Hidden gems

When it comes to jewelry I have found my friends split into two groups: the jewelry-collecting fiends like me who have a few basic pieces that work with any outfit plus outfit-coordinating specific pieces. And then there are my friends who own less than 5 pieces of jewelry and hardly ever wear it.

One of the latter type recently went to Anthro with me. We got separated in the fitting room. I searched high and low for her but didn’t see her anywhere. Until finally I found her — holding a few treasures in the adornments section (including the Winged Quartet Drops, $38, above). Anthro strikes again!

When I’m low on budget it’s always nice to pick up a new pair of earrings or maybe a necklace to freshen up an outfit. The one trouble for Anthro items is that many never make it into the store. For example even with free shipping for anthro members I’d much rather see the Willowy Chandeliers ($42) in real life before making a decision. The green glass looks gorgeous but it’s hard to judge the weight online.

Or these pretties. The Gilded Cradle Earrings ($98). As a kid my fashionable aunt warned me away from wearing heavy earrings by showing me how her lobes had stretched. If these are light enough I’d love to purchase them. But they’re a pass if they pull my lobes.

I saw a store associate in the Flung Facets Earrings ($42) and while long they are just so cool looking. Each component catches the light at a slightly different angle for a prismeque effect. Online I feel as though these look slightly cheap. I would like to get a closer look to inspect further.

So simple yet so cute. The Oneiros Drops ($32) are in the NYC stores right now but the price is stopping me from purchasing them. The orbs are a lovely blue-green tone that sets off these hazel eyes nicely. Will they last until sale time?

And finally I was happily surprised to find that the Urchin’s Shell Earrings ($24) come not only in the well-made pearl variation you see above but also pink and gold interpretations. These are highest on my want list at the moment. These are fairly small — a little bigger than my thumb. I love how the pearl variant looks as though it was plucked directly from the sea.

Is $32 a lot for the Oneiros earring? I haven't seen them in person, but what is a good price? I thing they look like great warm weather earrings.

I feel like it is because they are simple in construction. I'd expect to find a similar pair on Etsy for under $20. Then again I will probably end up buying these; so add grains of salt as needed. 🙂
