Email: Frugal never looked so fine

Hey, did you know Anthropologie has like 40 items for under $100? Their latest email says so! Anthro, I love you, so don’t take it too harshly when I say that I rolled my eyes when I saw this. Click through the email and it takes you to the Pocket Pleasures page highlighting items for less than a c-note like…headbands! Or scarves! Or a nice belt.

Madewell tried a similar tactic a month ago and I’m sorry but I think it’s a dumb move. Peeps are not going to Anthro looking for classic tees @ 2 for $15, you know what I’m saying? If you want people to feel like they are walking away from your store with deals offer a % off coupon code or continue adding items to your killer sale. I find emails like this to be a bit patronizing.

There are some cute items on my Wishlist on the Pocket Pleasures page (Stretching Acres Cardigan ($68), From the Ground Up Top ($68), Valley Fold Tunic ($78)) but Anthro you weren’t really considering product to consumer end cost when you picked them for spring, were you? Of course not because 5 months ago we were all spending freely. I certainly don’t begrude Anthropologie their diamond diet but let’s not pretend like they appeal to the rhinestone munchers among us. No my darlings; Anthropologie is many things but it is not inexpensive.

I usually find the best deals in their housewares – unfortunate for my closet 🙁

I was shocked at this. I go to Anthropologie for that unique piece you can't find anywhere else. I expect to pay more (although I don't like it) but it also makes the clothes less common. Not everyone is willing to spend 100+ on a article of clothing. I also would rather see them offer percentages off in the form of coupons before the cheapen the experience. Not to mention- under 100 is not frugal. If I want frugal I go to Target. I hope Anthro. is not going down the wrong road.

I totally agree! I kinda chuckled when I got this email…..silly silly Anthro. Are they trying to trick us into thinking $38 for a headband is a deal?

I laughed out loud when I saw this email. I agree, these are not frugal buys.

Talk about frugal…I purchased their Tree necklace a few months ago and was put on a wait list. The description says "Handmade in USA" and the necklace is beautiful. Well, after much anticipation I received the necklace this week and I was disappointed from the moment I opened it. The gold looks cheap and the quality is not even close to the one in the picture. Not to mention, the bag it came in said "Made in Tawain". I was so dissapointed! They are reimbursing me for the item and shipping charges, but I had really wanted the necklace.Has anyone else had this problem?? This is my first experience like this but I was wondering about others. I adore Anthropolgie, but I do not appreciate the bait and switch.~Michelle

Seriously! Im glad I wasn't the only one rolling my eyes when I got this email. Does anyone know if theres a certain day of the week they usually put items on sale? Ive been eyeing a blouse, but with my luck, itll go on sale the day after I fork over the insane cost of buying it.

Anon, Tuesday is mark-down day online. Also, I believe the period for price adjustments is two weeks. I have taken advantage of this when items I purchased went on sale a week or so later. If it is a direct order you just call in and request the adjustment.
