Mini guest post: Reviews by Robin

Welcome back to Robin, a fellow New Yorker and Anthropologie lover. She was kind enough to send over a couple of reviews from a recent store visit. I love seeing how each item looks on all the different reviewers! If you’re interested in writing a guest post please email me or click the “contact” link near the top of the blog. On to the guest post…

I’m back again for two more quick reviews. For info on my sizing, please see my previous post.

The detailing on Tracy Reese’s Pictureshow Dress ($298) immediately caught my eye, despite the hefty price tag. It looked like it ran small, so I grabbed a 10. That was a mistake, as it the draping above the bust just hung loose, and the dress made me look bigger than normal.

I switched to a size 8 (my normal size), which was much better, as the draping at the shoulders/bust was taut, and it nipped in my waist. As Roxy mentioned in her review, this dress doesn’t allow much room in the bust. I am by no means busty, and this size 8 was just right.

I quite liked the fit of this dress, as the pleats and fabric are gorgeous in person, even though the material is somewhat sheer (you can sort of see my black undergarments through the dress). The color of the dress is peachier in person than on the Web site. As Roxy also mentioned, the back zipper has some problems. I saw a petite girl across the hall requesting help with the zipper.

For the price and lack of versatility, I’ll wait for a sale and then reconsider.

Leifsdottir Glasshouse Dress (now $150)

I noticed a few of these dresses added to the sales rack at Rockefeller Center on Monday, but the price there (~$238) wasn’t as good as the recent sale online (and it now appears to be out of stock). Since they only had two size 6s and a size 4, I decided to give a 6 a try (I find I can often size down on Leifsdottir).

I was pleasantly surprised by this dress, although the hemline’s pretty high. It rises up in the middle and drapes back down on either side. My shoulders are broad, and that area was a bit snug. However, I liked the small details on this dress: the slight pouf at the shoulders, the pockets (all dresses should have pockets!) and the purple lace lining. This dress looks much better in person, and the purple is gorgeous. I don’t mind the short hemline, as I’d style it with tall boots to cut back on the skin exposure. I can imagine wearing this now with wool tights and said boots (even to work), and with bare legs in the spring.

However, the store’s sale price wasn’t low enough for me. If I go back and see it for $150, I might get it.

Once again, I hope this was helpful!

I really love that second dress on you! I've never seen it in any of my stores, but I'm almost tempted to try and track one down. I know I would never buy the Pictureshow Dress because I would never have anywhere to where it, but I still really want to try it on just for fun. Oh and I wanted to tell you, I hunted down a Montgolfier Skirt because of your review on here (it looked so cute on you!). I love it! Youmeandanthropologie.blogspot.com

You've reignited my lust for the Glasshouse Dress. I tried really hard not to get it because I'm saving for a vacation, but I might now change my mind.

Sara, glad you are happy with the Montgolfier skirt! It's so cute (I just have way too many skirts). And the Pictureshow dress IS fun to try on. We are not alone, as half the girls in the dressing area were giving it a go.Tien–the Glasshouse Dress is by far my favorite item out of all the stuff I've tried on (quite a bit) in the last month. Also I think it'll be quite versatile (cardigan or top over it and wear it as a "skirt," throw on an interesting belt, tights, etc.). If I were to cave on any item in the store now, it would be this!

The pictureshow dress looks AMAZING on you! Please buy it as soon as it goes on sale, that is a staple you won't regret. I can totally see that with some cool strappy metallic shoes, or with a pair of low white chucks when running an errand (before the glamourous event you are wearing it too!). The Leifsdottir also looks great on you – you have a great shape for dresses! I hope you are able to get them soon!saer
