Reminder: Last week for free shipping for anthro members

A reminder to you that this is the last week to take advantage of free shipping on all online orders if you are an anthro member. If you’re not an anthro member — it’s not too late! Sign up here. It’s not a credit card, it’s the yellow card that you may have noticed by registers in-store. With it you can do receiptless returns and you might get a 15% off card every time when your birthday rolls around! (The discount is literally cute as a button.)

Since I’m not above begging, please please please Anthropologie extend this offer. For a company that barely throws the loyal a bone of any kind this has been a great joy. I’ve placed more orders than I normally would — especially for shoes — and can only imagine how much this promotion helped towards your 17% increase in direct sales last quarter. C’mon Anthropologie! Free shipping through Veteran’s Day! Free shipping through Christmas Day! A little longer at least.

I'm with you Roxy! Please, Anthro, you don't know how many times the free shipping has made the difference for me when I was deciding whether or not to make a purchase! Also, I've heard that the 15% birthday discount is not a guarantee, and that it is random whether or not Anthro members receive it.

My placement of orders has dramatically increased since free shipping has been offered. I almost always have to order online anyway (small store, limited product and size selection) so the free shipping has really encouraged me to order, order, order, especially since I can easily return at the store. I told my husband the promotion is ending next week and he said good, maybe I'll stop ordering so much!I do plan to place a large order in the waning days so I can take advantage one last time.

I agree Roxy! I'm hoping they have a killer sale online tomorrow. There are items on my wishlist that did not make it to my local Anthro I would like to scoop up with free shipping.Hey Anthro ~ how about free shipping all the time for cardholders? Pretty please!! 🙂

Please please please please please…who can I call or email? My rate of Anthro orders has easily tripled since this promotion.

I couldn't agree more Roxy, and was just daydreaming last night that they extend it. But I have a feeling your inital feeling was right – they'll end it and then do a bunch of markdowns the next day :-(AL – as for the 15% bday discount – you are right, they send them out at random, however, I've found through personal experience that if you do not receive one and email Customer Service and tell them, they'll mail you one right away. I did that last year and wound up with two!

Just to clarify: the Birthday Discount is NOT a guarantee for every Anthro member! They don't even send them out every month, and while we're sure there's some system as to who gets it and who doesn't – my guess is that it has to do with how much you shop and use your card – there's no guarantee that just because you sign up for the Anthro Card, that you'll get the discount. Also, there's no guarantee you'll get it every year. There's a reason we don't like to tell you about the discount when you sign up for the card – it's because we've gotten far too much grief from those who haven't. (Side note: I don't mean to sound bitter. I think it's a great program, and 15% can go a long way depending on what you buy, but we hear it quite a bit from annoyed Anthro customers who didn't get the card.)

Updated the post to reflect that the birthday discount isn't guaranteed. Although how eye-rolling ridiculous is that? Either do it or don't, don't make it some arbitrary thing. Thanks for the clarification ladies.

Anthro Employee – thanks for posting and sharing some insider info, however, why is it such a random thing? I mean what is the benefit to having the Anthro card when you won't be guaranteed a bday discount and free shipping isn't all the time? I LOVE anthro to death, but when I signed up for the card initially (i was at the store the day it launced) I was promised free shipping all the time, special sales for cardholders, etc and I haven't seen any of that It's a little disappointing when you spend so much money at Anthro.

I agree, they should extend. I have done some serious on-line shopping with them because of that sale.

In regards to free shipping all the time — Yes it was offered initially, but they did some kind of test market survey and the results showed that free shipping was not an incentive to shop more. I don't know what CRAZY people they asked this question, but this was the deal. Also get ready for some great mark downs this week!!!!!

  11. August 31, 2009 / 10:11 pm

oh please let there be some good markdowns tomorrow! There are some things I am dying for, and they have been on the website forever and have not gotten marked down!also – I second the anon – what crazy people answered that free shipping isn't an incentive to shop more? My anthro ordering have quintupled (is that even a word) since the free shipping has been offered. Please extend it!!! There are so many things from the new fall roll-outs that I want, but I know that when free shipping goes, I will be second guessing myself MUCH MORE about actually taking the plunge and ordering them!

Thanks for the info anonymous. I don't know what crazies said free shipping wasn't incentive to shop more. I adore Anthro, even write a blog devoted to it (anthroholic.blogspot.com), but I refuse to order from the website when I have to pay Anthro's outrageous shipping prices. I'd rather hunt down an item at a store and have it charge-sent for free shipping! Thanks for the tip on sale markdowns – can't wait to see!!!

  13. August 31, 2009 / 10:38 pm

Ahh markdowns! I have already spent my August budget so I'm glad tomorrow is September. 🙂 Can't wait to see what hits the sale.

Kim – to be honest, I'm not entirely sure what the system is for giving out birthday discounts to Anthro members. As a regular store employee (I'm not a manager) I'm not exactly privy to that information, but I personally think it has something to do with a) how much you buy (i.e. if you sign up for the card and then never use it, you're not getting a b-day discount) and b) how far in advance you sign up. After you fill out the form in the store, we have to send the cards to home office, who then puts them all in the system. That process takes about a month, so if you fill it out close to your birthday (one-two months in advance) you probably won't get the discount, at least in my experience. It seems like Anthro members get the birthday discount more often than not though. We're still trying to figure out what causes them to not send it out to some people. As for other benefits, you get the advantage of receipt-less returns if the purchase is registered on your card, and there are occasional little Anthro-only promos, although aside from the free shipping we haven't had any of those lately. I do wish they had some kind of concrete benefits to the card aside from the returns and birthday discount. It can be hard to get people to sign up. I hope this answers any questions, but again, this is just a guess from an employee. As always, I could be entirely wrong.

I was so excited to check the anthro site this morning in hopes of new markdowns and NOTHING!!!!! waaaah!!!! I really hope thursday is the day and anthro doesn't pull a jcrew and wait to mark everything down until AFTER free shipping is over!

Right there with you kater! The site looks like it's been updated, but no sale update. 🙁 Maybe later on? Also, the home feature from the home page isn't working for me. Maybe they are still updating.
