Reviews: First Day Skirt, Here & Now Tee, High Street Sweater

Heck yeah plaid. My love affair with you shall never die. Especially when tailored into a sharp-looking pencil skirt like Odille’s First Day Skirt ($98). Pencil skirts have pervaded successfully so I know it takes a little something special to make one worth your while now. In this case, a cute dog-eared placket does the trick.

As I mentioned yesterday it’s been tricky picking the correct size in Odille skirts as of late. The photos above are a size 8. It gapped in the back at the waist but strangely was pulling above my knees. I’d expect sizing up due to my hips or thighs but this is the first time my quads have presented a problem. I wonder if the security tag was causing the issue. Most likely I’d size up to a 10 to buy it.

I rather like the skirt. It’s quite chic and will pair well with most of my fall and winter wardrobe.

Another piece I really liked is Bailey 44’s Here & Now Tee ($88). I tried on the medium. It would be a winter layering staple for me over skinnies, leggings or a skirt. The cowlneck is one of my favorite shapes in the winter. You can just kind of tuck a scarf in there and you’re on your way. The stripes photographed grey but are actually a shade of tan, almost copperlike.

I do have one nitpick. The stripes don’t match at the side seams. Little Yellow Button can do it with a $48 cotton top but Bailey 44 can’t for $88? That’s a little lame. “But,” says the dissenting voice in my household, “who walks around with their arms up all the time?” Touché.

As a topper, I tried on the High Street sweater jacket called the Immutable Jacket ($88) you see above. It’s not on the website yet but I couldn’t wait to share the photos. I love the three buttons on each side and how the jacket tapers in at the waist nicely. It’s fairly warm, probably more of a layer than a topper in colder climates. The sleeves have a slight poof at the shoulders and are a bit long. The length is too my taste but some may find them a bit too long.

Hi, nice things. OT – BTW someone has been asking you about the Cosgrove dress. It is in my local store (where I tried it). One of the SA has it and she looks lovely in it. She is a very pretty, curvy girl and she had it on one day with various accessories incl the Bonheur necklace, which looked great. For me, my build is not really representative of most people but I did find it was not as ultra short in the torso as some of the dresses lately. I would say it could make a very versatile black dress, esp based on how I saw the SA wear it. I'd buy it if it is on sale (I've bought way too much lately). You can delete this comment if you want.

Sydneygirl, thanks much for sharing the Cosgrove Dress review! This is the kind of information I love seeing in the comments.

Roxy, I'm glad. I didn't want to be stepping on any toes. BTW I like the change of background color 🙂 Although the blue was really pretty, you have such good info including things like the Racked NYC article etc, but I personally found the blue made it a little bit harder to read…

I agree that Odille sizing has been all over the map. In fact, I would venture to say it started before this year. I have things that are 14 that are snug, some that are loose, a couple of 12s, you get the picture. It make is frustrating. I really have to look at the cut of the skirt and try and make an educated guess based on that. For pencils I size up, for a-lines true to size, for skirts that have a wide waistband, maybe size up, etc.

I love that skirt on you!Did you get yourSubmerged Honeycomb Cardigan (style #9101650?I just picked up the pretty Submerged Honeycomb Cardigan today. I know I have to wear a long sleeve shirt underneath to stay safe from its itch factor. I am 5' 2", so I am going to use it as a sweater dress with tights. How I wish it doens't have the itchiness. 🙁 A reviewer on Anthro's website reviews says she put in on gently cycle and got rid of the itchy/stratchy factor! How does it work, guys?

Anon, not yet! I hope the stores/online don't sell out, I have to wait for my next paycheck. The reviewer probably washed it with Woolite. I dunno though, I'm a bit iffy on trying that. The sweater's stitches are pretty loose and you could end up with a whole bunch of threads instead of a sweater. Do you have access to a basin to try hand washing it?
