Anthropologie accessorizes the White House

Looks like the White House is going to be a bit more whimsical for the next four years! Michelle Obama’s style has been well-documented and apparently her design sense is top-notch as well. Ms. Obama has ordered a custom settee from Vanguard Company, the company that builds most of Anthropologie’s furniture.

An excerpt from the article in the Hickory Record:

CONOVER – Doug Jones is focused as he wraps the sturdy wood frame with fabric. He’s making a sofa for Barack and Michelle Obama. Jones has a long way to go and a short time to get there. The order came into Vanguard Furniture late Tuesday. It’s Thursday morning, and the sofa must be on its way to Washington, D.C., in just a few hours. Today, the sofa will go to the White House. “This sofa is built totally from scratch,” said Steve Gaddy, manager of Vanguard’s upholstery division. “We built the frame from the ground up. We’ll ship it right after lunch,” Gaddy said Thursday, “the fastest way possible.” The order came from Anthropologie, a high-end retail company that’s accessorizing the White House residence for the soon-to-be president and first lady. You can read the rest of the article here. The article is classic American goodness — American factory, workers taking pride in their craft and so on. (The comments are pretty great too.) I must say that while I find Anthropologie’s furniture to be expensive it’s nice to know it’s Made in the Good Ol’ US of A. I’m curious to know what other Anthro accessories will be finding a home at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

That is awesome! This article is such a great find. I love that we're going to have a first lady who is so hip and stylish.
