OOTD: The last two weeks

I know, I know, it’s not Sunday. I didn’t get a chance to run my normal OOTD post this past weekend though because of Easter so I hope you don’t mind me breaking convention to run this post today. I was still in Passover “diet” mode on Easter too; I hate years when the two overlap! I visited my parents the weekend before though and my mom made charoset from our family recipe. I had some left on Easter so I brought it to my get-together and it was a huge hit! Take that, bunny. Hope you had a nice holiday whichever camp you fall into.

I was all excited a couple of weeks ago as I coyly thought to myself “Oh, I’m totally wearing my Rare Bloom Tee because no one has mentioned it in awhile!” And then of course Anjali did her OOTD with it before me. She and I have been outfit component twins recently which is so weird because it’s not like we shop at the same stores or anything. I get really excited though when I see her wearing the same thing as me on the same day! For reference, see my nerdy comment in this post.

An admission: I was a skeptic of the Scalloped Dots Skirt until I owned it. Now I can’t get enough of the thing! I have to stop myself from wearing it every week. Sizing up really did the trick on the length for me.

In this outfit:
Top: Rare Bloom Tee (now $30)
Skirt: Scalloped Dots Skirt (similar here, here, here and here)
Shoes: Nine West Naughty Flats ($60)
Necklace: J.Crew double-wrap layering necklace in gold/lilac (similar here, here and here)

I mentioned in my Twirling Peony Blouse ($88) review that I had a crazy idea on how to style it. Here it is! Basically I just threw a navy tee shirt on underneath it. I’ve been seeing this done a lot lately with strapless dresses. I know it’s an 80s retread but I love it! I can wear strapless tops! And dresses! With a supportive bra!!! Praised be the trends. No one at work even noticed that I was wearing two shirts…then again I work for an Internet company that is 80% male engineers.

This outfit has not one but two new pieces in it. The other recent buy are the Back & Forth Slingbacks (now $80, cached link) shown in the far right shot. These Schuler & Sons shoes are amazing! Open toe oxford wedges with multiple cutouts. Never thought I’d approve of that hybrid. I had to size up to a 10 for the best fit. I bought them at full price from the San Francisco Anthropologie via a charge send.

In this outfit:
Top: Twirling Peony Blouse ($88)
Top Part II: H&M tee shirt
Skirt: Many Moods Skirt (similar here, here and here)
Tights: Gap chevron tights (similar here)
Shoes: Back & Forth Slingbacks (now $80)

I can’t believe I’ve never included this outfit in one of my OOTD sets before as it’s one of my cold-weather go-to looks. Glad I got it in before this crazy 88-degree weather we’re having right now in New York City. I got the blouse at Zara and it’s the coolest blouse I own. I love the slightly poufy shoulder and the little accent band below. It also has perfectly executed seaming down the front and back. Fits better than any other blouse I’ve ever owned. I will be so sad when I wear it out.

I went to school for journalism initially before modifying my major. I imagine this is what a newspaper editor would have worn mid-20th century. Is it odd to say I feel like the female J. Jonah Jameson in this look? I used to work right behind The Daily Bugle — err, the Flatiron Building. Maybe that’s where the feeling comes from.

In this outfit:
Sweater: Zara (similar here and here)
Blouse: Zara (similar here, here, here and here)
Skirt: Gap Denim Straight Skirt (similar here, here and here)
Tights: Hue Opaque Tights ($13) in black
Shoes: Nine West Naughty Flats ($60)
Necklace: Radiant Necklace (now $30)

I bought this sweet wool Twinkle by Wenlan jumper off Gilt Groupe a few weeks ago and even though it’s more February than late March I couldn’t resist wearing it on a cold day last week. I threw a floral blouse under it to make it more spring-appropriate. Can’t lie; I was sweating bullets the entire day.

The jumper also gave me the chance to rock my silver Steve Madden pumps. And that is never a bad thing.

In this outfit:
Jumper: Twinkle by Wenlan (similar here, here and here)
Blouse: J.Crew Floral Fan Placket button-down (here’s a closeup photo, similar here and here)
Tights: Hue Opaque Tights ($13) in black
Shoes: Steve Madden skorrch in dark pewter (similar here, here and here)

I adore the sunburst pattern on this Topshop top. I am depressed to admit how much I paid for it though considering the quality is on par with H&M. Hopefully it lasts forever so my cost per wear will come down considerably. I get emails asking if Topshop is worth the trip during an NYC visit. No. It’s not. (Says the hypocrite.) They are ridiculously overpriced.

Let’s move on to the awesomeness that is the Percussive Cardigan ($78). It was part of my birthday haul but is currently my go-to cardi. I love the way it falls! I had debated which color to get and I wish I’d bought the green because it’s the only color that has sold out. I hope to pick up the blue once this hits sale. There’s also a tan/blue stripe version in-stores. I can’t say enough great things about the cardi — highly recommended!

In this outfit:
Tank: American Eagle boyfriend layering tank in grey ($15)
Top: Topshop Sunray Vest ($70)
Cardigan: Percussive Cardigan ($78)
Jeans: Gap Long & Lean Jeans ($60)
Necklace: Moonglow Necklace (similar here)

Hi Roxy,Just wanted to say that I love your first outfit! Also, thanks so much for all the dress reviews yesterday. My plan is to wear nothing but dresses all summer long, so I appreciate all the info on Anthro's new releases!

i love the OOTD posts. I think the rare bloom tee with the scalloped dots skirt is my favorite..hmm but then again i really love the peony top with the t-shirt underneath it! That's how I wore my Addy dress recently (although i totally got the idea from an SA at anthro). you're making me want to try and track down that rare bloom blouse

I love the first outfit too! I agree–Topshop is not really worth the visit in terms of buying something. The atmosphere can be a little crazy at times too!

The outfits look great. I love the wool jumper and the black wedges. I just commented to myself this morning I needed a pair of black "summer" shoes for work. I will definately check them out. Is there any way to put a cached link item on your wishlist? I keep getting prompted to sign in after I'm already signed in.sugarandspiceandnice.blogspot.com

Meli22 – great minds! That's all I'm saying.Sarah C – glad they were helpful. 🙂 I will have more in the near future.Naomi's mom – Do it! I love the Rare Bloom Tee and $30 is a steal for it.tres tippy – Amen. The floor to stair/escalator setup in that store is the worst in NYC besides maybe the Wall St 2/3 subway station.JenLynn – hmm, I think you're getting the error because they're sold out online in all sizes at the moment. But a 10 popped back last week so I'm hopeful other sizes will to. What size are you looking for? I can keep an eye on my wishlist for you. (Or you can see mine by searching for my email addy on Anthro's site — it's public.)

Roxy, I love your outfits! That Zara blouse is awesome! I totally want one, now. =) And I really want to try to track down the scalloped dots skirt too…so cute! Thanks for sharing.

Love the third outfit with the Zara blouse and vest. And what a neat idea to layer the shirt underneath the Twirling Peony Blouse! I need to be more adventuresome in my styling like that!

  9. April 8, 2010 / 2:33 pm

I love the last outfit (with the topshop vest) so much so that I might have to snag it myself, and the way you styled the rare bloom tee is great.

Great outfits Roxy! I, like many others, love the first outfit! Also love the Twinkle by Wenlan jumper. 🙂

I love all your outfits, but I particularly love the layering of the strapless top over tee. Genius. I am going to try that soon.

  12. April 8, 2010 / 2:42 pm

I had those back and forth shoes on my wishlist forever and then just saw today they were on sale! I'm gonna try to snag a pair…are they super high heels? Are they comfortable? That was my only concern. Thanks Roxy!

  13. April 8, 2010 / 2:51 pm

Carrie – yes, super comfortable. I have issues with some Anthro shoes but these ones were all-day wearable from the moment I put them on, no break-in period required.

Super cute outfits! I'm particularly loving that journalist-inspired look.Oh, and on a completely unrelated topic, I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that the Beda Dress is now available for purchase online in the kelly green color! I'm going back and forth here trying to decide if I should just order it already (even though I just splurged on a couple sale items on Tuesday =/).

  16. April 8, 2010 / 3:50 pm

I also love how you styled that strapless top: noted.

  17. April 8, 2010 / 4:02 pm

I love the percussive cardigan too! i just picked it up last week in the navy and have already worn it a couple times. It is so comfortable and flattering (I didn't think it would be because of my larger chest)

  18. April 8, 2010 / 5:11 pm

Yay, Roxy outfit posts!! I always enjoy these so much.I am still smiling at us being Rare Bloom (and then Bengal Stripe) twins. You aren't by any chance planning on wearing your Reed Shirtdress today, are you? =)And oh my gosh, that Twinkle by Wenlan jumper is so stinking cute! I love it!! And yay for snagging it at GILT prices and not regular store prices.LOL at the male engineers not noticing anything. I work in a floor of them too, and you are so right…I could come in wearing ANYTHING and it would fly right over their heads…gotta love 'em for that.I've really been thinking of getting the Percussive Cardi lately for covering up during the summer months…now that I see my outfit twin wearing one, I'm extra enabled. I mean, how are we possibly going to end up accidentally wearing the same thing again if I don't get one? 😉

  19. April 9, 2010 / 3:15 am

I'm so glad your OOTDs are back! I love seeing what you wear each day and how you put things together! 🙂

  20. April 9, 2010 / 4:13 am

I really love your outfits. You've got the best jewelry collection! I always find myself lusting after your pieces. And by the way, your eyebrow look phenomenal! I couldn't help but notice.

  21. April 9, 2010 / 2:42 pm

love the topshop top! and how you wore the t-shirt underneath 🙂 reminds me of a catalog…sept 09?…where anthro had a gray shirt under a red strapless dress. i tore that page out telling myself i'd copy it one day 🙂 it looks great on you!
