Checking in with Leifsdottir

Last Thursday Leifsdottir presented its Fall 2010 collection in Gramercy at the Prince George Ballroom. The 95-piece collection was inspired by the surreal, dreamlike works of Salvador Dalí and his flamboyant life in Catalonia, Spain. Designer Johanna Uurasjarvi called the collection “The Catalonian Affair” after the streets Dali once roamed.

Leifsdottir has always been a label about structure and this season was no different. There were tailored high-waisted pants, short tiered skirts and shorts in materials ranging form leather to velvet and overcoats with oversized accents meant to emulate the performer’s costume. It’s intriguing as always, though I found some pieces to feel a bit overdone. Then again I’m only looking at pictures and I’ve always found that Leifsdottir’s pieces translate better in real life.

I picked my favorite three looks to showcase above. I think the red cardigan in the far right shot is my favorite piece in the collection. It nails the Spanish influence without going over the top. I love that Uurasjarvi utilizes bold color no matter what the season. In my opinion that’s what makes Leifsdottir stand out among the sea of escapist clothing. See photos of the full collection here. You can also read takes from Goldenmeans and Racked.

Leifsdottir used the opportunity of Fashion Week coverage to launch their own e-commerce website. It’s great to see their entire collection available to buy in one place. I’m drooling over the Gilded Garden Dress ($328) which Bloomingdales and Neiman Marcus are both carrying as the Temple Garden Dress. There’s a lot more on the site than what Anthropologie (or other retailers) are carrying. I have my fingers crossed that the site does well!

Leifsdottir is on Facebook too. They’ve got their social media act together. Did you look at the 2010 collections online? What do you think?

Roxy,I just wanted to mention that Lilly Scott on American Idol is wearing the Cockadoodle Dress from Anthro! The show just started over here, and I was more excited to see Anthro clothing than to listen to the songs, lol! I'm pretty sure it's the dress, but maybe somebody else knows for sure.

it's amazing how great that pink top looks on the model! i think it's pretty silly-looking in "real life". i LOVE leifsdottir; i'm so glad anthro carries them, especially when their pieces go on sale. xo

I love Leifsdottir… just not the prices. I just got the Noble Lore Blouse on sale, and I love it. Their quality is great and the designs are always to die for. I like that they have their own site now. One more website to be obsessed with 🙂

I ordered the Temple Garden dress specifically because of your review. I got it in today and it is absolutely gorgeous in person, I just wasn't as in love with it as I thought I would be to justify the price. I have a picture of it here:http://www.flickr.com/photos/illum_inated/4398636515/

Oops, looks like the photo is gone now but I did see it yesterday. You look beautiful in it!! I'm sorry it wasn't quite what you wanted though, I can understand at that price. It's available at 3 stores, so it has a really good chance of going on sale. Maybe then it will be more justifiable.
