jacket. I’m turning to the community in hopes that one of you can help me locate this jacket! I am looking for a large. Note that there is a similar jacket at F21 that has sweatshirt sleeves; I am looking for the all leatherette version. If anyone spots this and would be willing to buy/ship it to me I would be forever thankful! It’s $40 in-store and not currently online.
