Styled: Revelations Skirt

This post is for Sara, who requested styling ideas for the Revelations Skirt (no longer online).

This set is more about the idea of the outfit than the actual color combinations. Since most stores are clearing out their winter gear we’re having a hard time finding the items that are exactly what we want in the right color. (Excuses, excuses). So while we like the idea of a yellow ruffled henley to pull out the same color in the skirt feel free to swap in brown, teal (like the Wind-Rippled Tee for instance!) or black. Likewise with the cowlneck sweater vest. It’s the shape with the brown leather belt over it that we like. This color isn’t bad but a darker brown would work a lot better.

The rest of the look is authentic. The necklace is a simple shape — a bow — that wraps it all up nicely.

In this outfit:
Revelations Skirt (similar here and here)
J.Crew Perfect Fit Ruffle Henley Tee ($35)
Canvas by Lands’ End Women’s Shawl Collar Vest ($50)
Striped Tights ($18)
Franco Sarto Women’s June Tall Boot ($145)
Covetous Shoulderbag ($300)
That’s-A-Wrap Necklace, Large ($230)
Sea Petal Earrings ($28)

For this second look we channeled Anthropologie’s current 50s vibe into a nice work or study outfit. The top is too perfect (and also too expensive) but we couldn’t resist showing the idea of a tie-neck sweater to up the sweetness factor of this outfit. The shoes are a play off the skirt’s stripes in a toned-down palette. I’ve seen those shoes in real life and the main color is brown even the photo makes it look navy or black. Anthropologie carried them late last year but they’re long gone from the website. The purse and accessories are again whimsical pieces to add to the fun.

In this outfit:
Revelations Skirt (similar here and here)
Carolina Herrera Short-Sleeve Sweater ($1,190, similar here and here)
Alfresco Bag ($148)
Pindot Tights ($18)
Frye Matilda Oxfords ($218)
Mesmer Earrings ($98)
That’s-A-Wrap Necklace, Large ($230)

I have a yellow teeshirt and brown boots that I wear with my revelations skirt. Have had trouble finding the right sweater… Never even considered a vest though. Hmmm… Thanks!

I pair my teal wind rippled tee (the grey also looks good too), black snakebite belt and sometimes either my black boots or black oxford heels with my revelations skirt. As for sweaters I'll wear a solid color crewneck cashmere sweater that plays off one of the colors in the skirt. Roxy, I love the idea of the bow-tied top!

Very nice stylings. I love(!) my revelations skirt and have no regrets at having bought it full price. I find it works well with a lot of my J.Crew graphic tees and the girls that work in Anthro have liked some of the looks. I also put the JC taffeta ruffled jacket in blackberry with it with a fairly simple white tee under – think it was the white chiffon rose one from Summer) and grey cabled sweater tights, tan platform booties (the ric rac ones from Anthro – sorry forget name). Athena's idea's of black shoes are also great I think as are Ady's 🙂

I have never heard of Lands End Canvas before. They have some cute bathing suits. Thanks for the heads up.

Roxy,Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am SO excited fofr your great ideas (and everyone else's as well). I managed to track down a teal wind rippled tee when they got marked down so I'll definitely try that with my skirt. I also really, really love that brown tie neck sweater with it. I'm sad that it's so insanely expensive – ugh – 'cuz it's so darn cute! Thanks again. Love your blog!Sara

Ady, Christine, Athena & Sydneygirl — Lovely ideas! Thanks for sharing them. :)Georgine – anytime. I heard about it through J.Crew Aficionada (my source for all things preppy). DEA – Anthro blog family mind-reading. ;)Sara – I know, even at half price that sweater would be expensive. You can blame my friend Grace for finding it. I loved it too much not to use it though.Anon – I sized down to a small. The small is a bit tight around my hips but in the medium I found the overall shirt to be too big, and the straps tipped the front neckline too low.

I just came back from the Santana Row Anthro in San Jose, CA and they had one Revelations skirt in a Large in the sale section. The price tag was missing, so I don't know how much it's going for, but it's there for anyone searching!

Can anyone tell me how the Revelations Skirt runs size wise? I want to try to track it down but wasn't sure which size to go for! Thanks, ladies!

Melissa, I found it TTS. You may want to head over to DEA's blog as well, she just posted an OOTD with it.

Hey Roxy, a great substitute for that Carolina Herrera $1190 sweater is the Anthropologie Ruffles-Upon-Ruffles tee from Velvet in the cocoa color. That's actually what I wear with the Revelations skirt. 🙂
