The weekend in-store community post

Note: I will run new posts over the weekend but continue to have this post on top of the blog to encourage participation.

I have noticed a lot of community members sharing in-store deals and spots in the comments of various posts. Inspired by the weekly Seek & Find posts started by the lovely Alexis over at J.Crew Aficionada, I think now is a good time to start a similar weekly post here.

This post is for community members to trade information. You can ask for help in finding an item, report back on what you saw in-store at your local Anthro, ask general questions, make a request, or just stop by to say hello. I love how helpful this community can be!

Some FAQs….
– What does “sub” mean?
It means that people are subscribing to the comment thread. You can do this by checking the “send follow-up comments to x email address” box in the comment form.
– Someone in the comments said they wanted to buy an item from me, but it’s been x hours and I haven’t heard squat. What should I do?
I give people 24 hours for the benefit of the doubt. After that move on to the next person that contacted you.
– Someone said they returned an item at the store 20 minutes ago but I just called the store and it’s gone. What gives?!?
A store associate might have taken a fancy to it or a customer might have grabbed it. Maybe it’s just at the bottom of a big ol’pile. Unfortunately, you’re out of luck.

Hey everyone! This is slightly OT, but I needed some advice so thought I'd turn to you lovely ladies. Has anyone ever had a pair of peep-toe shoes that are too big but that you can't part with? If so, what can I use to get them to fit me properly? I've tried in-soles, but you can see them peeping through the toe part. There is a lot of extra room in these shoes, but I just can't bear to return them. Any ideas? Thanks ladies!

Hey Carly, They are called heel grippers. You can put them in the back of your shoe to prevent them from slipping off your feet. I found some at the Dollar Store for a $1 of course. You can also get them pretty much anywhere, like Target, Walmart, or a shoe store. If you combine them with some of the Dr. Scholl's high heel in-soles, they hide pretty well in peep toes, then you should be able to wear them no problem.

Hey ladies, question–Is there any way to delete a bunch of items from your online wishlist at once? Mine is over 150 items because I just keep adding to it, and the page loads soooo slowly. I want to get rid of all the old stuff, but I don't have the patience to hit remove one-by-one and wait 15 seconds for the page to load again. Is there a more effective way to select and delete? Thanks!

Carly,I have narrow feet, and shoe stores almost NEVER carry narrows. So what I do, especially for peep toes, is get these things called Foot Petals. They have some called (I believe) Heavenly Heelz which you can put in the back of the heel to keep it from slipping (they are about 1.5" wide). But you can also use Heavenly Heelz in the toe part, too, if your peep toes are wide enough. If not, they also make a Foot Petals size called Strappy Strips that are less than 1/2" wide, and are made for strappy sandals and slingbacks. Lastly, they also make a whole-shoe insole, I forget what they are called, but they stop at the ball of the foot (and are thus not visible under the toes in a peep toe shoe). They are kind of pricey, but you can get value packs that come with several different sizes. Or, the same brand, Foot Petals, has a cheaper line called Fab Feet you can find at Target. I like Foot Petals/Fab Feet because they're made of this foam stuff that breathes really well and doesn't get all grody like the gel inserts do.If you still need more to make the shoes fit, you can get the Dr. Scholls Air-Pillo insoles (they have a double-thick version that I use for shoes that I *really* need help on) and they can be cut to fit any shoe, so you can trim them so they stop under the ball of the foot and you can't see them from the peep toe.I hope this helps!

I secondthe Foot Petals recs. I put the Heavenly Heelz in theback of all my shoes. It stops the rubbing and my foot from shifting around. I also use the inserts for the sole (not sure of the name) in my ballet flats to provide me more padding. For those who are interested, I saw several sizes of the Curvy Sgift last night at the Tucson Anthro. Also, my husband is returning a size 14 State Fair dress (the one by Maeve) this afternoon, so if you call this evening it will be available.

It had a handwritten tag for 99.95…or 99 and something cents! If you really want the dress, maybe call again with the details? I have a general question… has anyone called a store for a sale item that was sold out online but they had in stock and was then charged for shipping? I did this twice last week for 3 items… 2 in Soho and 1 in Denver. The Soho associate was really nice and told me that they weren't going to charge shipping and that they would use the tax rate of the state they were shipping to, which was 0%. But Denver charged both their tax and added over $10 in shipping that they never even mentioned when I asked for the total! Can I call the store for a refund?Kim

Birthday discount question: Oh, sweet ladies, would you tell me if you can use your birthday discount card at multiple stores (on the same day, of course), or will they take the card from me? I'm planning out my Tuesday!

  90. May 15, 2010 / 2:01 pm

Helenna – it will be online too.Kim – Denver (Cherry Creek) has hit me for shipping every time too on charge/sends. They are not supposed to charge if the order is being mailed over 100 miles but consistently they do. I asked them about it in-person onetime during one of my trips and they insisted it was policy. So, I don't think you'll have much luck calling them for a refund. Sorry. 🙁

  91. May 15, 2010 / 2:03 pm

Kathleen – You're only supposed to be able to use the birthday discount once at one store. However when I used mine a couple of items I wanted weren't in-stock, so the store manager was nice enough to call CS on my behalf to make sure I got the discount over the phone. I have also heard of people putting items on hold at one Anthro, and then having the manager from another one call the first Anthro so they can get a discount at both (hopefully that sentence made sense).

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I also tried calling CS and they said that they were sold out in all the stores…. but from past experience with this community, I've realized that even if they say that, it's not always really the case. So, my fingers are crossed!

  94. May 15, 2010 / 2:10 pm

It's really odd to hear these different "rules" regarding shipping and charge sends. I can tell you that when I worked there (and this was the case for every store in my city) the policy was very simple – shipping charges and tax (at the rate of the destination state, but some states that don't charge taxes, in our binder had a tax rate to be charged) were supposed to be charged if the customer called you directly for the item. If a store called you – no shipping, and fairly certain no taxes. That's it. That was the single determining factor. If a customer called themselves, though, they weren't always charged shipping because the shipping and tax are an additional step in the transaction, and the SA would sometimes forget. I have no idea where all these "over 100 miles" policies, not available online anymore, etc. Etc. Rules are coming from. And Kathleen – they do take your card. When you use it. Make it has to all be on one transaction, and make sure you bring your anthro card with you. Happy birthday!

  95. May 15, 2010 / 2:12 pm

Lauren – thanks as always for the (former) employee take! 🙂 On my charge/send receipts there is usually a line item dedicated to shipping. I have seen two variations: <100 and >100. I think that is where that part of the discussion is coming from. It is great to hear your insight though since I've never worked for Anthro.

  96. May 15, 2010 / 2:14 pm

I just got a pair of boots from a store (across the country) and they didn't charge me shipping or tax (which I was VERY excited about. Not that long ago I ordered something from a store that is about 150 miles away and they wanted to charge shipping but when I had the SA ask the manager about it, the SA was told they didn't have to.I think it just depends on the store/SA you get when you call.

  99. May 15, 2010 / 2:37 pm

Roxy – Whatever I say could have of course changed! And I'm definitely interested in these rules now because hey, I'm a customer, who OFTEN has to track down items and get them via charge send. There is definitely a rule that had to do with 100 miles, but I can't recall what it is. It definitely isn't "if the customer is over 100 miles away, no taxes" and definitely no free shipping. The ONLY thing that is ringing a bell is that if the customer lives under 100 miles away, regardless of if they called or another store called, we *had* to charge them shipping. I could be wrong on that, but I know for sure shipping and taxes applied over 100 miles (if the customer called in). I really am interested though if there is more to the "official" policy than what I've been saying here, considering there seems to be such a disconnect among so many people.Although Anon/Kim, reading your comment, if you ordered 2 items from the same store, you should have only been charged $5.95 in shipping, unless you expedited? Or they were 2 very big/heavy items??

  100. May 15, 2010 / 3:47 pm

I'm still in search for the fragrant valley dress in a size 14. CS says they are sold out everywhere but if anybody spots one can you put in on hold under Yvonne and email me atyvonne(dot)squires(at)gmail(dot)comthank you in advance

Also trying to find the blooming lattice cardi in navy in a size xl.

  102. May 15, 2010 / 4:20 pm

I've done many charge/sends, usually through a store although not always. The only time I was charged shipping was for having boots shipped from TX to OH and the receipt said something about > 100 mi. I didn't care though, because I had finally tracked down my gorgeous Grand Exit Boots (this was before I knew about wonderful blogs like this and I was all on my lonesome!) and I was just thrilled to finally get them for under $300!!

  103. May 15, 2010 / 4:35 pm

Completely OT, but I'm really excited about a beauty product deal I found and thought some of you might be interested. And, yes, I'm really vain…..Generic Latisse, $10 per bottle. Also Generic Retin-A, under $10 per tube (I've paid over $100-not covered by insurance.)alldaychemist.comI have no affiliation. Don't remember how I stumbled on this, but I have been using both for two days now, no bad side effects so far. You don't need a prescription. Only catch is shipping is flat rate $25, so stock up or go in with a friend. It ships from India, but products and website look legit. It arrived i about a week. And as I said, I'm very vain…..

  104. May 15, 2010 / 5:22 pm

hey ladies, just my 2 cents!!i have called many many stores to do charge sends since i live 5+ hours from my states anthropologie and have never been charged shipping (unless my size WASN'T sold out online) and my state's 0% tax rate was applied too! my state's anthro always does this for me and puts a sweet note in too 🙂 the ONLY store who consistently CHARGES shipping (even if the item is sold out online) is STATE ST. CHICAGO!! i don't know why that bothers me so…BUT the last time i called that chicago store for an item and was going to be charged, i said nevermind i will call another store, and the SA sweetly said "oh it was a store who called and found this item for you, so you get free shipping" WHAT??? oh okay!!i just wish the "rules" were consistent, that's all!**VENT OVER** :Dhave a great day ladies, can't wait until sale day ;)♥Meg

  106. May 15, 2010 / 5:46 pm

Alexandra- I recently called CS about the Hidden Hue blouse. They directed me to the Seattle University Store. This store just got in a large shipment of the Hidden Hue Blouses (the SA said they were all shipped there for some reason). I was able to find one, so you might want to give them a try!

Thanks for your input, Roxy and Lauren… I got 2 items from Soho which totaled around $160 and the sales associate told me no shipping charges and no taxes since I live in a state with no sales tax. Then I got a dress from Denver and they charged me $10.95 in shipping and over $6 in taxes! I guess I am just irritated by the inconsistency.Kim

Has anyone seen the collected calico dress in size 12?Thanks in advance

  117. May 15, 2010 / 8:18 pm

I got charged sales tax on something I ordered from CA. While I wasn't charged shipping, my state doesn't have a sales tax on clothing, so looks like I'll be asking for a credit for the amount. I have noticed that there seems to be some confusion when it comes to sales tax. i ordered something for a friend who lives in a state that charges sales tax and when I had to return it in NJ, where there is none on clothing, the SA was a bit confused. It worked out, but I've only been charged shipping once for something and that was from the Chicago State St. store…..LOL

If you want to call, the number is 512.236.9301 – hope you find them! They also had a lot of the green and white beda dresses (again, didn't check sizes) if anyone is still looking.

  141. May 16, 2010 / 6:52 am

I've never been charged for shipping on a charge-send, not from another store here in Texas, or the store we ordered from in California. Well, I say *I* haven't been charged. But it's usually my husband who calls for charge sends (he gets up earlier in the morning, and thus is able to call stores when they open). The girls are usually like "aww, you're calling for your wife, how sweet!" so that may be why they don't charge him shipping. 😉 It's a trick worth trying, for those of you ladies who have a man who's willing to try it for you.

  142. May 16, 2010 / 6:56 am

Also, forgot to ask… is everybody jumping on the Beda dress all of a sudden because we're thinking it's going to go on sale? Or is it too new? I don't even remember when it came out. I know the white's been around a looooong time, but I thought when a new color in an item came around that it was considered an all "new" item, and the lead time for sale was reset (like with the Lift-Off Jacket, which is why I just went ahead and bit the bullet on that one). I didn't think the green Beda dress had been around long enough to hit sale yet, am I wrong? But come ON. Plz my Bougainvillea Cardi and my Air Mail skirt? So I can wear my passport/stamp skirt ON VACATION?

Elise – People are jumping over the green Beda dress because it's a nice looking dress. In addition, CS told me that they are completely sold out of it on line and there will be no restocking on line. So what ever is available is in the stores. And unfortunately, they are selling like "hot cakes" in the stores.

  146. May 16, 2010 / 1:48 pm

In regards to the Beda dress, the Jacksonville, Florida Anthro had a rack full of the green and white. I saw them as of yesterday and I'm pretty sure there was a variety of sizes.

Ooh, I gotcha. I'm personally lusting for the white Beda dress, so I haven't been keeping tabs on the green — guess I'm lucky that the white is still available from sizes 6+ online. I've seen the green in the Woodlands, TX store, but that's been over a week ago… next time I stop in, I'll have to check for all you ladies to see what sizes they've got. And yes, my husband calls stores for me, lol, it's awesome. Thanks to him, I have the Milady Skirt, Pagoda Top, Sweeping Frills Sweater, and Embroidered Thicket Blouse, among other gems. 😉

It's a <a href="http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:-2W8y0EkcvEJ :www.forever21.com/product.asp%3Fcatalog_name%3DFOREVER21%26category_name%3Dacc_handbags_shoulder%26product_id%3D1076180444+Pocket+Front+Shoulder+Bag+forever21&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us" rel="nofollow">Forever 21handbag. It's sold out online but I found in <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/forever-21-xxi-daly-city&quot; rel="nofollow">Daly, CA. I called the store but they don't ship merchandise. I would love to find someone who I could bother and ask if it'd possible to buy the bag for me and I would pay through Paypal. I'd pay some extra for all the trouble or I can do the same if they need help to buy anything in the Seattle area.

Oh, and on my way out I noticed them putting out some new stock. Of note was the In a Twinkling Dress in 2 different color schemes – the top of the dress was white/cream and the bottom of the dress was either navy or golden yellow.
