Email: Five ways to redecorate

What’s your decorating style? Anthropologie tries to help via an email this past weekend. They’ve broken down their wares into five categories. Of course if you’re like me at all you cross into more than a couple of these categories. I picked a couple of my favorites from each category.

Rustic:
When I think rustic, I think cabin in the woods and earthy hues. Translated to Anthropologie I think “needs more deer head.” I don’t have any rustic elements in my apartment but would love to incorporate some once I own a house. I love the look of natural wood. Growing up my parents had these awesomely rustic lumberjack plaid couches. I hope to repeat that look in my future den.

Curved lines in upholstery mix with straight furniture lines in neutral tones or black & white to create Anthropologie’s interpretation of the classic look. I see influences of early 20th century throughout this mini-collection and I like it.

City Hip:
I take City Hip to mean both ahead of the trends and slightly ironic. The pieces within the mini-collection seem to support this interpretation. My favorite piece is probably the In-Motion Clock ($88) which in my mind should trigger a loud, obnoxious bell at 3 PM followed by happy children screaming.

Feminine:
Pink things aside, feminine conjures images of floral, embellished and luxurious. Anthropologie adds sheer and soft to those ideas. A little bird here, an apron there and you’ve got a calming setting. Sit down and enjoy.

Au Courant:
In tune with the current home design trends? Anthro is hip to the farmhouse movement that is making its way cityside from the rural lands. Earth tones mixed with hues of the harvest combine to populate your home with a mix of whimsy and practicality.

My husband, a recent convert from modern to Anthropologie decorating, loved this email. (He is the chief decorator in the house, without him, I would have nothing on the walls and no decorative accents and minima furniture. Growing up my Mother always had too much everything everywhere.) He is trying to figure out how to mix are already modern pieces – recently bought- with the couches and chairs her wants from Anthro.

Oh, so jealous Georgine! I have my eye on a couple of Anthro's furniture pieces as well. I think they'd mix quite well with modern. LOL at your minimal style, I love the look but I have too much stuff to pull it off.
