Reviews: Cranberry delight (Wind Rippled Tee & Smart Set Pullover)

Ric Rac has draped ruffles and chiffon in one of the most beautiful combinations this fall: the Wind-Rippled Tee ($58). I’ve had several emails asking about this top and I’m delighted that I finally found it in-store to try on. The only colors I saw at the Rockefeller Center store were black and red.

I tried it on in red, a color that is not yet available online (my guess is that it will be part of Tuesday’s rollout). The red is much closer to cranberry or wine than it is a candy apple red. Perfect for fall and winter. The ruffles were slightly smushed on the top that I tried on. Normally I’m a small in Ric Rac tops but in this top it was my true size medium that I tried on.

I felt as though this top made my chest look uneven due to the way the ruffles run across the bust. Still, I loved both the drape of the ruffles and the ruching accent below. Seeing these photos I wonder if I actually needed a large. I will try to get back to the store this week so I can try the large on for reference. This top would look amazing under a cardigan or equally as lovely by itself. I feel like $58 is a pretty fair Anthropologie price for this top.

For those wondering, there were no XS’s left in the black and one in the red when I was in the store. I did not see the grey version of this top.

Since I already had one cranberry top in hand I decided another couldn’t hurt. So I grabbed Moth’s Smart Set Pullover ($98). While the Wind-Rippled Tee was a reddish cranberry, the Smart Set Pullover fell closer to the pink side. The wool was somewhat scratchy against my skin and those with sensitive skin will want to skip this top.

I tried on the medium which fit close to my body but not tight. I didn’t feel that this top was really “me” on. The trail of ruffles over the shoulder is pretty cool but I wasn’t loving the line across the bust. I hope that Moth releases other items in this color.

One other cranberry-hued item I’m on the lookout for is the Ruffled Cowlneck Cardi ($78). Hope to spot it in stores soon!

I just bought the wind rippled tee in red yesterday. I bought a Medium and it fit well. I am sure I could have fit a Small as well, but that fit would have been very body concious. Not sure I want to have to do extra situps prior to wearing or worrying about eating LOL. I'm a 34B, so the issue with the ruffles resting correctly wasn't an issue. Great price point and fabric. It looks cute in Teal as well. If you really like it, I would definitely try on the large and judge the difference for yourself.

I like the first top. Love how long it is, may fit my growing belly (have I mentioned I hate maternity tops?). I need to check my Anthropologie, ASAP. The second top is strange, it fits you well, but the detail is kind of weird. But, the cranberry color really suits you. I wonder if they will have it anywhere in grey? Teal might be the color for me, thanks Bronzi!

I bought the wind rippled tee in teal yesterday, love it! I was afraid the blue would be too bright after reading the online reviews but I think it looks great with black and grey. Love the red too. Thanks for the reviews!

I bought the wind rippled tee in teal as well, and am debating exchanging it for a size larger (hello tummy rolls!) or just returning it. It's too long for my torso and the fussy ruffles make me look even bustier. But seeing it in that red…I may have to go return it to that store and try it on before I make my decision!

Georgine: the North Brunswick, NJ store had some in grey left. not sure what sizes since after I saw the red, well, that was all she wrote so to say. It would be a great top for an expectant Mother due to the softness of the fabric and the stretch.

I ended up with this in XL instead of L. The XL is a bit looser in the bust and the fabric is more drapey instead of clingy. The sleeves are looser, too. The L just seemed too constricting, though it would have worked. Georgine. I just got the Isadora Top and Leotard Tee and both are really long. When I showed them to my husband he said they would be great for maternity, since there is so much extra fabric to cover a bump. I plan to wear mine tucked in or with jeans, but I imagine if I were going to have another munchkin these shirts would work well for the first six/seven months or so.

Bronzi and Shannon, I love the teal color too! I'm not letting myself buy any more teal though because I already own a whole bunch of tops in that color. I went back today and tried on the large and it was too big. So I bought the medium to evaluate further at home. Outfits upcoming.Georgine I think it would make a lovely maternity top. I have no experience with them but I can't imagine it's much fun. However, being pregnant is a joy I look forward to experiencing one day. Jacquelyn thanks for sharing the shirts you found! :)rock goddess, the red is such a flattering color. I hope it works out for you!

Roxy, I added a picture of me in this over on my blog, here. I sized up so you can see there is more fabric in the sleeves and top and around the body. The L worked out alright when I first tried it on but I felt constricted. I think the M looks great on you.

I have the wind rippled tee in black XS. I usually don't like to get black tops because I have so many already, but my store only had an XS in black. I love it! I've worn mine with skinny jeans and the crossway heels. The shoes which have that vintage look seems to work well with the top.

Did you see the red wind rippled tee on sunday? I was at the rockefeller store on saturday and only saw it in teal and remember wishing to myself that they had made this in red. I'll go in Monday and exchange the teal for the red.

Jacquelyn thanks for posting IRL shots on your blog!Diem I noticed the XSs have been moving very fast in this top. Your outfits sound great!SB, I saw the red on Saturday (it was to the left if you enter via the side door across from Brasserie). I did see the red today at both Soho and 5th Ave. Hope that helps!

ooh i went to my anthro last week and didn't see the red wind rippled tee. hopefully we get it this week (my store seems to be a little behind the bigger city stores). i bought the gray and the black, but i'm glad i didn't wear either yet so i can trade one in for the red.

Thank you Bronzi, Roxy and Jacquelyn for the top advice. I hate to buy maternity clothes that I will only wear for a couple of months, but Anthropologie tops, that are long and stretchy, should work well now and after the baby is born. Jaccquelyn, I like the black short on you too – and the hats and gloves. Even though I have been to Arizona when it snows (on spring break none the less) it still surprises me that you need cold weather clothes.

LOVE the wind-rippled tee in the green. it's actually a pretty teal/turquoise. i looked all over the store for it and couldn't find it. but then when i went to the fitting room to try on something else, and some other lady had it on in black! i asked if they had anymore and to my chagrin (at first) they only had the green. glad i tried it on though– very cute! and great price point for anthro.also, i tried on the chasing rainbows henley in the solid. the detail with the rainbow stitching is pretty adorable, but i found the shirt itself long. still debating if i'm going to keep it or not.

I bought the ruffle cowlneck cardi last week, I wore it to work and received a million compliments!! It's such a fun cardi to add to your wardrobe.I am on the lookout for the rippled tee this week. I think it's so versatile for work and play. Love it!love your blog, thanks for posting!!!

Thanks for the reviews, Roxy! I swung by the Rock Center store today to check out the red/cranberry but left empty-handed. The material is different from the grey and teal, which is 95% cotton and 5% spandex. The red ones are rayon and spandex – it's body-hugging, as opposed to drapey as in the earlier version. Has anyone else noticed the differences?

Betsy, awesome! That makes me excited to find the cardi.jjc, very interesting. I was not aware of the material difference since I only tried on the red…thank you for the info! I have noticed a few other items that are different compositions by color. Not sure what that's about.

I just ordered the ruffled cowlneck cardi in black. It looks so cute online!

I bet the color red they wanted came out different in the 95% cotton version and would most certainly "fade" over washings, while the rayon/spandex combo would hold the color longer. I actually like the rayon/spandex version a bit better. I did think something was different when I tried it on vs. me feeling the fabric when I first saw it in the store a week ago. Yes, the rayon/spandex blend is as body concious as you want it to be depending on the size you get. I could easily fit the small, but it would be a veryclosefit (he he he). I preferred a little more room the medium afforded.
