OOTD: Catching up (and Floral Week!)

(click on any picture to zoom)

Warm weather is here! Wait, it’s gone! Just kidding, it’s back. Is it any wonder that I’m sick right now? In the last two weeks the NYC weather has hit lows of 35 (!!) and highs of 88 (!!!). I was going to say something hyperbolic about the weather but whatever. It’s spring. I’m sure it does some manifestation of this every year. Last year it rained 18 days in June in NYC. Let’s not repeat that, hmm, Mother Nature?

As I mentioned in my review last week I could not resist bringing the Perilla Dress ($128) home with me. To justify the price I wanted to wear it right away but the weather was not cooperating. Luckily this week was much better and I had a chance to wear it out. My iPhone’s camera is completely freaking out at the moment so I broke out my Canon for these shots.

I have to wear a camisole under the dress for work so I went with a warm cognac palette. I have noticed one odd thing about the dress. When I stand, there’s this extra material that gathers around my pelvis area. I’m 100% sure it’s due to the curvature of my thighs but it’s very annoying. Have to learn to ignore it. The dress is going to be one of my go-to pieces this summer. I decided to go with heels for the first time in a bit– I’ve been having a flats moment. It was the first time I’d worn my Wandering Platforms in awhile and I forgot how much I love them. Most importantly, this outfit was comfortable to walk to work in.

Marianne emailed me and asked if I could show what a full outfit looks like when I walk out of the house. That’s what the far right photo is. Sunglasses are your best friend in a city. They are a lifesaver for checking out hot guys, avoiding scary people on the subway and looking cool walking up the street. The bag is from Foley + Corinna. I bought it at a sample sale a few weeks ago and for the life of me I cannot figure out the style name. It’s a shoulder bag with two metal handles, a zipper on one size and it’s a beautiful dark brown color. It’s not the Mid City Tote, that’s all I know for sure. If any bag experts out there know the style name please let me know!

This outfit is my favorite kind — a mix of old and new. I waited patiently for the Sailing Hobbyist Skirt (now $40) to go on sale. As a reward for holding out I picked up both the navy and the pink. In fact come to think of it every component of this outfit was snagged on sale. That’s unusual for me and worth celebrating.

I wore this to my management meeting earlier this week and then kind of wished I hadn’t. I did a client visit on Thursday and this would have been perfect. Oh well. I bought the Merino Larkspur Cardigan (now $50) for full price in yellow and grabbed the aqua once it hit sale. What am I going to do when cardigans with smushed crap goes out of style? My Steve Madden flats are on their last leg but I can’t bear to throw them out. I am pretty disappointed with the wear…I bought them last August and they basically lasted one summer. Just happy I got them on sale.

I owe the top portion of this outfit to Chloe. I saw this OOTD on her blog and decided to replicate the look…just in a different shade. She looks fabulous as always. Thanks Chloe for the (continuing) inspiration! I added in some sparkly jewelry to pop off the black crops.

The crops, which sadly, are still too short for me in the long. All I’m looking for is a crop that will hit right above my ankles and has a slightly flared leg. This year that is apparently too much to ask. All there is out there is skinny, skinny and more skinny. Over. It.

One of my friends said I looked like I had a bouquet exploding out of my chest. Thank you!!! I think that’s a pretty good contribution to Have A Cute Day’s Floral Week, no?

In this outfit:
Cardigan: Ann Taylor Flower Trim Cardigan (similar here, here, and here)
Top: Flowers exploding off your chest… Ann Taylor Floral Front Shell (similar here, here and here)
Crops: Old Navy Stretch Capris ($27)

Necklace: J.Crew Taj Mahal Necklace (similar here, here and here)
Ring: J.Crew Cluster Ring (similar here, here and the original J.Crew knocked off here)

Casual time! My White Sands Wedges (now $180) came in record time. Kudos to Anthropologie’s shipping which is getting better. Still not on Zappos’ level but two days is permissible, especially when I’m paying $16 just to get my items shipped. (Yes, I’m bitter.)

The wedges are great. Comfortable right away and with enough room for my ankles. My true size 9 was a good fit. I have a high arch and the top of my foot does hang a bit over the vamp but it does in most shoes so that’s nothing to knock this particular one for. We’re going to go from long shorts in this look to short in the next look.

I’m not sure what it is about my Tivoli Scoopneck. I like it but I’ve never really fallen in love with it. I was quite enamored of it when it first came out last January but once I bought it…I dunno. Every year I prep myself to sell it and then I end up wearing it. My issue is that the shoulders fall down over the course of the day. This year’s Through-The-Clouds Tank ($68) has been much better. Not getting rid of the Tivoli though. Still.

In this outfit:
Top: Tivoli Scoopneck (similar here, here and here)
Shorts: J.Crew 9″ chino shorts (now $42) in antique olive
Shoes: White Sands Wedges (now $180)
Necklace: J.Crew Double Layering Wrap Necklace in lilac (similar here, here and here)
Ring: J.Crew Pebble Ring (similar here, here and here)

Some days in NYC it’s too hot to wear anything besides shorts. I have this discussion with one of my friends every year. She’s pro-skirt — I am too! — but when it gets close to 90 I switch to shorts. We just had one such day. It was miserably humid too. Scares me for August…

All we did was go to the park and plant ourselves under the shade. Another blog shoutout is due. I have been in love with Stuart Weitzman’s Alex Espadrilles for awhile now but the $365 price tag leaves something to be desired. Enter J and her awesome blog The Look 4 Less. She mentioned these very close approximations and I immediately ordered them. They were here in UNDER 24 hours (take that, Anthro!) and they’re fabulous. Comfy from the get-go though I’m not gonna lie, the heel is intense. I’m used to 4″ heels but if you’re not this wedge is going to be tough to get used to. It was a little shocking just how metallic they are but it’s on-trend so I can live with it. I would still love to get my paws on the Weitzmans. For now these are great though.

Also wanted to mention that the shorts/tank were part of a BIRTHDAY order from J.Crew. That was a code J.Crew released exclusively to J.Crew Aficionadas as part of Alexis’s two year blogiversary celebration. How cool is that? 15% off AND free shipping. Alexis rocks.

In this outfit:
Top: J.Crew Tissue ruffle tank ($40) in Moroccan spice
Shorts: J.Crew 5″ chino shorts (now $40) in shadow
Necklaces: J.Crew Symphony Necklace in pumpkin/J.Crew Duchess necklace in pale pink (similar here, here and here)
Wedges: Nina Cortney ($100)

…And just like that, back to the work week. Amazing how weekends fly. My goal was to emulate the Winding Lane Top belted look seen on the far left above. (This photo is from an Anthro email last winter.)

Anthro needs to tell me the secret to no wrinkling with belts sometime. And how exactly is the top soooo much longer on the model? Oh right, Photoshop. Either way I like how the look came out so thanks Anthropologie for the idea! I seized the opportunity to wear my beloved Many Moods Skirt. I am going to be so sad when this skirt dies. Which won’t be any time soon by the way. One year later it’s still going very strong. Quality? Yep.

A little bored with all the neutral happening in this look, I threw on the Cloaked Necklace (now $30) for some spring color. The necklace is a mix of matte and glass acrylic beads in green, some of which have been painted white. It was a throw-in item to one of my sale orders and when I first saw it in real life I hated it. But once I started trying it on with outfits I realized how well it complemented much of my closet. So it became a keeper. Happens that way sometimes.

I alluded to this at the top of the post but the weather has been back and forth for the past couple of weeks. Earlier this week it was so cold that I was able to break out the tights again — yes! I love tights so much. I’d wear them year-round if I could. Since it is spring I decided that some pink was in order. I started with the Conch Shell Pencil skirt and went from there.

The pink and green is pretty daring for me. I got the nod of approval though from my bud Janelle the Stylist — capital ‘S’ — so I felt good about the look. The tights are a steely dark grey. I felt bad for every gal with bare legs that morning. It was 40 degrees outside. I am so lucky to have enough closet space to keep my clothes year-round. At my last place I had to store off-season items and if I still lived there I would have been bare-legged too. Brr.

I have spoken of my love for the Conch Shell Pencil Skirt, so just to reiterate it’s awesome. This is the skirt that introduced me to Leifsdottir and never shall we part. Though always shall we watch for sales. The shell underneath is from Banana Republic and it’s old. I couldn’t find a product photo for it so I used something comparable. Mine is closer to lavender than the Talbots’ one. You get the idea hopefully.

Am I the only one who owns the Blooming Lattice Cardigan in green? I’ve seen it in navy around the community but not the green. Just curious.

I haven't seen the green Blooming Lattice Cardigan on any other bloggers, but it looks great on you! I tried that one on initially (I ended up buying the navy) because I loved the green on the hanger, but when I got it on it did nothing for me 🙁

  2. May 22, 2010 / 2:04 pm

I love each and every outfit! You were on fire this week! My favorite is the look with the black capris. I haven't seen the Green Lattice cardigan on bloggers, either! Ots such a pretty shade of green.

I really love the Perilla dress on you and that last outfit is fabulous. I have been wanting the Stuart Weitzman Alex espadrilles for a while too! I'm thinking about actually getting them (and selling a bunch of stuff to make up for it) :)flnw.blogspot.com

Ahh! I love the conch shell pencil skirt. It makes me sad that around the time I was going through a non-athro phases (could there be such a thing?)It looks wonderful especially with the blooming lattice which is on my sale wish list. Great outfits!!

  7. May 22, 2010 / 3:17 pm

Love all your all your outfits and the Perilla dress is my favorite. So flattering on you. I saw the J.crew tissue ruffle tank the other day but didn't give it much notice, until now. It looks fabulous on you. I'll have to take a second look.

Love this weeks outfits Roxy! The last is my fav, great color combo. I want that lattice cardi in green so bad but I'm trying to wait for sale *pouts*

  9. May 22, 2010 / 3:34 pm

Hey Roxy, The OOTD is one of my favorite features. I love anthropologie but since I work in a traditional office enviroment I need to find a way to tone down the whimsy. Your looks are a great starting point.

  10. May 22, 2010 / 4:17 pm

I love the black capri outfit- that Ann Taylor cardigan is gorgeous. And I have always admired the wandering platforms! Now I have to ask the trading community if they can find some for me!

  11. May 22, 2010 / 4:19 pm

Roxy, all of your OOTDs were great, but I LOVE the Perilla Dress on you, and it's fabulous with that jacket, cami, and bag!!! You look so amazing!!! I hope you wear that outfit over and over again. It's my absolute favorite among many stand-out Roxy-Outfits so far! (And it makes me want to give the Perilla a try…)

  12. May 22, 2010 / 4:37 pm

Great outfits! As a fellow tall/long legged person, have you tried the Cafe Capris from J.Crew for cropped pants? They're the only ones I've found so far that work for me. They've gone to online only this year, but my store has assured me that as far as they know there are no plans to get rid of them. Might be worth a try.

  13. May 22, 2010 / 5:18 pm

So many beautiful outfits! I think my favorites are the Perilla look and the Ann Taylor layered rosettes/florals! You are adorable!

  14. May 22, 2010 / 6:48 pm

Roxy: as usual love your stylings. Yes, the weather in the NYC metro area has been crazy, but as long as it doesn't rain everyday I can deal with it. Last spring it just rained everyday and the summer, well, what summer? Didn't get to 85 till August and then Pouf! Can you tell that I am bitter?Anyway, I was torn about the green vs. navy Blooming Lattice Cardi and opted for the Navy. If my sizeis still around when it goes on sale, wouldn't mind getting the green. Green is one of my favorite colors, but I was lacking a navy cardi. My last comment is that I have that same cardigan and blouse from AT. I've noticed that you and I seem to like alot of the same stuff that is not Anthro, so that made me laugh.P.S. Loved the Perilla set especially! Haven't worn mine yet.

  15. May 22, 2010 / 7:09 pm

I own the Blooming Lattice in green and LOVE it! Looks so beautiful with the conch skirt and the purple- and you know, I wore mine with purple as well! Pretty outfits Roxy and love when you share them!

  16. May 22, 2010 / 7:42 pm

I'm new to your blog, but it's so much fun! Your outfits are adorable, and I think we have a similar body shape – I'm also tall and have trouble with lengths. My favorite is the first one with the cute dress or the funky green cardigan with the purple top. The color combos look amazing. I adore the blooming lattice cardigan, but it looks like it's not available anymore 🙁

You are too cute Roxy! I would wear every single one of your outfits as I love them all!

  18. May 23, 2010 / 2:34 am

That Perilla dress paired with the jcrew jacket is fabulous! I also love the rust tank with navy short. Your pink and green outfit is beautiful. I didn't know NY weather could be so cold and hot in matter of few days. I'm in the West coast. 😀

  19. May 23, 2010 / 5:31 am

LOVE the outfit with the black crops!I'll second KB's recommendation for the J. Crew crops, and/or the J. Crew Minnie Pant – perfectly ankle skimming, slim and 'Audrey' fitting, without being skin tight skinny.I own the green blooming lattice cardi – I, too, already have a couple of navy cardis. I like it with my Orla Keily Beanstalk dress, as well as my (older) Stone & Cloud Skirt.

  20. May 23, 2010 / 5:56 am

Love the blue shorts, orange top and lovely brown wedges combo! Such a great, put together summer look1

Sara – why thank you! I have loved your outfits with the navy version, it was part of my inspiration to make sure mine made it in this round. 🙂 Pamela – I love the green too, it's a nice kelly that is a bit lighter than the From-the-Green cardi (which I also own, hee).Celine – I am losing patience for the SWs to go on sale. It's been over a year! If you do get them I will have to live vicariously through you. :)ali – LOL. I talked myself into the green since I already have a couple of navy camis, but truth be told I already have a few green ones too.Cat – haha, thanks!!KimSiomkos – thanks much. A non-Anthro phase? What is this thing you speak of? ;)Cleo – the Perilla is made of win. And so is that ruffle tank from J.Crew, definitely worth a second shot.Shannon – yet another item that is apparently never hitting sale.Kimberly – I'm glad these are useful for you. 🙂 Robin – good luck! I will keep my eye out for them too.Carol – hee, I wear that jacket all the time in spring because it's just the right weight to fight off the morning breezes around here.KB – hmm, I have not but based on your recommendation I will give them a shot!Jesspgh – thank you. :)Bronzi – LOL, I am on that bitter train with you. I think it is very cool that our style overlaps. DEA – haha, I love that we both paired ours with purple!JanAlyssa – hmm odd, it does seem to be sold out online at the moment but the NYC Anthros still have a bunch in stock. If you end up needing help finding one make sure you post in the Weekend Community post!Athena – thank you!! That is such a lovely compliment. :Djcrewphd – ha, funny thing is I didn't know either! Patti – great to hear another vote that way. I tried the Minnies and while they were comfy I didn't like how unbalanced I felt in the hip area vs. the rest of my legs. Krameymartin – can't wait to wear it again. 😉

  22. May 23, 2010 / 5:52 pm

Roxy-I have the green blooming lattice too. LOVE. I tried both colors, and the green spoke to me on more levels than the navy. Love your outfits this week. my faves: the stuart weitzman knock-off outfit with the burnt orange top and the White Sands wedges outfits. Easy casual, but both SO pulled together. Glad to see a review on those wedges cause they've been on my wish list. thanks!

  23. May 23, 2010 / 7:00 pm

I own the green blooming lattice cardi. My husband wanted me to get it. I showed him the navy, but he thought the green was so much more fun! I don't have my own blog, but I have posted a weekly reader outfit on Kim's blog and plan on submitting another one soon with this cardi. My favorite outfits on you this week are the ones with the Perilla dress and the Blooming Lattice, of course!

  24. May 23, 2010 / 8:31 pm

Beautiful outfits as always! I really am digging that Perila dress. Next time I'm at Anthro I will try that one on. A nice jersey dress like that one is hard to come by. It has great detailing. Thanks for all your hard work on your blog….I don't know how you do it all. You are amazing! Have a great weekend!

  25. May 24, 2010 / 12:23 am

Ok Roxy…YOU ARE BEATTIFUL!If I were a man, I would have fall hard for you already by now. The first outfit is stunning! The hair, the smile, the post!Dont freak out by my comment. But I really think you are beautiful : )

  26. May 24, 2010 / 12:41 am

Wow Roxy, I love that outfit with the Green Blooming Lattice Cardigan – amazing!!! I also adore the Perilla Dress on you – it's so incredibly flattering on you! Looking good lady 🙂
