Reviews: Release the Hounds(tooth)

One part houndstooth, one part hoodie? Count me in! The Checkered, Please Jacket ($178) has a broad houndstooth pattern and large tortoiseshell buttons.

Be warned, this jacket is bulky. I don’t mind because come winter I’m going to want thick and warm. If you’re looking for a jacket that creates shape you’re going to want to look elsewhere. This jacket was meant to complete a look of layers, starting with a long-sleeve thermal, then a button-down shirt and cemented by a blazer, a sherpa hoodie or a thick cardigan. Throw the jacket on top and you’re hot in the city — maybe metaphorically and literally depending on the temperature.

I would have loved to bring this jacket home to show the styling options in real life. Alas my September budget is blown so dressing room shots will have to do for now. I tried on the medium and found it to be plenty roomy, so I’d say you’re safe to size down. Note that the fit is going to be boxy in any size. This coat is not soft by any means but it’s not scratchy either. It has two angled pockets.

From a practical standpoint it’s a bit silly to have heavy thickness with 3/4 sleeves. But again, since I envision this as a layering coat it doesn’t really bother me too much. This isn’t so much an everyday coat as it is an outfit component meant to showcase a specific style. A friend of mine wanted this to be her Audrey Hepburn top layer and was quite disappointed that this coat doesn’t fulfill that role.

What do you think of the Checkered, Please Jacket?

I love houndstooth and loved the jacket as soon as I saw it online..and it's really cute on you, but the sleeve length kills the deal for me.

I really like this jacket. Hope you get it if you are so inclined. I hear Anon about the 3/4 sleeves, but that's the lure of the look. And that's what looooong leather gloves are for. Yum.

So I am returning mine as well. The fit was allright but it just felt too short and I'm 5'1 and yeah it runs a big big. I got a size small (normally a size 4) and pobably could have gone with an xsmall. I love the concept and like your friend was hoping this would be my Audrey jacket but alas it's not. The material was kinda itchy to me and the placement of the pockets aren't ideal. Also the pockets of both of mine had holes in them so even if I loved it I'd still have to return it. Perhaps if it goes on sale I'll pick up but I don't think it's worth full price.

I reviewed this one today! I love it!! 3/4 sleeves and all – i just wear long sleeve tops or elbow-length gloves w/them. I hope you snag it Roxy – I plan to 🙂
