September Wish List: Defying Convention

For September, I think my theme is going to be trying on items I don’t normally try. I’m hoping this will do a couple of things. First, I hope it will stop me from buying the same item over and over because in purging my closet I’ve learned that I tend to buy similar shapes and colors repeatedly. It makes for a boring repertoire…no wonder I can never find anything to wear! Second, I’m hoping the shock of new shapes, patterns and colors will make me think a little more before I buy and hopefully help my wallet a bit. With those goals in mind below are a bunch of items outside my comfort zone that I can’t wait to try on.

Anthropologie at ShopStyle

The Chrysalis Vest ($78) by Sleeping on Snow is either going to be the perfect top layer for indoors during the cold months (paired with a waffle long-sleeved tee and jeans tucked into fuzzy boots) or it’s going to look like I cut holes in my favorite blanket and put it on.

Well, we know the Papaver Posy Blouse ($128) is sheer. And we know it is sure to move brilliantly as you walk. I’m just wondering if it will come to life on or if I will drown in it.

Maeve has not treated me very well this summer but I still adore the look of the Poplar Branch Dress ($158). The back in particular is a treat worth taking a chance on.

From the back, Deletta’s Bloemist Cardigan ($78) looks like any draped cardigan but from the front it looks like a cape or fabulous scarf. The raspberry is intriguing and the heather grey illuminating. I question whether I can pull this off or not but one doesn’t know until they try!

If your shag rug, sheepdog or Chewbacca is missing some fuzz, I think I found it on the On-the-Fringe Sweatercoat ($168). Still I might want to make this piece mine. In high school I had a wonderful coat from 579 (remember that store?) that had a fuzzy placket and I remember it kept me super warm over my NYC party outfits. It gets cold and windy here and this might be a great night topper. Then again, it might just make me look fuzzy.

The sleeves scare me a bit but otherwise I find the Diffusion Vest ($98) quite appealing. The asymmetric hem is interesting and the two-tone back is pretty cool. Car wreck or hot ride? Not sure yet but I can’t wait to find out.

What’s on your September wish list?

i definitely feel you on buying the same thing over and over… i realized i did that, myself, when i purged my closet this year (twice!). now i've been looking at things i like and asking "do i have something like this already?" and, just like you, going for things i know i don't have. :)the only two things on my wish list are the button up shirt with birds and the cardigan with clocks. i love bird graphics and studied surreal art in college, so both of those are perfect for me!

Hi Brewer Family – if you wrote down your anthro card number, go to this page. (It's where you link your anthro card number to your anthropologie.com account.) You can create an anthropologie.com account if you don't have one. Then at the prompt enter your anthro card number. You'll get a confirmation and you should be all set!If you didn't write down your anthro card number or don't know it, I'd call the customer service line at 1-800-309-2500. They can help you out. 🙂

I will certainly try! Click here. On the left hand side of the page, click on the link that says "link anthro to your account". It will prompt you to log in if you haven't already. Then it will take you to a screen that says "enter your anthro number." When you're done inputting your number, click submit and you're all set.

I have been trying to be more creative with my clothes as well! I don't want to waste money on clothes that look like the ones I already own, and I want a wardrobe with lots of possibilities. I'm ready to try new things!I recently found out I'm moving to Portland, so I will be increasing the closet purging to move as lightly as possible. I've already got a Yard Sale post on my blog, if anyone is interested:http://likelybadger.com/photos/JCrewExchange1/

I like the idea of branching out. In that spirit, I want to try on the Plaza Cardigan–the long one with all the ruffles. I've long been an Anthropologie fan, and they've been coming out with sweaters like this for a long time, but I always deemed them too froufy. But now that slim, dark jeans are in, I can see piling on a froufy cardigan over a sleek, dark ensemble would make a nice contrast. Good inspiration to push fashion boundaries!

My sister is in Portland right now as part of a West Coast road trip and she says it's awesome.Caro — ITA about the Plaza Cardigan. And I love that dark jeans minus whiskering are making a long overdue return.
