Reviews: Vermillion Acres Tunic, Diffusion Vest & Double Twist Sweater

The more I look at the outfit above, the more I like it. So well put together. As Anthro outfits always are. I was curious to try on the components and was lucky enough to spot a few in-store over the weekend.

Lauren requested an IRL review of the Vermillion Acres Tunic ($68) and I am only too happy to oblige. The pattern is very cute — little pinkish-red petals dotted all over flutter-sleeve poplin. This top was very airy. It easily could have come out in the spring. I grabbed an 8 from a limited size selection for the photos above and I was swimming in it. As I always am in Edme & Esyllte. Especially from the back. Later on I grabbed a 4 and that fit much better. A couple of curious things about this top: 1 – the back is longer than the front for reasons unknown; 2 – the product shot shows the top tied in the front but I found it more natural to tie across the back. To each their own I guess.

I’m not huge on flutter sleeves. This top did nothing to sway that opinion. But I liked everything else about it: the length, the material, the loose comfy fit. For the next two seasons this will be a layering piece so I think it’s worth full price.

I didn’t waste any time testing layering options. Ladies, I need your opinion because I might have my Anthro goggles on. This is the Diffusion Vest ($98) by Sparrow. I’ve been waiting for this since I wrote my September wishlist. I was very happy with the way it looked on me. It’s a bit complicated to put on — first you tie it, then you button it. The medium seemed a bit too big so I sized down to a small for the photos. The wool was thick but not itchy feeling. Not loving that this is dry clean only.

It’s slightly tricky since the diffused pattern cuts right across my hips, aka my widest part. When I was editing the shots I was showing my guy and he doesn’t really like the sweater. He thinks it makes me look bulky. I don’t see it that way so any opinions are welcome! Sometimes I get so set on loving an item I can’t tell if looks good or not. I am much better at styling others than myself!

Another outfit component I saw in-store was the Double Twist Sweater ($98) by Sleeping on Snow. I of course felt the need to try on the red even though the black or cream would probably be more flattering on me. As with the Diffusion Vest, the extra oomph cuts right across my hips. I didn’t love it with this sweater. I think my dislike of how the red looked on me added a negative predisposition. The material was thick but not itchy (something tells me I will be using this line a lot over the coming months). The extra cabling was softer than the overall sweater. The back is pretty interesting — there’s a couple of thick cables on one side and a thin cable on the other. It’s the details that count! Overall I liked this sweater but I wasn’t dying to have it. The photos above are me in the small.

For the curious, I was trying on the J Brand Dark Vintage Heartbreaker ($178) with the sweater. Normally I can’t wear J Brand jeans due to muffin topping but I was able to get into the 31s fine in this particular style. These jeans have a 37″ inseam! For the first time in a long time a pair of jeans was too long for me. And I am totally OK with that. Hooray tall!

Hello!Thank you so much for the review:) I don't live near a store and this is so nice of you. I forgot that that brand runs bug, so this is a such a help! Esp. with shipping fees (oh when will free shipping come back?). I might have to go for it…Anthro should pay you to do this 🙂

Great reviews Roxy. J Brands are seriously my favorite jeans- they might have long inseams, but always tend to hem up well (even if I have to wack a good seven inches off to get them to fit!). Love them, love them.

Hi, Love the diffusion vest on you.Does your store carry Always A Lady Skirt, by chance? I hope they do so that you can (please) do a IRL shot and review. XS, S, L, and XL are all SOLD OUT online! WOW! Medium size, is backordered now! Anthro website doesn't explicitly state that it is an an online only item (like some Leifsdottir pieces), so there's hope that we may find slowly popping up in local stores.

I am eagerly anticipating the Always a Lady Skirt. I was told to expect it in stores sometime in the next two weeks…I can't believe how quickly it sold online! I shouldn't be surprised though.

I think you should get the diffusion vest. I have it and love it and it looks good on you. I also just bought the Autumn Sun Sweatercoat, but I think I'm going to return it. It's not flattering even though I love the colors.Do you have the Splash of Color Cardi in the NYC stores yet? Also, which NYC store do you like the best? I am from NJ and shop at the Woodcliff Lake store (which I love), but I've also been to the Soho and 5th ave stores in NY and I'm just wondeing if you have a preference of the NY stores.

Thanks for the feedback Anon. I'm sorry the Autumn Sun Sweatercoat didn't work out for you but I'm glad you like the Diffusion Vest!I have not noticed the Splash of Color Cardi in the NYC stores yet. I will keep an eye our for it. As for picking a favorite NYC store this will sound cheesy but I can't. Soho is very close to work so it's the best by convenience. It has shoes which I love and items go to sale much more quickly there. 16th/5th Ave has a really nice staff and seems to get new items first. Rockefeller has a great shoe selection and is quite large. Truth be told I'm at each at least once a week.

Roxy, thanx for the feedback on the NYC stores. I typically hit up the Soho store if I'm in Manhattan because I like to shop in Soho.~Kristin
