Styled: Winged Victory Top

This post is for Anonymous, who asked for ideas for the Winged Victory Top ($78, no longer online).

This is my favorite Odille top of the year. I have already gotten 3 good wears out of it including one party outfit. The cool thing about it is you can dress it down easily by taking off the removable lime green sash. Then just throw a v-neck sweater on over it, add some wide leg trousers or jeans and voila! Instant work outfit. Anon mentioned that she needed some help with a cardigan to wear over the top. So here’s our suggestion: find a cardigan that matches your shape. If you’re apple-shaped look for a slightly boxier cardigan that hits high hip. Leave the top few buttons undone on the cardigan to allow the top to peek through a it. I’m tall and pear-shaped so I wear a cardigan that hits me mid-hip over the top and belt it. That creates a tiny waist and evens my hips and that’s the style we echoed in the look above.

We picked a pair of straight leg jeans to build the illusion of a column shape. We purposely sought out a cardigan that’s shown open to reflect that you can wear it this way over the top. Another sneaky suggestion — you can remove the sash from the top and use it to belt the cardigan. That way you still get the pop of green. We kept this outfit mostly monochromatic with a contrasting necklace to draw attention to the fabulous neckline of the top. The sharp look of the shoes contrasts the art deco fan of the top but still works because of the muted palette.

In this outfit:
Winged Victory Top ($78, no longer online)
525 America 3/4 Sleeve Cardigan ($72)
Nine West Kelsey pumps (similar here and here
Nine West Go Bold Stud Satchel ($225)
Old & New Necklace ($38)
Garden’s Gate Earrings (similar here, here and here
AG Bellini Catwalk ($168)

For the second outfit we went in a totally different direction. This is how my friend who also owns the top wears it for work. We love how the pencil skirt has both gathering in the front and a 3/4 peplum that will sit perfectly under the a-shape of the top’s hem. Some decorative laced tights are on-trend and draw the line between the skirt and the top. Pumps are of course required for this confident woman’s look. For the final piece, take the sash off the top and put on the (sheer) cowlneck sweater. Then put the sash back on over the sweater. Add some deco jewelry that agrees with the top and you will be that hottie on the street.

I wanted this top so bad after seeing it on you. I walked with it right to the register, but in a moment of clarity, realized it's not something I could wear. After seeing these stylings, I'm kind of regretting that decision.

Yes! Thanks for styling this! I bought it, and am in love with it. Its great for going out downtown on a friday night. I wore it with a pencil skirt and a black clutch, gold necklace (helped with the whole cleavage thing). Im so glad I kept this purchase! :)here is a pic of what it looked like when i wore it: <a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v250/nati76/downtown.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v250/nati76/dow… />I saw some of them today at the Anthro in Chula Vista, CA store for anyone interested who lives near here.

Thanks, Roxy! I'll have to really think about it. I bought the Dandelion Wish Dress last night, and well, sort of, kind of, blew my budget. For now, I'll have to live vicariously through you and your posts.

I had called customer services and the girl could not find it in the system though I had the right name for it? How do I get to verify stock? Should I call the stores directly? I want this top so bad!Marge

i own this top, but have to yet wear it–thanks for the styling tips!i've also been contemplating wearing something under it to give it a casual look–ie. a long sleeve tissue (thin) crewneck tee, or even a tissue turtleneck–likely in a jewel tone to contrast yet compliment the sash. or is that just a silly idea?!
