Reviews: Diaphanous Tunic & Elodie Lily Cardigan

Anthropologie at ShopStyle

It was featured twice in the August catalogue (including the cover) and seems to be high on every Anthro fan’s wish list. It’s the Diaphanous Tunic ($88). Kim from Anthroholic looked great in it and so did Goldenmeans.

I have to thank Kim for a styling suggestion: pairing the tunic with the Elodie Lily Cardigan ($128) which was already on my wish list.

That was what I did in the dressing room. Let’s start with the tunic. It’s sheer as others have mentioned and in real life the ruffles are not as tightly pleated as the product shot indicates. I tried on both a 6 and an 8. The 8 was loose in the sleeves so I recommend staying with your true size. The waist tie was pretty much useless in my opinion and so was the neck tie. In real life I’d want a belt to wear this by itself. Honestly though I’m much more likely to blouse this out of a skirt or wear the cardigan over it with a belt.

I think the biggest strength of the Diaphanous Tunic is its color. Both the lilac and ivory (not pictured) are warm, versatile neutrals that will work with a ton of outfits. How great does the top look with the Elodie Lily Cardigan? Again, ignore the sad waist tie and pretend like a belt is there instead. Just gorgeous. The cardigan is very long, hitting me at mid-thigh. I have a medium on and it buttoned no problem. The buttons are a glassy lavender that are similar to the tunic. It’s the details that matter!

At Rockefeller Center’s Anthropologie they have the cardigan paired with the Ruffles-Upon-Ruffles Tee ($78) in cocoa, the AG 17 Years Mending Skirt ($195) and the Straight Flush Strand ($38). Love this look as well. Note that the cardigan is tucked into the skirt.

I would like to get the ivory when it goes on sale. I bet it looks lovely on you! What are you pairing it with?

Oh I haven't decided yet, I was thinking it would be cute with jeans and camel boots or tucked into a skirt…

Thanks for the love Roxy!!! I'm glad you liked my suggestion of the tunic with the Elodie Lily cardi – isn't it great?! They both look great on you – did you buy them?

O.K. what are you guys wearing underneath this tunic. I have it in lilac, bought it on line, loved it when it came but have found that anything I put underneath it looks weird. It tends to cut me in half even if I tuck a tank into pants ect. It's so sheer everything shows and i feel a little to brightly. I'm hoping someone has a great color suggestion!

Kim – I did, they go with too much in my closet to get left behind. :)prettydaisy – I tried it out with brown tones underneath. I have a nude-colored seamless cami from Banana Republic and a brown cami from AE that have both worked well so far. Both camis are really long so I can leave them untucked. They're from a couple of years ago so I don't have links but I'll see if I can find anything similar online later today after work.

roxy -i'm so glad you got them!! the Elodie Lily cardi is next on my list. After all, since I have the tunic, I kind of need it right?!prettydaisy- i tried it on w/cream and nude seamless cami's and that worked fine. I tucked them in and didn't mind the way it looked.

hey roxy – I love the photo of the elodie cardi from the soho store, but can't find a purple version of the ruffles upon ruffles top online? Do you know if that color sold out? Or if it's a store only color? thanks so much!

Hi kater — excellent catch, it's actually the cocoa brown version of the ruffles-upon-ruffles tee. I guess I had purple on the brain, I'll update the post now. Sorry for the mixup!

thanks so much for your review. I bought this after reading this blog post and have gotten nothing but compliments whenever I wear it. I've worn it with a white ruffled J. Crew blouse, nude or light blue camis with skinny jeans and grey boots. Can't go wrong with this look.
