Leifsdottir Spring 2010 Presentation: The Clothes

Update 9/12 11:06 PM: Slideshow now available!

The theme of Leifsdottir’s Spring 2010 presentation was The World Awaits You. Travel manifested itself in bold prints, soft hues and lustrous fabrics. The models walked around the room in each outfit, stopping to pose at three or four designated points. To create the illusion of travel and sight-seeing many of the models carried mini-binocular sets with them. They would look through them every so often to some sight afar. Loved the whimsy. The other great thing was that the models were talking and laughing as they made their voyage around the room. They were having fun! Who doesn’t want to buy clothes that peeps have fun in?

The styling was spot-on and I only wish the accessories were coming to a store near you next spring as well. Amazing hair and headpieces along with fabulous jewelry provided by Reverie. And the shoes…amazing.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s start with the clothing. I learned something at the presentation. Though Leifsdottir was borne from Anthropologie it is operating as its own entity, much like Elevenses. Anthropologie buys pieces from the collection just like any other store would. This explains both why Leifsdottir is carried by other stores as well as why Anthro never has the complete collection. As I watched the outfits come through I tried to guess which ones Anthropologie will buy and those are the ones I’ve chosen to highlight in this post. I’m curious to hear your guesses as well. There were 24 outfits shown in all, plus additional pieces available to view on stationary racks.

These were my two favorite outfits. The samples were nearly all size 6 (my dress size, conveniently) and it was all I could do to stop myself from begging to take the dress on the left home. Called the Honeydew Green Temple Garden Silk Dress in the docket, the dress was a stunner. I love the silver floral waistband detail and the way the skirt gathered into soft tiers. I am satisfied with the length and like the gentle v-neck. This dress needs to make it into Anthropologie stores next year. In fact, I’d like to pre-order it now please.

The outfit on the right is two pieces: the India Pink Silk Dream Blossom Blouse and the Deep Navy Stretch Silk Skirt. The top was stunning on the dress form. I like the 3-dimensional flowers on the strap but I’m not as sure about the leash-esque straps. On the dressform, yes. On the model I was less convinced. The blue/yellow combination on the dressform also spoke to me more than the pink version the model showed off. Her skirt, a silky shirred navy mini was gorgeous. Loved the deep shade and the front panel. I think I just found my workout inspiration. Her shoes were amazing too — beautiful amber satin with tons of deep amber jewels on top. I am not sure who provided the shoes but I would love to find out!

I am not sure that either component of this outfit will make it to Anthropologie. I can easily see it in department stores. We shall see. A few more photos below:

The next duo featured an interesting dress that played with peplum. The final product ends up with a dual-layered skirt made up of a pencil-style base with a pleated airy layer over it. It’s called the Navy Cotton & Silk Lotus Medallion Dress.

I love this dress. It almost looks like two dresses combined into one — a strapless sheath with a more modest v-neck over it. To me this seems like the quintessential Anthropologie dress. It’s like nothing else I’ve seen and the print is a pleasantly different mix of colors. The back is a bit low-cut (shown in photo below). Though it hits mid-thigh on the model she was glamorously tall and so I think this will actually be just above the knee or knee-length on the average height among us.

The second model wore the Sindoria Pink Cotton Organdy Daisy Blouse and the Casual Denim Skinny Pant. My feeling on this outfit 100% depends on the price. The top was also in white on one of the racks and I feel like you can already get a similar look this season. I do like the color a lot and could see this as a layering piece. If it’s $98 though, I’ll pass. Same goes for the pants. The lace-up detail on the side is pleasingly subtle and the model just got caught in an off pose for the pic above. I didn’t notice any fit issues in real life. Are they really unique though? With other pieces that shine far brighter this outfit was nice but not spectacular. What was spectacular, however, is the model’s bracelet arm. She has to be wearing 20-30 gold bangles. I don’t know if this look translates to real life but I sure want to try it! A couple more pics below.

One of the pieces that stopped me in my tracks was a gorgeous cardigan with a duck (goose?) on it. Make that the Deep Navy Hand-Painted Crane Cardigan. Made of thinner wool, the cardigan was slightly-see through and cropped. It seemed to be designed to hit at high-hip. The pattern continued around the back. I liked the deep scoop. For the presentation it was styled with the Natural White Cotton Knot Tee and the Fuschia Silk & Cotton Batik Print Skirt (see second photo down). The shirt wasn’t very interesting to me but the skirt? Awesome. I guess I love me some pink. The batik print spoke to me and it said spring. Pairing it with the cardigan was a great idea. Hopefully both of those items make it to Anthropologie.

The other model in the pairing is wearing the Silk & Cotton Ashri Floral Blouse and the Maris Denim Cropped Skinny. The print top is so intriguing. Not really sure how I feel about a giant flower on my shoulder but I love the bold print. A few more photos below.

A few other looks I really liked and hope to see at Anthropologie:

Akani Red Shibori Silk Dot Dress
Petal Blue Silk & Cotton Fever-Pitch Blouse with
Deep Navy Drapey Linen Short
Natural White Cotton & Metal Fan Jacket with
Turmeric Yellow Silk & Cotton Shadow Flower Skirt

Petrol Blue Serpent Silk Dress
Tokyo Yellow Silk & Cotton Shadow Flower Blouse with
Optic White Tokyo Cotton Short

Finally, below are some items that caught my eye on the racks and one more dressform look. The Leifsdottir collection represents a desirable look for 2010 and it makes me very excited to see what Anthropologie’s design teams are working on for next spring. This post will be updated with a slideshow link for additional pictures later on today. Natalie has all of the Getty Images over on Anthropologie Addict. Racked also has tons of great shots, including a closeup of the beautiful shoes. I’ll continue to update as more photos are posted…there were so many photographers there!

I'm so glad everyone is liking the pictures! I am chipping away, compiling everything for the slide show. My schedule is a bit crazy atm but I will have time to post the slideshow later tonight.kristin – I have a tradition of wearing DVF to Fashion Week, but the weather was so nasty yesterday that I changed into a pair of wide leg trouser jeans, a plain tank and a long cardigan thrown over it. There were a lot of people in Anthropologie at the show and almost everyone else was in jeans or a suit. Today more of the same, I'm wearing skinnies with a tee shirt and my Urban Outfitters Chanel-style tweed jacket. The weather is not cooperating at all unfortunately.

Hey, I was hoping you could help me out (and I'm going to post this on other Anthropologie blogs too). I saw a handbag in Anthropologie today. It's a pale grey color with a little flap that goes over the top and to the other side, with magnetic closures. It also has some details like scalloped edges and raised dots? It also had a printed lining inside and the shape was more horizontal than vertical. Does this sound like anything you've seen online? It's not on the website but I am dying to know more about this bag! It retailed for $198, I think. If you know the name of it, could you help me with it? Thanks!

Thanks for the posting. I have loved the style aesthetic of Leifsdottir ever since it came out as well as many of the individual pieces. It was nice to hear about the show – much more fun than a traditional runway show too, it sounds. Re the pink flowered top. From what I have gathered in the past, items with elaborate 3D flowers on them are somewhat a signature of Leifsdottir – I can't see close enough in the pic to see if this top is similar, but if it is, the skirts in the past, which were gorgeous, were $$$, around $400 from memory 🙁
