Hi fellow Anthro lovers! Going on a vacation this summer (like the one Roxy is currently on)? Here are some looks I put together themed by location! Worried about packing any of these items? Don’t be! Here’s a tip that’s saved me countless headaches (and ironing): if you must fold anything, lay tissue paper on top of it first (so that the tissue ends up folded inside it). And, if you can, roll items burrito-style, instead of folding. This worked like a charm when packing my silk floor-length formal dress for my cruise – no wrinkles!
Thanks to my husband, Brian, for help in the photography department, Roxy, for hosting my post, and the Woodlands, TX, Anthropologie for letting us monopolize a dressing room for 2 hours. 😉
On to the pictures!
What better way to start (or end) a vacation than in the Air Mail Skirt (now $50), showing off stamps from all your travels? Here I’ve paired the skirt with Odille’s Dewpoint Blouse in green, as well as the Bette Flats ($80) in off-white. Flats are great for the airport, because you can just slip them on and off at security, and the light and airy skirt will be comfy whether you’re going first class, or sitting back in coach.
If you’re heading to London, instead of getting one of these…
Why not put together a Union Jack tribute of your own?
I’m actually heading to London for the first time this summer, so this picture is mostly imagination. I paired the Two-Wheeler Dress ($128) with the Wheatfields Belt ($48) in red. I don’t think the Wheatfields Belt is available anymore, but if you’re looking for a similar belt, try the Cylindrical Braid Belt ($34). I again used the Bette Flats, to bring in the white – blue dress, red belt, white (well, off white shoes). God save the queen!
From London, hop on a train through the Chunnel, and you’re in Paris! Paris has long been famous for fashion, and Parisians are known for their style. Perhaps the most famous French fashion icon was Queen Marie Antoinette. I channeled the royal style icon for this look. The Fallings Fleur Top ($58) in pink reminded me of the soft pastels the Queen was fond of, and she loved flowers. I paired it with the Lingering Rays Skirt ($98), which is slightly gilded, like everything around Marie Antoinette was. Over the top I put the Hanami Cropped Jacket ($88) by Daughters of the Liberation – it’s slightly pink-hued, and set off the top beautifully. I also bought the cutest pavé bow post earrings at my local Anthro that make another perfect Marie Antoinette style accent, though I couldn’t find them online. (This photo is at Versailles, in a lovely suite of rooms called La Printemps — spring).
Rome is near the balmy Mediterranean, so it gets really warm in the summer – it’s in your interests to pack light and stay cool. Take a cue from ancient statuary: flowing toga-style tops and dresses will keep you breezy while still being classically chic. Here I paired the Graces Tank ($48) in ivory with the Trading Post Crops ($88) in green. To complete the Roman look, strap on some gladiator sandals! (This photo is the Trevi Fountain).
If you’re going on a cruise, you’re in luck – nautical style is hot this summer! The Vappu Dress ($98, roxy’s review here) is a great pick for a cruise in either color. Here I use the navy colorway. This sort of dress is great for a cruise because you can wear it all day on a shore excursion, and still be okay for the semi-formal dinner that evening – just put on a cardi and some heels with it! A rope style belt would be another fabulous nautical accessory. (This photo is on board Celebrity’s Millennium, sailing into Venice).
I’ve never been to Mexico, either, so this picture is imaginary, too. Mexican-style folksy embroidery and patterns paired with breezy natural fabrics equal one comfy fiesta. The Crystallized Threads Blouse ($98) pairs quaint patterning with sequins and embroidery for a gorgeous, easy to wear piece. I paired it with my Raleigh Drawstring Crops in khaki from last year, but this top would also go great with the Trading Post Crops ($88) from above. I paired it with my strappy Lisbon sandals ($40) by Rocket Dog.
That’s it for my travelogue! Hopefully these looks inspire you ladies on your vacation adventures!

I love the backgrounds!!! Great looks and VERY creative way to display them!
I love this post! I absolutely love the Marie Antoinette inspired outfit; my style tends to not be that feminine but the layered pale colors and textures were simply gorgeous combined together!
Very creative post. I like your styling ideas too.
Elise, this was a lovely post. I particularly loved the London post! I've just caught the Seychelles bug and I never actually got to see the ivory version of the Bette flats, I got the nude ones, but now I might need those too!Let me know if you want any tips for London!
Way too cute – I love all the outfits you put together, and how you whisked them off to beautiful locals – too fun!
Such a fun, creative and stylish post! You are adorable and look fantabulous in all the outfits. Thank you for all the hard work – I really enjoyed this!
I loved this post! How cute and creative!
Too cute! I really enjoyed reading it!
Elise, you are too cute! Not to soun creepy, but I'm fairly certain ive ran into you before when I was still working at Anthro 😡
Cute, cute, cute!
Elise, this was awesome! It made me look at pieces that I wouldnt have usually. It was so cute that you did the backgrounds 🙂
What a great idea for a post! I shop at The Woodlands store sometimes, too! The ladies working there are so nice!
Great travel outfit suggestions! You've convinced me to wear my Air Mail Skirt when I fly to California next week 🙂
Very creative post!
lol, thank all of you ladies! I feel like a star! :D@Lauren, it's not creepy, lol, I think I might remember you too. :)@Carly, thanks so much! I'm a graduate student in Literature, so it's always nice to hear that.@Debbie I love to put bright colors together. One of my favorite outfits is the oooold Viola Strike-A-Chord skirt that's bright green with pianos and music on it, with a goldenrod-yellow Cambric Tea Blouse (also old) by Fei.@triciathomas Most of the backgrounds are photos I took myself; only London and Mexico are photos I dug up. I did have to photoshop myself out of the cruise photo (wearing something else) to put the new outfit in, lol.@Jen, I loved that outfit too. Even my husband liked it, which is really saying something. I actually came home with the Fallings Fleur Tank and the other two items are wishlisted for sale. 🙂 I think the Queen would've liked it too, what with satiny ruffles, chiffon flowers, lace, and her favorite pastels. :)@British Anthropologiest — thanks so much! Tips on where to eat in London would be really helpful! I've got the Seychelles bug too! I love my off-white Bette flats so much, I really want to get both the other colors, lol. Right now that's a bit cost-prohibitive.@Natalye, ditto! Some of the things I put together, even I wouldn't normally have looked at, or maybe glanced over in the store. But they just went so well together!@Lola, The Airmail Skirt is one of my favorite pieces in a long time. When I first saw it, it just screamed "vacation" to me!Thanks again all you lovely ladies for your support!
This post made me smile…kind of like the roaming gnome in Amelie (but you're much cuter than a gnome, Elise)!
Elise, I could be totally and utterly completely wrong. But I remember a girl who very, very, VERY much looks like you coming in one night with her hubby to buy the Monochromatic Corset dress, on sale, the last one, and the girl was wearing a very unique anthro hat that I had never seen before. It could totally have not been you.
Elise: Email me! I can give you a bunch of reccommendations!British Anthropologiest at gmail.com
@ Lauren, OMG that was totally me. The grey hat with the purple flower on the side, with the kind of jaunty brim? I remember that! 😀
@maryw2062, I LOVE that movie! 🙂 That's kinda what gave me the idea for photoshopping myself into the backgrounds, lol.
Elise – YESSS!!! That exact hat! That's TOO funny! Okay, now I don't feel so crazy! It's a small Anthro world after all 😀
love the different creative outfits w/ the various background! i've been looking for a coat similar to what the woman is wearing in the title photo with the Eiffel tower background…do you know where i can get something like that? thanks in advance.
Adorable post! I love your ideas for Anthro around the world. The Two-Wheeler dress is totally perfect for London. I'm definitely packing it for my annual trip there. 🙂
