OOTD: Catching up on the last two weeks

Last weekend I did not have a chance to post my OOTDs from the week so we’ve got two weeks’ worth this time around. I did cull my two least favorites but this is still a monster post. Hope you’ve got a snack! Just to warn you many of the product links are homepage redirects for the Anthro items, but I’ve included them anyway in case Anthro ever realizes how dumb it is and changes them back to work.

Above is an outfit you saw this week in Kim’s Anthroholic Reader Outfits post. It’s probably my favorite feature on her blog. I love seeing how you put together your Anthropologie items in brilliant and beautiful looks. It’s quite inspirational. For my look I have two Anthropologie items that came to me from reader tips/charge sends: the Dewpoint Blouse from Palo Alto (CA) and the Tempting Trellis via a Wishlist popback. I thought I was over the Dewpoint Blouse but then I remembered how awesome it looked on goldenmeans and I need it. Once it was on sale I pounced. Glad I did.

In this outfit:
Sweater: Tempting Trellis Cardigan ($98, similar here, here, and here)
Top: Dewpoint Blouse ($68, similar here, here and here)
Skirt: J.Crew wool shirred skirt (now $50)
Tights: Hue Opaque Tights in espresso ($13)
Shoes: Sofft Corine ($100, also try here)
Necklace: J.Crew Symphony Necklace in pumpkin ($98)

Anthropologie’s dressing room was kind enough to pull double duty as my OOTD mirror last week. There has been a lot of love for the Parted Petals Cardigan ($98, review here) and I understand why — though very cropped it’s eternally cute. I loved the way Anthropologie styled it in their recent outfits set. I took their yellow cue though I presented it in the skirt. A lot of the reviews complain that the cardigan is hard to wear open to which I say o rly? Looks fine to me. I like it best like this though — two snaps buttoned.

In this outfit:
Sweater: Parted Petals Cardigan ($98)
Top: Ann Taylor Loft scoopneck shell (similar here, here and here)
Skirt: J.Crew vintage cord skirt (similar here and here)
Tights: Hue Opaque Tights in espresso ($13)
Boots: Eddie Bauer oldies (similar here, here and a wide-calf option here)
Necklace: From Hawaii

Lemmings strike again for this look. I saw the top/cardigan paired so well by Chloe that I was itching to try it myself. For my look I tried different shades of the top and cardigan but I’m pleased, even though I do look a bit wide because there’s nothing to tailor the waist. Ann Taylor & Ann Taylor Loft have really stepped up their game as far as designs go. (I know they call it LOFT now but, umm, yikes to that rebranding). A lot of the time that means knocking off J.Crew and Eileen Fisher and other higher-market stores. But when they have unique designs like these I’m there. The thing about these stores is that their prices are low enough that I sometimes get suckered into buying more than I mean to. It sucks because their knits are low-quality materials that just do not last long. I have to remind myself it’s worth it to spend more on organic materials that will last.

It also gave me a chance to rock the Scalloped Dots Skirt, an item which I thought would never go on sale. (Thankfully I was wrong.) Though the size 8 fit me best at the waist it was way too short on me, so I sized up to a 12 and took it in to make the length work better. It’s still shorter than I’d like for day but it passes the fingertip test. I added some opaque tights in black before wearing this outfit to work.

In this outfit:
Sweater: Ann Taylor Flower Trim Cardigan in dolphin ($68)
Top: Ann Taylor Floral Front Shell ($48)
Skirt: Scalloped Dots Skirt (now $50, similar here and here)
Tights (not shown): Hue Opaque Tights ($13)
Shoes: Nine West Namely Flats in black ($80, similar here, here and here)

Another Ann Taylor look here. I am in love with the pencil skirt. It’s got soft texture and shine to it and is perfectly fit to my curves. It has some fake stuff in it but is mostly cotton, making for much better quality. As happens to me every winter I gain about 10 lbs in late January through February (I’m convinced it’s the birthday cake, like you’re not supposed to eat it for 30 days straight or something) so it’s a bit tight on me at the moment but I’m not worried about the long term. Plus I bought a backup one size up just in case.

closeup of the skirt material

You’d think I own enough tiered shells but I couldn’t resist adding one more. I guess I’m not the only one who loved this either — it sold out (online, I’m sure it’s still in stores) yesterday during Ann Taylor’s sale.

In this outfit:
Top: Ann Taylor Silk Georgette Ruffled Dot Shell ($78)
Skirt: Ann Taylor Shiny Weft Texture Skirt (now $70)
Shoes: Nine West Namely Flats in black ($80, similar here, here and here)

The skirt made another appearance this week for my management meeting at work. The shirt, from J.Crew, cracks me up every time I wear it. It’s like those little fans they have on the wall of the train tunnel at Denver International Airport. Or like that Kate Spade ad with all the pinwheels. A gust of wind and the little petals are a-blowing every which way. It’s good to get a kick out of your clothes. The sweater is the Maya cardi, also from J.Crew. I love the shape but the quality is…meh. I wish I could say I’ve stopped buying things at full price at J.Crew but I’m a sucker for their cardis. It really is like crack.

In this outfit:
Sweater: J.Crew Maya cardigan (similar here and here)
Top: J.Crew silk petal tank (similar here, here and here)
Skirt: Ann Taylor Shiny Weft Texture Skirt (now $70)
Tights: Hue Opaque Tights ($13)
Shoes: Nine West Namely Flats in black ($80, similar here, here and here)
Necklace: Iced Lait Necklace (now $30)
Earrings: also Anthro, never made it online

This cardigan, Moth’s Brekka cardigan, is an acquisition through the Trade Market. And I am head-over-heels in love with it! This is a medium and though I could have used a small I’m still very happy to have this cardigan in my closet. It’s got a swingy tent shape and bell sleeves plus a 3-dimensional pattern that’s just as pretty coming or going. I drew inspiration for the red underneath from the original catalogue shot, shown below. I used my cranberry Wind-Rippled tee to pull it off.

I got a bunch of compliments on this outfit. Thanks to Chelsea for selling to me!!

In this outfit:
Cardigan: Brekka cardigan
Top: Wind-Rippled Tee (similar here, here and here)
Jeans: Gap Long & Lean jeans ($60)
Shoes: Wandering Platforms ($158) aka Biviel BVC053 (similar here and here

Welcome to my natural habit(at), the preppy look. It dresses up the casual just a bit and keeps everything classic. I put a bit of a whimsical spin on the look with the Flaxen Wedges. Having two honey anchor pieces might be too much, and I do have other skirts I could swap in, but at the end of the day I am happy with how this look turned out.

In this outfit:
Top: Valeria Tunic (similar here, here and here)
Vest: BCBG layering sweater vest (similar here, here and here)
Skirt: J.Crew vintage cord skirt (similar here and here)
Tights: Hue Opaque Tights in espresso ($13)
Shoes: Flaxen Wedges
Necklace: a gift (similar here and here)
Ring: Forever 21 (closeup here, similar here and here)

And finally, you can never go wrong with Diane von Fursternberg. I won this dress on ebay from a local seller during one of the snowy weeks. I ended up trekking all the way to Harlem to claim this dress. It was well worth it. Hard to tell from these photos but I wore my black Berry Bush tights with this look. The black version of the tights seems to run tighter than the last version for whatever reason. Hopefully they last with no pulls or tears.

In this outfit:
Diane von Fursternberg Jessica wrap dress in ginkgo navy
Berry Bush Tights ($18)
Shoes: Nine West oldies (similar here and here)
Jewelry: from Hawaii

Great outfits Roxy! I really like the combo of the parted petals cardi with the JCrew skirt.Since you plan your outfits in advance, do you ever change your mind during the week or do you stick with what you planned?

Wow, now I really want that Parted Petals Cardi… I wish I didn't have to wait until 5/21 to get it 🙁

Thanks Clara. :DAthena – yes, I do change when the weather forces me too (i.e. driving rain + tights = change needed). Also a quick story: a couple of weeks ago I wore a jeans outfit during the snowstorm. The founder of my company is well-connected and that day he asked me to sit in on a meeting with a famous actor who shall remain unnamed. I was KICKING MYSELF because any other day I would have been dressed well but of course that day I looked like a scrub. Not that I wanted to run home and change into a ball gown or anything, I just wished I looked a little more presentable. So that day I learned why it's important to always dress up for work.

Lola I noticed the backorder date on the cardi! Unreal. I am going to run a post on this later this week, but Anthro has to be hurting itself with low inventory levels right now. They're selling out of stuff way too quickly.

Love that Brekka cardigan – so great over the cranberry and I agree you can't go wrong with a dvf dress – it looks great on you and totally worth the trek! And you look so happy in the pics with the parting petals cardi – such a happy fun outfit. Love it.

I love your outfits, Roxy! I'm especially loving the scalloped dots skirt. Wish I would have bought it!I always dress up for work, too (I'm a teacher). One day last week I was feeling kinda grumpy so I didn't dress up, and that was the day my superintendant came in! Argh!

I love your outfits. You're making me consider Ann Taylor for shopping. What size do you wear for their cardis and tops?

  9. March 7, 2010 / 9:43 pm

Wowza, all these outfits look great! I absolutely love the parted petals cardi!

  10. March 7, 2010 / 9:47 pm

Thanks Sweet Tea! I guess I do look pretty happy in the Parted Petal outfit. Must be the cardi.Carly – Ugh, that's always the way isn't it? We can commiserate together.Stephanie – I size down in their tops, take my true size in their cardis/sweaters and am TTS in their skirts. J. – It's such a cute cardi. Totally worth full price in my opinion.

Love your post with all the cute outfits and it really makes me want to place an order. I just recently returned some items via UPS and rec'd confirmation that it arrived on March 1. Any idea how long it takes for it to show up as credited in my account? Policy says it takes 2-3 weeks for processing.

  12. March 7, 2010 / 9:55 pm

Based on some comments in a thread earlier this week 2-3 weeks is pretty standard. Which boggles my mind.

Do they do free shipping on charge/sends for items that are backordered online? Lola, the Parted Petals Cardi's is still in stores.

  14. March 7, 2010 / 10:21 pm

Thanks for the tip, Anon! I was wondering if there were still some available in stores. I might try calling around to get my hands on the Parted Petals Cardi sooner. On a related matter, does anyone know if it's possible to return a charge-send item just by shipping it back to the store that sent it? I know that the warehouse won't take returns of in-store purchases and the nearest B&M store is over 2 hours from my house! This prospect always makes me hesitant to charge-send an item if I haven't already tried it on.

LOVE the Brekka cardigan on you!

  16. March 7, 2010 / 10:30 pm

Roxy – I agree that the inventory level seems to be at a new low. It's definitely having an effect on my purchases. There are tons of spring items that I want but almost all of them are backordered so I'd rather just wait until they're available again. Once I've ordered something, I'm very impatient for it to arrive :)I have to wonder why Anthro never seem to send out surveys about dresses before deciding how many to stock. For example, if 90% of respondents said that the Drifting By Dress is their first choice and that they would definitely buy it, then maybe they wouldn't have run out of size 0's within the first day of premiering the March catalog online!

I think it has to do with the state of the economy so far, most retailers are cutting down inventory to cut costs, it assures that their stock will sell out and they don't have to do drastic markdowns to get rid of their inventory.

Love that Brekka cardi on you! 🙂 Enjoyed your whole OOTD post. Too cute.

  19. March 8, 2010 / 4:57 am

YAY you got the Gingko Jessica, I'm so glad, it looks fabulous on you 🙂 All your other outfits are so cute too. And lol, I am so sad that I didn't get the Dewpoint Blouse after seeing how cute it looks on *you* 😉

  20. March 8, 2010 / 1:59 pm

Anon @ 5:09 – it depends. If the item is available locally they will charge you shipping. However if the item is unavailable locally they usually do not.Hmm Lola that's a good question. I think if you called them ahead of time to give them a heads up they'd let you do it.Thank you Jan Russell & Chelsea! 🙂 I am loving it.goldenmeans thanks so much for your help with the ginkgo sizing! I am thrilled with the dress. And LOL on the Dewpoint blouse. Such is life. 😉
