Playing the Sale guessing game

Ah, it’s Monday night and you know what that means — time to guess which items will go on sale tomorrow. This week, I have to admit I have really high hopes. I would love to see some of the January items start to migrate to sale. There are a TON of items I could splurge on. I have a tax refund in my bank account and yes I will save it but I could be convinced to put part of it towards an Anthropologie order. Especially with Free Shipping. Can’t say for sure which items will and won’t make it so I thought it would be fun to take some educated guesses. This post is no guarantee that any of these items will actually be on sale come tomorrow. What are you hoping to see? What do you think will/won’t go on sale?

I saw the girls at my store today marking down the remaining four lime juice dresses they had. They could have been damadged, but I doubt it. I have a feeling the snow covered fields dress is going on sale also.

I'm REALLY hoping the Vermillion Flurry Blouse goes on sale. PLEASE Anthro!!!

  4. March 1, 2010 / 9:49 pm

I would not mind if the Wright Dress went on sale 🙂

  5. March 1, 2010 / 9:50 pm

On A Wing Blouse would certainly be nice. I'm still undecided on the Vermilion Flurry blouse, but it going on sale might help a lot. And, um, hello, Glasshouse Dress, you've been full price far too long! There's been so many new addition, I hope they put a ton of stuff on sale tomorrow.Of course, my wallet both demands and cries for tomorrow's sales.Free shipping is dangerous. I've already placed two orders! And I am not supposed to be spending money.I can't believe you already got your taxes done. I really should do mine this weekend.

  6. March 1, 2010 / 9:52 pm

I think there's a good chance the Wright Dress will see a mark down–it's quirky, my store has a ton, and it was initially priced too high. I also predict The Night Blooming Dress will go on sale, but be hard to find.

  7. March 1, 2010 / 9:53 pm

Torsade tee would be nice on sale, also the Night Skating tee as I've just ordered/purchased both…Reed Shirtdress would be nice…very nice. But i kind of doubt it as it's been so popular.

  8. March 1, 2010 / 9:54 pm

I'm headed to my anthro tonight…I am most interested in 2nd cuts on some sale items I've been holding out on. The only other things on my wish list right now are new arrivals, and I don't think they will be going on sale quite yet.

  9. March 1, 2010 / 9:56 pm

On a wing blouse and wright dress PLEASE!

  10. March 1, 2010 / 9:58 pm

Also hoping the Fifth Form shift will make it to sale–it's such a good spring/summer basic. And I'm torn about the Lime Juice dress. When it first came out I wishlisted it until a sale because the color is divine. But the tie at the top worries me a bit. I'll probably grab it, though, if it's marked down tomorrow.

Hi! Newbie here, just discovered your blog and I love it! Question: What time of day do things tend to go on sale? (Eastern time?) Morning, afternoon, evening?

  12. March 1, 2010 / 10:04 pm

Crossing fingers for Raveneli Blouse and Wright Dress!

  13. March 1, 2010 / 10:05 pm

Sigh, I personally have my fingers crossed for the Reed Shirtdress and the On-A-Wing Blouse, with maybe a second markdown on the Aster's Everywhere Dress. Agree with you on may of the "About due for a shuffle…" section though, some of those are pretty old!Of course, I should also have my fingers crossed for *nothing* I want going on sale considering the state of my budget, and with Free Shipping I have virtually no resistance, but, you understand 🙂

I'm really, really hoping the Landing Fields Skirt goes on sale. It's from the January catalog and I really, really want it at a sale price!

  19. March 1, 2010 / 10:26 pm

i hope the sundot dress goes on sale soon. it has poor reviews online but it fits well on me for some reason. just curious – why do some ppl post "sub" in their comment?

  20. March 1, 2010 / 10:27 pm

You know what's so weird, I bought the Partly Cloudy top a couple of weeks ago from the Americana Anthropologie in Glendale and IT WAS ALREADY MARKED DOWN to $59! I didn't even realize it was a "new" item since I got it at the sale price! It wasn't until I was browsing the website one day that I saw it FULL PRICE. Weird huh?

  21. March 1, 2010 / 10:33 pm

I just popped into my local Anthro and put something on hold in hopes of a sale and the sales associate told me they are doing "heavy" markdowns tonight. Can't wait to see what gets marked down!

  22. March 1, 2010 / 10:38 pm

GinaBean-I just paid full price for the Partly Cloudy top this weekend. How did you get it on sale? I was hoping it would get marked down tomorrow so I could get a price adjustment.

Just 3 things on my wishlist: Reed Shirtdress, Shoofly Trench and the Wright dress. And a second markdown on the Manisa dress would be nice! Keeping my fingers crossed.P.S. I will be returning a brand new pair of scarf-tied oxfords in size 9 to my local Anthro tomorrow. Email me if you are interested jonaomi at gmail. They are $59.99 at the moment.

  24. March 1, 2010 / 10:40 pm

Doing a major sale dance for the Skybound Button Up (so I can get a PA and keep it guilt free). Anything beyond that and I'm in big trouble – I have a ton of stuff on my wish list and it's not all new either. Eeek!

  25. March 1, 2010 / 10:41 pm

this is so pathetic, but with free shipping, I am totally getting up early to check out any markdowns. It's like Christmas, I swear! My stomach gets in knots as I wait for 10am to then call my local store to have them pull and hold things for me to come in during my lunch hour. No need for anyone to point out the obvious, I know it's a problem! 🙂

  26. March 1, 2010 / 10:43 pm

I wonder if Anthropologie's sales are being hurt by the fact that they take down product pages online. I have a friend who only checks the site when big sale pushes hit (she knows through mah twitter) and if she doesn't see an item online she likes she doesn't go to the store. Since I can't link to sold out items half the time any more I am curious if it's affected their sales among the less hardcore.

Oops – forgot a digit in my email addy. Should read jonaomi2 at gmail!

  28. March 1, 2010 / 10:45 pm

Christine – I have no idea! It was in the sale section marked down i red to $59.99 about a month ago. Maybe it was a mistake? They had several of them too…And when I took it to the register, it rang up as sale price! It wasn't even a situation where it ran up full price and then they adjusted it b/c of the handwritten sale price. So I don't know…I just lucked out I guess! If it does go on sale you should bring it in and get a price adjustment though! I think w/in 14 days they will give you an adjustment. I'll cross my fingers for you that it goes on sale!

  29. March 1, 2010 / 10:47 pm

GinaBean and Christine – individual stores sometimes mark down items if they have a stock surplus. However it's important to note that CS and other stores will NOT match these markdowns. It has to be in the inventory system to get price matched.lavendar – the site sale section updates around 9 AM EST, however individual products are marked down earlier.Lauren T – that means they are subscribing to this comment thread so follow-up comments get emailed directly to them.

  30. March 1, 2010 / 10:50 pm

Roxy — totally agree that making the items redirect to the homepage when sold out is SUCH bad business. But I can't complain too much because, um, more for me when I use the methods posted about here to sneakily get around the redirect. =)As for me, I got paid AND I just finished a hellish Neurobio exam, so you know what that means, Anthroholics: time for shopping! If the tulip slingbacks go on sale, they are /so/ mine. Please, please, pleaaaaase, Anthro, I have been so good.

Roxy @ 5:43I always wonder how much of an impact the recent rise of the Anthro blogging world has on Anthro. Compared to lets say a year ago, how many more calls does CS get now? How many more charge/sends are done? Do sale items in stores now move much faster? And of course, how much have sales picked up?Who knows, to me it seems like we'd make a noticeable impact, but people always think that when they're on the inside. It could all just be small beans, I have no idea what fraction of the Anthro customer base we make up.

  34. March 1, 2010 / 11:11 pm

Anon @ 6:04 – excellent points and questions. I'm sure that overall the blogging community represents a small fraction of Anthro's sales, let's say 2% worldwide for argument's sake. (I personally think we're a bigger proportion but I have delusions of grandeur.) While I'd like to think that we've had a positive influence on Anthro I'm sure we've also incurred some operational expense on their end. I will say this — during their last quarterly call Urban Outfitters' CEO acknowledged the positive effect the blogs have had directly on Anthropologie. He mentioned in the context of the London store opening and cited an English blog, but whatevs I know he TOTALLY has an I heart roxy poster on his office wall. 😉

  35. March 1, 2010 / 11:25 pm

I think the reason why Anthro doesn't have an official blog is because yours does such a good job! I mean, why would they want to pay to have one that maybe people will use, when yours exist and they don't have to put you on their payroll. I bet CEO does have an I <3 Roxy poster on his wall. He better!

  36. March 1, 2010 / 11:28 pm

And…going off of what Tien said, consumers/fans are much more likely to follow a blog like your Roxy….because it's authentic and genuine and has grassroots beginnings….this is the kind of marketing that companies PRAY for and have a hard time duplicating…the minute it becomes official/corporate the less exciting it is! (I'm in marketing so I hear about this all the time. :-))

  37. March 1, 2010 / 11:35 pm

Argh, Tien, your comment sums up the two sides of this blog. On the one hand I love it because I've met so many cool Anthro lovers and I'm not working for Anthro so I can have the damn the man attitude. Plus there's a whole blossoming community of Anthro blogs now, it's like a garden or a forest. On the other hand, I want the employee discount. I shamelessly admit I am still hoping they'll give me one. But you're right, they get the publicity for free so why should they? Boo-urns.

  38. March 1, 2010 / 11:41 pm

Roxy, your comment made me laugh. It would certainly be nice if Anthro gave you some kind of discount, even a friends and family one (although an employee one would be more desirable). I'll keep my fingers crossed for you because I think you certainly deserve it! Your blog encompasses so much, and cover all aspects of Anthro; they really should give you some kind of perk.

Miss Roxy, I think you are a very positive contribution to Anthro :)I can't believe how professionally done and organized this blog is. I love how you touch on a variety of topics on Anthro culture & news. I think the guest review posts are ingenuous (I know other blogs do guest posts, but I haven't seen guest dressing room reviews before), and I love how you've turned the weekend store search/trade market/sales posts into timed weekly staples. You are one masterful chick! I totally agree that you should be getting some kinda discount from Anthro for all this impressive work!

Just wanted to let you know that a community member has already claimed the scarf-tied oxfords. Glad I was able to help.

  42. March 2, 2010 / 12:05 am

Tien & Anon – well thank you both. 🙂 And I should point out that Anthropologie has been quite generous — they invited me to the Spring 2010 Leifsdottir presentation, I got to go to the Anthropologist site's launch party…I could go on. So they've been quite friendly to someone they didn't ask to start to a blog about them. They're a lot better at community aspects than some brands I can think of (J.Crew, I am looking at you!). But I'm digressing into a self pity-party here, sorry ladies.Anon @ 6:55 – I did a review of the Lime Juice Dress here and I know Tien did as well on her blog here. Not sure if other blogs in the Anthro community did reviews as well, I don't remember Kim doing one off the top of my head. Hope that helps!

  43. March 2, 2010 / 12:07 am

I'm hoping for the Wright Dress and the Reed Shirtdress so I can get a PA. Can anyone tell me how the Wright Dress fits? I'm a 34B on top, so I always have problems with the fit of strapless dresses on top (too big on me). Should I size down for this one or stay TTS?

  44. March 2, 2010 / 12:09 am

I am expecting a huge markdown on items tomm too…theres so much new stock, some of the old stuff has got to go!roxy, it would be nice for them to give you some sort of discount, probably not an employee discount though since you arent putting in the hours like the typical anthro employee kwim? besides, anthro probably thinks 'why buy the cow, when we are getting the milk for free'?

  45. March 2, 2010 / 12:20 am

sara22185 – I have the Wright dress. I found it to fit TTS. There are also removable straps that come with the dress as well that can help with any sliding down issues. HTH. I hope the Wright dress goes on sale as well even though I'll be 1 day out of the PA timeframe and it would be a pain to track a new one down (I grabbed the last one in my size and haven't seen it restocked since). Plus I'd want to pick the dress in person because some of the embroidery/stitching on some of the planes was coming undone or fraying on a couple of the dresses I saw.

  46. March 2, 2010 / 12:20 am

I was just at my local Anthro and one of the SA's I know told me there will definitely be new markdowns tonight – she couldn't tell me what, but get ready tomorrow morning ladies!!

  47. March 2, 2010 / 12:51 am

Lots of Lauren's on this blog! I'm hoping for the sundot dress to go on sale also b/c it has gotten such terrible reviews. I bought it online and returned it b/c I have a feeling my size will still be available when it goes on sale. I would also LOVE for the Reed shirtdress to go on sale because then I could get a price adjustment!! The solar star blouse (that's the yellow one, right?) would be nice too b/c the store I'm visiting near has my size left (and $98 for a blouse, ack!)

  48. March 2, 2010 / 12:54 am

I do not have too many wishlisted items due for sale. It would be nice if the either the First Flurry Cardigan, Cerulean Swing Coat, or Rain Pools Cardigan received a markdown.

All right ladies…I'm back and I'm dissapointed. There were no new markdowns or 2nd cuts at my store. But homeboy was rushing around like a mad man back and forth b/w the sale section and "the back" so I assume they were just beginning to transfer items to the sale section, but couldn't really tell.I did try on a few non-sale items, including the air mail skirt. The cut is unusual but isn't terrible. Someone said it was a pencil skirt but I didn't think it was quite that form fitting, although the side panels are definitely looser.I tried on the dauphine blouse – didn't like how my tummy peeked through even up to my ribs due to the open bottom but the blouse was really pretty.Hmm lets see I also tried on the recital cardigan – it is a bit long, and very see through (I have very tan olive skin so this might not be as big an issue with fair people).I tried on the Alina skirts – these run really tiny and short, I am crossing them off my wish list.

Hi! Just discovered this blog, and LOVE it! I'll do my best to chip in my 2 cents whenever I can about sales, etc in my region. Taking my two-year-old with me to Anthro tomorrow, fingers crossed she'll be in a good mood and let me shop! I'm hoping for the Fifth Form dress and Beribboned Buds cardi to go on sale…

  63. March 2, 2010 / 2:40 am

I need to become a better shopper. I blow my budget on full-price new arrivals because usually nothing I want makes it to sale in my size. I am a shopping FAIL:PI was in store this morning but did not see any markdowns yet, but an SA was running around the store with a list. I was in right after they opened, though, so I am sure they didn't start right away. To anyone who wakes up early to see the new sale items: don't feel bad. I'm hoping for a few things, but most of them probably haven't been around long enough. I'm feeling lucky, though. I've been looking for a Cinched Medallions Blouse FOREVER, and the other day I was checking my wish list. I hadn't taken the Cinched Medallions Blouse off my list (refusing to concede defeat), and on a whim I clicked the "size" box. I had size 6 on my list, but when I clicked the "size" box, the box magically said 4. Since I'd heard the top runs big, I jumped on it! And amazingly, the order didn't get cancelled, and I'm now wearing my new favorite item. 🙂 So I'm feeling lucky. I got paid a day early, too, so I'm ready to shop!I'm in loooooooove with the Air Mail skirt, I wish they'd mark it down. The Lift-Off Jacket, too.

I realized that before the sale section updates, if you sort each section (i.e. tops, sweaters, etc.) from "newest," the sale items are usually towards the bottom (i.e. the oldest items). From Rothko Sweater, Oscillations cardi, From-The-Green Cardi, In-The-Bud Cardigan, Acclimate Sweater, Letizia Cardigan, Roundabout Blouse, Dollops of Cream Blouse, Off the Map Blouse, Celebratory Blouse, Gentle Waves shell are some of the things on sale so far.

Anon @ 3:04,I tried the link for the Felted Lei, and wasn't able to add it to my cart although I was able to click on the sizes. It's also still showing up regular price. How did you see it on sale? Thanks!

Only the XS & S sizes are available online in the Felted Lei Cardi. I'm able to view them through my wishlist. What size are you looking for? I've been hearing from this community that people have been seeing the cardi re-stocked in the stores.

  87. March 2, 2010 / 8:29 am

The cached links work, but only if the size is available, otherwise it just won't add anything to your bag. If you're looking for an xs or s I can make my wishlist public and you can add it to your bag that way.
